You know it will be interesting to see if O2 offer any good "bolt ons" for the iphone contract.

If you look at the AT&T price plans they are MUCH better value for money.

$60pm (which is roughly eqivalent to the £35pm O2 plan) gives you 450 minutes and 200 texts plus 5000 mins of night and weekend calls!

And for $10 (£5) extra per month you can have 1500 txt messages! thats an EXTRA 1300 messages for £5!

Over here we get crap! 200 minutes and 200 txts! how is that a good deal? forget unlimited data and Wi-Fi access (AT&T offer the unlimited data obviously!) its a rubbish contract.

I have a £35pm O2 contract and I get 600 mins and unlimited texts for the same price!

Now there is no way in HELL that O2 will offer unlimited txts or even 1500 txts for £10 but if they did MAYBE some people could justify the price a bit better.

Alternatively a £10 pm tariff with maybe 100mins and 100txts would be affordable for more people who could maybe justify having the iphone as a second contract at that price.

I THINK a lot of people are going to be put off by the price of the phone and the contract.

I am feeling pretty confident that O2 will either offer better contracts before Christmas or offer good value "bolt ons" on launch day or they will NOT get nearly as much business as they think!

and this is why people unlock there phones the they want to use a kickass phone with a good carrier not a cool phone with a bad carrier

I would take the offer if O2 provide £15 pm tariff with 100mins, 100txts and limited Data plan. With this tariff, I am sure that O2 could boost iPhone sale a lot.

I know it never gonna happen, that's why I am waiting for unlocking tool.

Yes it is. Ever heard of 'total cost of ownership' before?

Yes. Please compare that to total cost of ownership for other phones though. It's a tabloid journalism trick to add in the cost of the contract too to make any premium phone look expensive. All decent phones cost a fair amount of over the length of the contract. Do you add in your broadband costs when working out if that Macbook is value for money?

I'm not denying there's a premium to owning an iPhone but since when have Apple been the cheap option? The "Dell" equivalent here (if you use a PC analogy) is the perfectly capable, on paper, N95. Go and get one of them - they are never free though if you look at the contract price too.

As for 1.1.2. I suspect, without a way to downgrade (which might/might not be possible) we're possibly a few months off a jailbreak. It's anyone's guess how long this will take but I followed the jailbreaking process quite closely for 1.1.1 and they really struggled for a solution for a while there.

Personally, I think i've got the best deal of all!

Purchased an iPhone from USA - 2 Months ago, unlocked it!

Works on my FANTASTIC Orange contract which is:

£20 a month - 1000 anytime/any network minutes - UNLIMITED TEXTS and UNLIMITED EDGE/GPRS DATA!

Can't beat that combination to be honest :D :D

What Orange contract is that? It doesn't seem to match any of their current tariffs on the website.

Yeah that's a good deal and isn't any of the standard tariffs.

Probably one of their 'high user' special tariffs they give to people who spend a lot on phone calls.. I know a guy who uses his phone so much they gave him the ultimate top tier tariff.. free phone, zero line rental! Apparently not even the telco staff can get that one...

If you use your phone a lot ring up and ask to cancel at the end of your contract - they'll throw loads of good deals at you.

He must be responsible for bringing in a large amount of other business then. I find it difficult to believe they'd make a big user fee-free otherwise.

Yeah, I've been with Orange for years, used to pay using their £75 a month contract and I threatened to leave for Vodafone and 02 - And this is the best tariff, they hit me with!

The unlimited EDGE/GPRS is awesome because I can do everything on the move! - It's awesome!
