Just looked and the buyer has tons of feedback. Been an ebay member since '03 and has roughly 225 positive feedbacks in the past 12 months and no neautral or negative feedback. All comments were positive.

Based on the phone being unlocked and jailbroken, and the buyer feedback, I take back my earlier prediction. Now I don't think he's scamming you. An unlocked 3GS is fairly valuable.

Yea, echecks sound scary but they are usually on the up and up. Just don't sent the merchandise before you hear that it cleared and go to your account and make sure it's there.

Yes, do take your SIM card out of your phone before you send it to the buyer. It has all of your information on it and you didn't sell that to your buyer with the phone. Pop it in your new crappy phone and wait for 4G goodness. You are a lucky guy!

Yeah, pull your SIM. Don't even call AT&T, just pick one up off Craigslist and put your SIM in it. Done.

So buy taking the sim out of my current iphone and placing it in the cheap phone I buy from ATT (if everything works out with the sale) that will route my number to the new cheap phone? I dont even need to call ATT? Seems to easy.

I'm in an organization that takes Registrations/Orders one time per year. I have received eChecks through Paypal before. This is normal. You should have it appear as clearing in the time they indicate. Don't be alarmed by this. Just follow the suggestions that Paypal gave you. I receive the same email when someone pays this way.

Thanks for the info.

As others have suggested, take the sim out of your phone and stick it in another until the new phone comes out.

Make sure to not ship the iPhone until that $800 dollars is safely in your checking account (or, at the very least, your PayPal account with a cleared status).

Actually, if things work like they're supposed to.....
When you have placed the Sim in the new phone, power up your new phone, and wait till it shows you have service, and then log into your AT&T wireless account, you will find that AT&T has already identified your new phone that you are on.

I'd buy a junk "go" phone for the time being...we are only talking a month and half or two.

As far as the echeck deal.

"You received an eCheck payment. Like a regular paper check, an eCheck may take 3-5 days to clear. That's why you'll see the transaction status set as "Pending". Your buyer has sent the payment, but if you're shipping a physical item, we suggest you wait to send it out until the eCheck clears. We'll email you as soon as the money is in your PayPal account. We estimate the eCheck will clear between 5/18/2010-5/20/2010."

I have never seen this before but I dont use paypal very often so I dont know what to think. Any ideas?

Though the buyer made a payment and PayPal has acknowledged the payment. You may not actually have funds until the eCheck clears. And also. Depending on your feedback, Paypal may impose a funds hold. The funds may not be available until either 1) the buyer leaves a feedback, which will release funds almost immediately -OR- 2) until the 3rd day after a delivery is confirmed by delivery confirmation or tracking number.

But by all means...DO NOT SEND anything until PayPal Confirms that funds have been cleared. Once cleared. Then send it to a confirmed eBay or PayPal address. PayPal should tell you when its okay for you to send the item. Good Luck!

Well thanks, I sure hope Im a lucky guy and not just the next fool to get scammed on ebay. We shall find out soon enough I guess. I will keep you guys posted.

Also what if I was to buy a 3g iphone from att without a contract (if possible, and cheap enough)? That way I would still have an iphone just not the latest and greatest. This way I could do this again next year and just that iphone again. Im kind of addicted to my iphone as you can probably tell and dont want to not have one even if its just for a few weeks.

eChecks are perfectly normal and legit. Don't sweat. Do not send the iphone until the check clears. It is generally always acknowledged by both parties that once the money clears, the seller sends the item. Paypal and Ebay always recommends this.

You could always send the buyer a short message with a question. To see if they respond. This should verify that it's the real buyer that you're dealing with. Correspond through eBay and not your real email address.

Just mention that because he sent a echeck, you need to wait until it clears. Acknowledge that you have received his paypal transaction.

Really there is no reason to be worried, you can't be scammed in this case unless you send the phone before the money clears.

Also once the money does clear, put it in your bank account right away. Or better yet, Paypal all of the money to me, let me know if you agree to this and i'll private message you my Paypal account.

Yup, it's that simple. That's the beauty of SIM cards.

Sounds like a decent idea. Not sure it accomplishes a lot, but definately wouldn't hurt.

egad! Congrats - that's a hefty chunk of change. Kinda makes me want to list mine, although I'd get less than that for sure. ;)

Not sure what the big deal is, plenty of items sold on eBay much higher than this range. Plus when 3G first came out, $800 is a bargain.

Yes it was JB and unlocked.

So if everything works out in terms of my sale you suggest that I just go to ATT and tell them I need a crappy cheap phone to tie me over? Do I just take my sim card out of my iphone before I ship it off (after its clear that I will in fact get the money obviously) and then place it in my cheap att phone? And will I just call ATT and tell them that i need my number to be switch to the cheap phone?

if you get a new phone you are tied to a contract

buy one off CL.....

Not trying to be a jerk... really I'm not but what is the sudden outbreak of post with people asking strangers what they should do with their money? Is it really that hard to decide what you should do with your own hard earned $$ Do you really need the support of strangers on a forum to make you feel good about your decision? Do you (as well as others with such posts) go to a car forum and ask what you should get, house forum to decide where to live, job forum to ask people what you should do for a living? Prob not, so why come into a rumor forum about apple products and ask what phone you should buy and when? I just don't get it I guess. I thought part of being an adult is making decisions about your life all on your own.....,. guess others have a different idea.

Good luck with your choice. Oh and I wouldn't send a dime until money clears your account. Even if you do, I would take up close detailed pictures of every side with every number written on the phone. I would also make a short video of every thing working and post it on youtube so the buyer can actually see it working. C.Y.A. I say.

So in anticipation of the new iPhone expected to come out in June I decided to sell my current Unlocked and Jailbroken 3GS 32gb on ebay with a 7 day auction and a buy it now price of 800 dollars thinking that there was no way it would sell for 800 and by the time the auction ended we would be that much closer to the release of the new iphone.

To be clear I bought the iPhone 3GS that I am selling on ebay at the launch of the 3GS in June of last year from ATT with the 2 yr contract discount and got it replaced by apple last week due to small cracks near the dock.

That's quite the deal for $800. If your contract is ending, and you'll be eligible for the upgrade pricing, that's even better. I'd have no trouble picking up a spare 3g or regular phone and using it since you're already covered.

Also, are you sure you really unlocked it? If you got the phone a week ago, it should've come with 3.1.3 and with the new bootrom right? I know you probably used Spirit JB to jailbreak it, but how did you unlock it? I thought the new 05.12.01 bootrom can't be unlocked?

You really need to be sure that the phone is unlocked before you sell it as unlocked. The only way to know for sure is to try a T-Mo SIM in it.

Wow, that's some sale!!!! I couldn't part with my iPhone until the new release. I did keep my old phone though, so if i did sell it now, i'd just use that. Why it's a good idea to keep an old phone laying around. I wouldn't buy an new one from ATT though. You'll then have to pay full price for new iPhone. Or would you have to anyway??? hmmmm. get a cheap throw away phone on ebay to hold you over.

idk about the 3gs but i unlocked my girlfriends iPhone 3g 3.1.3 with 5.12.08.

I used fuzzy band to downgrade it to 4.26.08 and used ultra snow worked perfect

Fuzzyband works only on the earliest 3G iPhones. It is very unlikely that it will work even on a refurb 3G, and It does not work on any 3GS. Completely irrelevant to this thread.

So if I have a 3G I bought @ launch, Fuzzyband should work for me? Trying it soon.
