iPhone Ultra Wows Early Testers, Except for Its Camera

ugh. The more I scroll on here the more interested I am in this damn thing 😭 I absolutely LOVE iPhone photography and I just don’t know if I could settle for this camera. I don’t make my living off of it or anything, so I’d survive for sure, and of course I’d live the shiniest of new toys, but I’m so nervous to take the plunge and end up instantly regretting the decision I have to stick with for the next year.

How impacted is portrait mode by the lack of a third lens? I’m not a professional by any means, so I have no idea. It seems like the fold will have pretty much the same camera as the base 17, most likely, which I know is still a great camera. I’ve just been a Pro Max girlie since the 12PM 😭

I imagine the fake shallow depth of field effect is created using parallax, computation, and LiDar.

So if you have two side-by-side cameras on the ultra, that would provide parallax in one direction only (up/down or left/right, depending on which way the phone is held.)

So it could be adversely affected. Dunno.

Real cameras can do real shallow depth of field without the need for compuation, parallax or LiDar. Like this shot from an 85mm Nikon lens:
