Interesting move by Apple. I've have the Edge+ right now...and have had over 20 phones this year, and The Edge+/Note 5 are the best screens I've EVER! EVER! EVER! seen on smartphones before! I think anyone who owns one can agree with that.

Apple should stick with LCDs for as long as AMOLED still has horrible colour reproduction and fake number of pixels. I much prefer seeing natural colours and not oversaturated mess.
I've never seen an Apple Watch so I don't know how they look but you are saying they have horrible color reproduction and fake number of pixels? Glad I didn't buy on then.

Great way to start a discussion, calling anyone who disagrees with you stupid. Yes, you can compare - and it's best that you actually DO compare...I have both right in front of me right now and absolutely prefer IPS. As for the reasons why, the fact that you think Samsung owns this technology is enough to make me realize you aren't worth discussing with.

Not worth discussing and here you are.
Samsung is the only company that can produce the quantity and quality Apple needs and they have many, many patents regarding this technology.
If Apple would use AMOLED and you had IPS on your Samsung device (what are you even thinking about having a Samsung device, to begin with?), I'm sure you would think otherwise.
You're actually pretty obvious.

Here comes the world class stupid fanboys who think this is the best move for consumers.
AMOLED is just perfect... You can't compare to LCD right now. We're are being forced to use inferior technology because Apple doesn't want to give Samsung more money.

Look at the brain on this guy

I have used the One Plus 2, Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Galaxy S5, and every iteration of the iPhone (and yes I prefer iPhone), and have never really had a problem with the color/clarity of the iPhone. AMOLED is a great technology, but I think the IPS is fine.

Let me guess... what they are using now is cheaper so it adds to their profit margin? Am I right or am I right? I've lost all faith in Apple as an innovator at the cutting edge. They make great products, don't get me wrong, but they are perfectly happy with saving money vs adding better tech to their devices.

He recently predicted Apple would carry 3D touch onto next year's models. Of course his record looks good when he's predicting things like that.

You can't take an isolated specific example, one that seems plausible, and use it as evidence for discrediting his predictions. Kuo has proven himself to be very accurate with him claims and doesn't often rebuke when he is wrong (e.g., "Apple changed it because I released a preview of it.")

He could have easily said: "Apple is bringing force touch to it's devices", but even in the example you give to bash, he also stated that the version implemented in iPhone would be different (3D Touch vs Force Touch), which it is, but not many forum-dwellers understood at the time.

It's more than just not giving Samsung money. on AMOLED in particular, Samsung has a history of canceling and reducing orders for their customers if they decide that they want to keep more panels to themselves. HTC has been cscrewed over by this in the past, and had to change AMOLED phones over to LCD screens mid-lifecycle, simply because Samsung wouldn't suply them any more AMOLEDs.

AMOLED is going the Future of Displays but last week I went to best buy and opened a blank page on an SG S6 and on my 6. The difference was night and day. IPS still look soooooo much better!

I have no clue which technology is better but there are multiple display settings on galaxy phones. They tend to be set to an over the top ultra vivid option for store display but once you change it to a more realistic setting they can look really good these days.

The store ode also leads to crazy burn-in after a few months that no one ever talks about.

I've never seen it on a consumer's phone, so it's not a reason not to get devices with the screens, but I've seen it many times on display units since at least the S3/S4.

Apple works with their display partners to tailor make them to the characteristics they need...which costs more money to engineer and manufacture.

So before you spout this nonsense about cost cutting....how about you join us here in reality?

Never bothered with any smart watches - but I did see Galaxy S6 and it was markedly worse than 6S. I can kind of understand the desire for additional brightness, but not the dreadful oversaturated colours.
