So if I have a 3G I bought @ launch, Fuzzyband should work for me? Trying it soon.

Should. I believe that all launch-day 3G phones had the 5.08 bootloader. I think it was only after the Fuzzyband exploit was discovered that they started producing phones with the updated bootloader. But I am not an expert on the 3G.

OP, listen to what everyone is telling you about holding the phone until the check is cleared. If he sends you an email asking you why you haven"t sent it yet (which) I doubt he will. Just tell him your phone is worth a lot of money, and you want to determine if this $800 e check is legitimate and you don't want to get scammed. If he is serious then he should be fine with it, just relax about it though.

Secondly DON'T buy an iPhone 3G from AT&T or any other iPhone. When the next Gen comes out GET THAT.
Yes, it is going to suck not being able to do everything on your phone, but it's only for a month, and you will save a lot of money.
Think about that, if you buy an iPhone 3G out of contract from AT&T (I think is $400) you lost half of your money, and when you try and sell it, you will not get that much, because now the 3GS and the new iPhone's demand will be high. By a cheap AT&T phone from craigslist, and just use that untill the new one comes out. I have done that, waiting for a new phone, its worth it, after using a razr for a month and then getting a shiny new 3GS makes you enjoy it more haha.

Lastly, the only way to really know if it is unlocked or not is to put in a t-mobile sim card and make sure it works, with all the updated baseband and bootloader stuff, you got to make sure it is unlocked. Because if it isn't and you sell him a phone that is not what you advertised, you look like the bad guy. So just make sure.

And $800?? Nice!

Also, are you sure you really unlocked it? If you got the phone a week ago, it should've come with 3.1.3 and with the new bootrom right? I know you probably used Spirit JB to jailbreak it, but how did you unlock it? I thought the new 05.12.01 bootrom can't be unlocked?

+1

You really need to be sure that the phone is unlocked before you sell it as unlocked. The only way to know for sure is to try a T-Mo SIM in it.

This is the first thought I had when I read the OP's post. I'm surprised it took to page 2 for someone to mention it!

OP, what modem firmware is on that iPhone 3GS? What did you use to unlock it?

Remember that jailbreaking does not equal unlocking. I just got a refurbed 3GS from Apple with 3.1.3 and it most definitely cannot be unlocked although I have jailbroken it with Spirit. If you accept $800 for an unlocked iPhone and the buyer receives it only to find out it's only jailbroken and not unlocked you'd have a situation on your hands.

I just don't see how he could have gotten a refurbed 3GS last week with an unlockable modem firmware on it directly from Apple. Surfer99, have you tried it with a T-Mobile SIM card to test if it's unlocked?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

It really all depends on whether the phone came with 3.1.3 installed; I agree that it is unlikely to have had 3.1.2 at this point, but it is not impossible. It all depends on how long it sat on the shelf...

Yeah, I agree. Would really like to get some clarification from the OP about it.

I'd give 2:1 odds that it had 3.1.3 installed and he just jailbroke with Spirit and installed blacksn0w, not realizing that even though it will install on a phone with the 05.12.01 baseband it won't unlock it. But maybe he'll surprise us.

Haha, I was thinking the exact same thing. Installed does not equal unlocked. That's why we're both curious if he tested it with a T-Mobile SIM.

This thread makes me happy.

I have an element case, car holder and the same phone 32gb white 3GS. Maybe I can make that much. :D

hmm seems quite scammy to me.

i would wait until the funds have cleared into your bank account before doing ANYTHING.

Not want to be pessimistic to the OP but just 2 weeks back I posted my iPhone 3GS 32 GB unlocked on eBay for 7 days auction with Buy it Now price of $750!

To my surprise, it was sold within few hours! The person who bought had an address from Georgia state.

Everything looked great but then the person sent me an email via eBay and asked me to ship to Nigeria...LOL...he met a wrong person!

Anyway, end of story! It was a scam and I finally sold it on craigslist for $625!
