I can confirm that the ATT iPhone 7+ I received using the iPhone Upgrade Program is model A1784 so it IS NOT compatible with Sprint or Verizon.

I had reservations for Att and VZW phones. I got GSM 17..model for Att and CDMA A1660 for verizon. I refused to take Att. VZW is unlocked, vowifi works perfect. NuberSync no problems. Activated it with Att SIM, never used VZW SIM that came with a phone.

What is your question?

The lack of CDMA radio band support on the GSM phones only matters if there is a possibility of changing carriers later on for you.

Well, I see on the link provided that there are 23 LTE bands for both the A1660 and A178* models. And they are exactly the same. What CDMA radio is missing?

edit: I see it now - it is in a different page in fine print

Wondering if the following scenario work?

Buy "unlocked" Full price Verizon phone from Apple.com using someone else's VZ acct (let's say parent's) and without using the SIM card that comes with it, just use my current t-mobile SIM and activate the phone this way?

This way, I'll have an unlocked phone that will work on my current carrier (T-Mobile) but can also work on any other carrier in case I switch?

Would it also be possible to activate phone without a SIM card? (saw a few older posts, but nothing on the iPhone7)

Yes. That is what I did. I bought a full price Verizon phone and activated it on AT&T. No issues.

However, they wouldn't sell it to me using the Upgrade Program without a postpaid Verizon account. That's why I had to buy full price.

This is exactly what I did. Reserved a Sprint MB 256gb 7+ under IUP on Apple's website. Went in the next day and paid full price. In the store, put my T-Mobile SIM card in and powered on for the first time. No problems at all. It even downloaded the carrier update from T-Mobile almost immediately.
