Since we all got our X in November, and it looks like the next one releases in September, that's a full 2 months earlier than last years.

I assume we will have to call Citizens and made Sept and Oct payments before we can upgrade right?

Im speaking of the Apple upgrade program only.

Yes, if it releases in Sept, you will need to make payment to cover 2 more months, as long as you meet the equivalent of 12 months payment (half the cost of the device before you can upgrade). Just so you know as well you will still be billed until the new device ships which starts the new IUP.

You don't need to call Citizen so you can stop by an Apple store or do it online once you made the required payments. If you haven't made the exact payment, once you check the link it will show what you will need to pay and you can pay it directly to Apple.

Apple will announce the new products in September. Last year they announced the iPhone X in September, it didnt start shipping at a later date.

You won't have to call Citizens, you can pay the difference during the upgrade process as you're buying the new phone from Apple.

The upgrade program is a convenience, not a money saving scheme. If you can't be bothered selling your year old phone each year and don't mind throwing away a few hundy for the convenience of being lazy each year, it can be worthwhile.

A few hundred a year is an exaggeration. At most, I lose 100 a year. And it’s well worth the 100 for the convenience.

Agree. I’m not on the plan but when I did the maths, I found the loss would be small enough to make it worth not having to bother selling my old device. Even smaller if you’re a buyer who would have gone for AppleCare anyways.

The only reason I haven’t joined is that I’ve only changed iPhones because I made the wrong decisions last year and the year before. Got one with a white front without bothering to check I’d like it first - mistake. Then last year I got the Plus and have generally found it far too big and regretted not going for the X. This year I intend to go for the 5.8” and intend to keep it - have done my research and had an extensive play, so i’m sure.

I’ve heard rumors that T-Mobile is going to have a great trade in promo this year for people who have bought the X and want to upgrade. I hope it’s true. I may start doing the payments from here on out.

I’m not sure that’s right. When you pick up the phone you make the first payment , so your Sept payment will be you’re 11th payment. I confirmed on the Apple site that I will only have one payment to make with a late September delivery.

When I check my eligibility it is telling me I'm not in the Upgrade program, which I am. Checking my account I see they still have the serial number of the phone I had before I exchanged it. Is there any easy way to fix this so they have the right phone on file?

You are in the exact same situation as me. Its been 13 days now with a senior advisor and AppleCare trying to this fixed. Very frustrating.

Arghhh really?? They never updated me to current phone I have.
[doublepost=1535338529][/doublepost]I just contacted Chat- they are telling me to contact Citizens Bank. I registered and signed into Citizens, I dont see any info regarding the phone.

Seems like Apple has to update citizens about the change when it’s required. Also seems like their standard answer is contact citizen when they are unsure of what to do. Might be worth trying a few different times hoping to get someone who knows what to do.

Yeah, I checked my Capital One card and it shows - "IPHONE CITIZ*PMT 10 OF 24" on August 3rd. September will be #11 so I'd owe 1 more payment, a couple weeks early.

When you registered with Citizens One did you have to enter your loan number? I had the iPhone 7 on the IUP and when I upgraded to the X the following year, I had to manually enter the loan number once signed into Citizens One before the loan info would show up.

Absolutely. Dealing with craigslist and offerup is a nightmare. Scam after scam after scam. And people are stupid. Never again.
Ebay fees are beyond ridiculous and the various other sites have rather poor offers. I'm totally fine with the iphone upgrade program.

Yes I had to enter the loan number. But I still dont see anyplace where it mentions the actual phone serial number etc. Maybe I am missing it?

No it is not. I have sold iPhones on Craigslist/ Offerup for a while and I never had any issues or scams so far. Its a easy way to make more then what is owed on the phone, why turn it in to apple or the carrier depending on what kind of financing you have.

I've done it many times for well over a decade. It's NEVER been a good experience. Always scams, nonsense and stupid people. ALWAYS. It takes weeks just to find a legit buyer. Talking with friends/co-workers they have similar experiences.

Would I get more than half the cost of the phone i'd lose trading it back in to apple? Probably. Is it worth it to me? Nope. I have money. I don't have the time or will to deal with craigslist idiots.

With the upgrade program I can do it online. Phones are at my house the day they release. Along with a box and shipping label to send the old ones back. Transfer everything over. Put phone in box and my wife drops them with fedex in her building. Done. Apple cancels the loan. I don't have to go anywhere.

I'm familiar with the traditional iPhone preorder process, but this will be my first time using the IUP. I purchased the X in store using the IUP last year. I verified on Apple.com that I have one more payment to make which will process on 9/12 (I might to ahead and pay that one prior to 9/12 to avoid a potential issue). From what I understand, my order will be maintained while undergoing the credit check. Are there any additional steps/wrinkles in the preorder process other than selecting the IUP as my purchase option? I saw someone mention the possibility of having to enter the loan number on the current iPhone. I also saw that it's a good idea to get preapproved for the new loan a few days prior (but not too early, or you have to get preapproved again).

I didn't do any of that. Just preordered with the apple store app on my phone and that was it. Everything else was handled behind the scenes. Everything is associated with your account you are pre-ordering with so they already have it.

By the time I received the new phone and apple received and processed our return phones another payment period passed on the loan and we were charged for a 13th month. Apple later refunded us that 13th payment on each phone. Automatically.

And just to add another thing. The program includes applecare+, my daughter dropped her phone and cracked the screen. On a sunday I went on apples website to setup the repair and they had an option where they would send you the packing material and shipping label, that arrived the next morning. We shipped the phone in and paid the $29 deductible for a new screen. Not only did they replace the screen but they said in their testing the battery wasn't up to par and it wasn't charging properly so they replaced the battery and logic board as well without us asking. We never noticed any battery or charging issues. This was on a iphone 7 that was 1.5 years old.
Between the upgrade program and this repair incident i've been very impressed with apple.

It doesn’t show the iPhone serial number that I’m aware of. All I see is the last four digits of the loan number, total loan amount, balance of the loan, and the history of payments I’ve made.

I can also see the settled loan of my iPhone 7. I know which one is which because I document everything and that loan shows $0 owed.

Really I have been doing it for over 6 years now and I always sell the Phone within 2-4 days Max. Usually within 48 hours I lock up a deal and within 24 hours we meet and make the sale. I also have money and can afford to just turn it back into apple or the carrier but when look at how much extra I can make it, it just makes me go ahead and sell it on my own and pay it off instead of turning it in.
