just got mine waived for my wifes iPhone Xs.

yeah i've always gotten a fee. for my 3GS, iP4, iP5, iP6 and wifes iP5s & her iP6 (maybe even my original iPhone) we've always gotten it reversed pretty easily with chatting with them online. Last year with my X i wasn't able to. i didn't upgrade this year but my wife did last night to the Xs so i'll see if we can get it reversed again.

Interesting logic.. So just because someone is paying $1000 for the iPhone, just throw in another $30 because *they* want it ? lol..

Some people and their financial sense!

Agreed. Sometimes it's the principle of the thing, not the monetary amount.

I see that many of you are calling the carriers to get the upgrade fee reversed. Are carriers charging this fee before the phone is delivered ? I checked and there are no charges in my account

Dang. I'm on AT&T, and this is the first year I've gotten charged for it. Seems ridiculous being charged when the order has nothing to do with the carrier lol

im on att too this my first year with them sprint always charged that feee as well it makes no sense all the fees these companies charge for senseless stuff alone with the price of these phones sometimes u feel robbed. att even charge u if u chance your plan within a month if u on a unlimited plan i don't see how that would matter

I saw this, too. I didn't get charged a fee last year on the IUP with AT&T. Ugh.

Here a little slice, there a little cut
Three percent for sleeping with the window shut

There are a lot of tricks I knows
How it all increases, all them bits and pieces
It's amazing how it grows!"

Did you actually post lyrics of a Les Mis song? That's awesome. :)

I called ATT last week I believe, and I told them I was upgrading with the Apple upgrade program and that I received and e-mail stating that I would get charged a fee. They kept going on and on about how its a valid fee and there is nothing they can do. As soon as I asked for my account number so I can switch my service they said that my fee would be waived lol. Today I received my ATT bill and even though I haven't even received my new iPhone the upgrade fee was charged for $30.00, but an adjustment was made and they refunded it! so yeah, yall should try and call your wireless provider and ask them to waive it for you. :)

YEP! just got our newest at&t bill and the $30 is on there for both phones!
[doublepost=1537459066][/doublepost]What exactly are you all saying that's getting your upgrade fees cancelled? I got some non-English speaking person on the line who won't budge.

If you activate your new phone, get charged the upgrade fee, and then return the phone within 14 days for whatever reason, will the carrier remove the upgrade fee? (they should, but will they?)

So it seems that AT&T customers are the ones being charged $30 before the phone arrives

This is so wrong -- if you had paid in full a SIM free phone, they would have never charged you the fee -- these people are definitely thieves.

Yes, they will refund it but I’ve always had to bring it to their attention.

So you all are being charged this fee before you even activate the new phones? I still don't see the fees (should be 2), but we also haven't activated them yet (haven't even opened the boxes).

Guys:
Earlier in this thread I said that last year I was able to circumvent the VZW fee by removing the SIM card that came with the phone and insert a never-activated SIM.. this allowed me to activate the phone without triggering the VZW upgrade fee.

So this morning I tried the same approach on my new iPhone XS Max -- my "trick" no longer works. As soon as the phone goes into the activation, it disables the old SIM even if you didn't have it inside any phone and automatically activates the one Apple sent you. This means that most likely VZW will charge me the $30 SIM.

Next year I'll just get the SIM free version that allows SIM swap.

If i switch my X sim to xs max before turning it on will i not get charged the fee? Or should I not bother?

I did this, but I have no idea if I got charged the fee. On my at&t account page, it shows my Max, but it says that I can upgrade it. Ok.

Will we see the fee somewhere right away, or will we only see it when the next bill posts?
