months late to the discussion, but what the hey...

I tried the "just add a USB extender cable to the iphone cable" solution.

Looks good on paper, but it's the WRONG answer to the "I need a longer iphone cable" request above.

Why? Instead of a very diminutive cable, you now have:

1. The weight of the usb male & female connectors inline

2. The weight of the (probably) thicker cable (mine was double the diameter)

3. Compounded by 4 to 6 feet of this now thicker heavier cable

It's ungainly and sloppy - doesn't tuck away easily in any non "behind-the-desk" area. The weight plus the connectors inline can knock things around on a desk, and the inline connectors can catch on things.

The orig cable is actually quite thin and wispy - I forgot that until I connected the big-ass transatlantic usb extension cable.

I don't think it's anyone's fault that I can't find one, but for the sake of the (long dead) discussion, although a usb extender really does look good in theory, a simply "longer iphone cable" would clearly serve the need much better.

And yes, I'm too lazy/busy to make my own. :p

Definitely short

I have confirmed with the OP that the USB cable for the iPhone 4 is definitely shorter by comparing mine with my ipod mini's USB cable that came with it when I bought that back in 2005/2006. It is shorter by a magnitude of about 4-6 inches. Now I do not have a high bed but I noticed that I could not use my iPhone in bed last night without having to lean on my side, whereas I could comfortable lie down facing up with the older cable. I guess I'll stick to the older cable for nighttime chargining and use.

I couldn't agree more that they are short. However, they usually make them for docking into a laptop. However, I feel they should make a cable solution for connecting to a wall outlet better accessible and for a good price. None of this $29 crap!

Not really, although I only have the cable connected to my MacBook Pro and plugged into the dock which is 6 inches away. If you really want, you can buy a USB extender, they usually come with flash drives so you might already have one.

If l want to get on my iPhone while it is charging, l have to be sitting right next to the outlet the charger cord is plugged into. Yes, the cord is too short!!
