Why is there a $30 fee (ATT) listed on the order confirm? Why does Apple allow this? We are paying full price and financing through a bank. Nothing to do with carrier. Why am I paying an upgrade fee? I know I can try and get it waived but it really angers me. They may not waive it. Also with Apple care being available monthly now I am tempted to just buy an unlocked sim free phone and forgo the program.

I ordered two phones - one for my husband who will be trading in via AT&T and one for myself with no trade-in. My phone incurred the $30 charge and his didn't, so I'm pretty confused... I have to pay $30 for the convenience of having a paid off phone that doesn't need to be traded? I don't get it.

Verizon charges me $30 whenever I add a new device to my account—even if it’s replacing an older device.

It doesn’t cost them anything to switch my service from my old phone to my new one.

They charge the $30 just because they can. They know I’m not going to switch carriers just to save $30.

I imagine it’s something like that for AT&T.

We ordered two phones but only had one $30 charge. That's the carriers being greedy. But thanks to the apple upgrade program I don't have a contract with my carrier so I can jump ship at will. And I fully intend to.

I think now most reputable carriers are charing a fee for upgrading.
