I’ve the 13 pro max and before this I’ve never owned an iPhone for more than 2 years. Money is not the issue I’m just bored by how little iPhones have progressed. The kids and wife use the 15 and 16 pro and pm and maybe the cam is a little nicer but that’s pretty much it. Judging from the rumors iPhone 17 isn’t going to shock the world either.

These days innovations in the mobile space are coming from Android. I’ve decided that this is the year I will switch back to Android after over a decade. Will probably get the oppo find n5. With that I will also have to retire the Apple Watch Ultra and AirPods Pro. I look forward to checking out Android watches with long battery life. And even one that measures blood pressure. The Sony xm5 or the new powerbeats seem ok as well.
Moving to Android is something I've also considered over the years, but im still here on team Apple - just about. The last Android phone I owned (a second phone, not an iPhone replacement) ended up smashed as I threw it across the room it was that painful to use but it looks like its come a long way.

Literally the only thing keeping me on iPhone right now is my Mac Studio and how they can interact for messages, sharing etc. The Mac, still on Sonoma, is a pleasure to use for me. iCloud has no pull (nice to have photos, calendars and notes sync but they aren't exclusive iCloud features - Files has caused me endless problems over the years and I'm not sure I would trust Apple with my work email), the operating systems across the devices are getting less stable and full of bloat and Apples support I find either non existent or arrogant.

Years ago I wouldn't have entertained switching or even scoffed at anyone that mentioned it. Different story in 2025.

The seed is still there to switch, and it appears more often these days. Maybe when the Studio is end of life that will be time.

You've just got to do what's right for you at the end of the day.

My last android was Samsung s3 and I sold it after a week because I couldn’t get used to the keyboard. The predictive text was so bad that my productivity was affected. So the switch to Android was aborted. Hopefully it will be smoother this round.

I’ll be keeping my Macs and retiring all other Apple products and services. With the new windows risc-v laptops who knows if the Macs will remain when it’s time to upgrade? The iPhone is the glue that ties Apple products and services together. Once that’s gone the walled garden comes crumbling down. Hello world.

If apple removes advanced data protection in all places, not just the UK, then i have to rethink my 10 year upgrade strategy and switch over to some more privacy focused operating systems like GrapheneOS. That, combined with a Pixel Fold 10 sound like a great ipad and iphone replacement.
