This is exactly I have done, I have bought Nikon Z8 and Z6 III and along with lens array for Camera alone. And trying to keep my mobiles as long as they last. After that replace with the cheapest Android Mobile available. Keep the older generation low end iPhone as the main mobile.
Nice choice!
I've been using a few more android devices recently, an A10 Lite tablet for out home assistant panel, I've just jail broken our 2 Gen 1 Alexas Shows and installed linageOS to make them into voice satellites, the irony being they now run quicker and better than the ever have and I have a backend AI that isn't stupid. Android really is very decent.

Somehow, MacBook Pro at $2,500 sells but iPhone Ultra won't?

Just accept that there are a lot of wealthy individuals who can afford this. The device isn't for everyone, but there is clearly demand for foldables.
Not just that many will pay monthly

Nobody cares about a foldable that’s old tech at this point which costs $1,000 more per device and is lacking the basic Face ID feature that made the iPhone X a great device.

The real successor to the iPhone X will come out next year, in 2027, during the actual 20th anniversary of the device.
Plenty do care which is why it will get a lot of attention once it’s out

What’s wrong with a niche product if it is practical for 1.6% of smartphone users worldwide?
Nothing is wrong with a niche product.

I was responding to someone claiming that the exceptionally high price would not suppress demand.

The other thing is that niche products are not Apple's usual forte. Apple makes mass-market products with broad appeal. All of Apple's successes were the opposite of niche (iMac, iPod, iPhone, iPad, AirPods, Watch). Getting too niche is usually where Apple struggles. So while nothing is wrong with a niche product, perhaps Apple shouldn't be trying to make a niche product.

Apple can afford to try niche product segments and fail since they have tons of cash to burn. They can use experiences of VP and Foldable in their other products like MacBook or iPad in the future. They make calculated risk by not over exposing themselves (Vision Pro as an example). Google does this very often but that is also the reason they could not dominate Mobile Phones and Consumer Electronics division where people punish for doing in and out strategies as their products become unserviceable and fetch no resale value.

I have a feeling the iPhone Fold is going to be like $2500 and will require app updates to take advantage of it that developers won't do because the fold will make up 1% of the iPhone market worldwide 😕
I think this is it. The problem is not the price, but software. Awkward aspect ratio, fold/unfold workflow… that’s a ton on work for just 1% of market. This is why I think it will be a failure.

K-shaped economy. There are more billionaires now in the world than there were millionaires 30 years ago. Etc. In many aspects, price doesn’t matter anymore.
