It sucks, but what you guys don't realize is that most of Apple customers are upgrading through other caries and not using the Apple upgrade program. I don't think people using Apple upgrade program should get any kind of special preference or treatment. If you are unable to preorder one online then go to the stores and line up like everyone else.

This guy. Clearly you haven't been reading the posts. Smh.

can we have a year that doesn't demand or limit supply ? I don't need to read to even know this anymore... I just accept it will happen every time a new phone is out..

You would think Apple would learn by now how to properly manage a release.

Guess not.
Since when has Apple not had limited supply of products on initial release? I've always had to wait at least a month after release to purchase a new Apple device. It's not like I ever wanted to wait in line.

Advise to all, get out of the program asap! We got screwed plain and simple. Luckily I was quick enough to sign up for the new att next year plan where I can upgrade yearly ...

It's funny (not really) because I bought my way out of AT&T Next last year because upgrades (and AT&T in general) were such a pain. So I bought from Apple thinking it would be way better, and from the moment pre-orders started to now I'm still unable to pre-order a phone. And everyone's talking about how smooth AT&T Next was this time! Argh. So now I'm thinking about paying off my Apple contract and . . . I'm not sure.

(All the people who keep saying we shouldn't complain about waiting -- this isn't waiting, unlike everyone else we can't even order a phone right now.)

It sucks, but nowhere did it say iPhone Upgrade Program users get first choice or any kind of preferential treatment the moment new device are available.

Now if they had said that before, then I'd be upset.

Actually, as others have posted, just yesterday the Apple website was saying almost exactly that.

So this is not just about getting a new iPhone every year. It's about getting THE new iPhone on launch day every year. Is it in the iUP agreement that you are guaranteed the new iPhone at launch every year? Everyone wants the new iPhone NOW but that is clearly not possible. Start using the iPhone upgrade program in November and you could probably upgrade every year with no problem but nothing is certain.
My god, upgrading to the iphone 7 is NOT, I repeat, NOT an emergency. And, further, this is the first day of the preorder process.

Actually I have been reading. It seems as though people just want to complain without understanding the reasoning behind why Apple do things the way they do.

Cost-wise, those of us who chose the iPhone upgrade option last year at launch gets a little screwed if we want to upgrade at the launch month every year but can't. If for example we can't reserve for another two months then we end up paying a little more. Mind you its not that much overall, but still...kinda defeats the purpose of being able to upgrade every 12 months.

This is what was on the Apple website just yesterday.

10,000 points to you for being the only one to provide proof of Apple's claimed statement! That is what I was asking to see. Next time folks....do what this guy did.

So Apple screwed you all....funny, we have something in common. Time to start making a big deal out of it! I still feel it is a big first world problem....but that is irrelevant. Time for Apple to pay! They made a promise...they didn't follow through.

Too bad Tim is just going to tell you "there is an exciting solution in the pipeline so stay tuned."

So I needed up ordering the jet black(Nov shopping) and Matte black(Oct shipping). Will take the phone whichever I get first unopened and will go to Apple Store and ask them to convert to IUP. Let's see what happens. Else I return them off.

P.S. Have a feeling in store stock will be there just the pain of checking everyday

I saw what was posted. I can see how one could infer that from it if they were looking for it, but to be honest, it seems like a slight stretch

The problem is those people were not given an equal chance. In fact, they were given worse chance.

This is the truth!

I spoke with someone over the phone from the Apple Retail executive team (I think that's what it is called) about this very thing! We had a worse chance of getting an iPhone in Apple's very own program than someone not in the program! Doesn't make sense!

So what did they have to say? Apple has to have a response to this and a ton more stock to fix it or we will all be ordering online and paying off the loans and not using IUP.

It appears AT&T Next is better this year and with the new Next Every Year it's inline with iPhone upgrade program minus Apple care +, which you can buy on your own anyways if you need to have it :). I just like the idea of being able to upgrade and mail your current phone back. Apple miss this big time with in store upgrade requirement and not even setting stock aside for it. It made no damn sense!!!

I don't think anyone is complaining about the process. I think the issue here is, people under the IUP had a different stock than the "general public"(those not on IUP, or new to IUP). That's what makes it frustrating. If everyone had a shot at the same inventory bucket, cool, we are okay. Once you segment, and you limit the IUP customers. That's Where the issue is ...

Hope you guys understand that ...

This is the brilliance of Apple. No one has a clue how many were available and Apple always creates the illusion of rarity/short supply. No matter what Apple wins.
Every year someone like you says something like that and every year you are proven wrong. Apple never withholds production to creat demand.

To be honest, I don't think we should get credited. At least that part was known up front if you've ever purchased from Apple before. It's just a known fact that sometimes it could be weeks or more to get the latest product and Apple shouldn't compensate us for that time.

If the iPhone 7 had been the greatest thing since sliced bread and 10 minutes after pre-order launch the first ship date was Nov, well, that sucks but they didn't promise you would get it on Day One so they shouldn't compensate you if it takes longer to get the phone.

Everything else, including pushing us to the bottom of the list is the only issue I have a problem with.

I think if we reserve a phone within the launch month we should get credited if there's a wait. Obviously if people choose to wait and get a phone when they're more readily available then no credit.

What do you mean by implicit? When you get a financing option do you just sign or do you take time to understand the terms. Few, if any, upgrade program members would be eligible for an upgrade before September 28 because this is 12 months from when the 6s shipped (plus 3 days). Apple didn't mess this up. You did. You agreed to a contract without reading it. I would love to see all of you cry about this to Judge Judy. It would make a great show.
Or you could do the math instead of being a keyboard warrior. The 13th payment is in September. Anyone who bought the 6s in September is eligible.

Actually we are eligible 6 months from
The day we sign the contract if we pay the next 6 months up front. I noticed this months ago: if you were on IUP and ordered and recieved you 6s in September you became eligible just in time for.....anyone?....anyone?.....the iPhone SE. In fact, that's how I guessed the launch date for what became the SE.

I didn't order at 2 am. I didn't even realize I was eligible; I wasn't sure if the 12th payment was in yet.

I mean, I know if I ordered a new phone, I'd probably be getting it sometime around the beginning of October.

The part that is difficult for me was that this was supposed to be better than playing the buyback-price lottery on Gazelle or Verizon, and it was supposed to be simple.

In reality, I'll probably have several extra payments, no effectively better "resale price", and I'll have to futz around trying to arrange an appointment at a particular store around other events. That's complicated.

Just give me an allocation and a date. You can do that for shipping to other customers...why can't you just ship to the store and give me an appointment?

Same problem here. Got in at maybe 1203 am, app only listed a few models for pickup and basically now just have to check daily starting next Saturday to upgrade. Let's hope I don't get billed again before I get the chance to upgrade.

Next year too it may mean having to fork out some cash to satisfy the requirement for a yearly upgrade as you have to make 12 payments.

Exactly.
Is this too complicated for people to understand !? We are NOT asking for special treatment ... just equal opportunity to order.!!!!!
