iPhone Ultra Wows Early Testers, Except for Its Camera

It’s the size of a regular phone when unfolded, you can also use a regular phone! How is this an inconvenience to you??
Can those fit in your pocket? You seem to either miss the point of this device or are willfully ignorant.
These people are ignorant man. They’re purposely pretending like they don’t know you can take pictures with it closed and it can fit in your pocket just as easily as any other phone, but then unfold to a mini tablet size only when you want to.
One other person even said that as far as foldable devices go he can purchase laptops and still end up spending less... Because people cross shop phones and laptops apparently lol!
'iPad-like app layouts' doesn't sound promising. Apple's best weapon against the sheet flexibility of Android is the gap in app parity it suffers from. An iPhone that just turns into a bigger iPhone is a wasted opportunity when it could potentially run Logic, Final Cut and Pixelmator Pro in the middle instead.
The arguement for spending so much on a Z Fold 8 is that its a phone, tablet, desktop and ultimate retro games console all rolled into one. That 4:3 internal display is perfect for some GameCube and Dreamcast emulation. You can hook a CD drive up to one rip MP3s if you so wish. To me at least thats worth the £1700. It is quite literally the only device you need to carry.
If (if) Apple just release a big/small transforming iPhone for over £2000 that can't run the Pro iPad apps you can even squeeze onto the iPad Mini I don't quite see where it sits in the device lineup. It won't be a desktop because Apple want you to buy a Mac. It apparently won't be an iPad because Apple still wants to sell those too. The ecosystem may for once be their own worst enemy.

I really wished they’d market and sell this as an iPad with cellular. It makes sense since they spit iPadOS and iOS and one having multitasking capability. If the iPhone offers actual rich and useful multitasking, what the hell was the point of splitting OS’s.

I agree. The width was the first thing about the renders/rumors of this that concerned me also.
That is a really under appreciated measurement in terms of one handed use and enjoyment of holding a phone device.

I suspect you're wrong. These people are likely the usual influencer suspects. But it doesn't matter, the phone will have to prove itself in the wild.

You guys need to realize what Apple is doing is creating a device for everyone. I want a bigger screen at times but I don’t want an iPad. I actually gave my iPad to my daughter when I finished school. Now she’s able to utilize it much more than I could in my daily routine. A folding iPhone would be perfect for me because when I need a bigger screen I’ll have it, and when I don’t, I won’t. I’ll be able to use the screen size that suits my application on the fly. It’s really that simple. I use my MacBook Pro periodically when I have to do annual training for work and meetings because it’s easier than on a phone or tablet as it involves downloading multiple files and navigating across multiple websites and watching e-learning videos etc. It’s really that simple.
I don’t know why you guys aren’t getting that Apple doesn’t want everyone to have every device. They want everyone to have the device that is best for their personal needs.

Can you please square the circle on why we don't have macOS on iPad hardware (optionally) or iPhones that can dock to monitors/peripherals and be use as full blown computers? (DEX style)
Apple absolutely wants people buying lots of devices that overlap, at least from everything I've ever seen.
I'm also not sure a $2,000+ phone is going to be a device for "everyone".
That would require the story not being completely made up. OR, I guess, he could just make up reasons why they were disappointed with the camera. But, he doesn’t have to. His job is to bring attention to Bloomberg and those words effectively do that. 🙂
In the isolated world of Apple a small/big iPhone is probably fine. But they're up aganst Samsung who have 8 years experience in this space with a device that has more utility and in all likelihood is cheaper as well. Its perfectly sensible for Apple to want to sell you an iPhone/iPad/Mac but theyre up against a device that is all of those rolled into one.
For Apple to potentially ignore the richness of the iPad app market in favour of stretching iPhone apps seems ludicrous to me. It would be like the iPad Mini only being able to run iPhone applications: nobody would buy it. An 'Ultra' iPhone cannot just be bigger. It has to do more too.

Who is going to take any useful pictures with a phone ?
Who is going to do important(tm) banking and finance on their phone?
Who is even going to buy anything or conduct financial transactions on the internet?
Who is going to want to listen to music on a phone?
Who wants to read the news with a phone ?
Who even want to have a mobile phone with them when they have a phone in the house already?
and a camera..
This is the stuff of the insane.

Perhaps, but the visibility/detectability of my fingerprints varies wildly depending on how much washing up etc I've been doing; if newer sensors can work past that, then that would be a welcome improvement.

Yea their devices do overlap in some areas and there isn’t anything wrong with that.
Get the device that best fits your needs. For some people it’s an iPhone only. Others is an iPhone and iPad, others it’s a different combination.
Lastly Apple nor I claimed the foldable iPhone is a device “for everyone”!
For crying out loud. Buy what suits your needs!
Since the inception of the App Store and different iPhone sizes has apple ever released a device that offered a terrible experience? Has any other manufacturer multiyear experience ever been enough to totally outclass apple devices and it’s experience? Are you aware of how good the experiences Apple devices deliver year after year after year? Are you aware of
How good Apple coding applications are that allows developers to program for multiple devices and screen sizes? Why do you and so many others think this year will be any different?!
This iPhone will sellout, the hardware will be great, iOS and app optimization will be great. It’s almost as if you guys live under a rock and are unaware of how well Apple does as a company.

while the dimensions seems perfect, i doubt that we have the same experience compared to an iPad Mini. I doubt that you can hold an iPhone Ultra in one hand - landscape or portrait - so its not the same usability. the ipad mini shines because of the ease of use, accessibility and robustness (and price compared to the ip ultra). i think its more an iphone mini mark 2. we will see.
What exactly is your point? Because a 16” MacBook Pro cannot fit in your pocket.
Such a general statement. No most people will not miss the camera features. You guys are unaware how many people don’t use the multi camera array on the iPhone pro. Many people simply point and shoot and don’t change lenses. I went from pro to Air and it was the best decision I’ve made when it came to iPhone purchases. Do I take photos yes. All of my photos are small group pictures of me and my family and the Air camera is more than capable for that.
