Phone numbers of most major carriers are verified with the actual sim, if you read Apple’s security white paper. Those using an unsupported carriers would get a notification saying a verification message will be sent to verify the number and charges may apply. T-Mobile eSIM is definitely having compatibility issue with iMessage verification.

Have a ticket open with Apple Engineers for well over a month on this issue since Apple Genius was unable to fix. They've been unable to resolve it, finally went to T-Mobile to try a physical SIM. Walked in told them the issue and they said I was like the 8th person that day to get a SIM for their iPhone. Incredibly frustrating.
Was the issue fixed ?

I was sent an email from T-Mobile US that iPhone 12 users need to update to the latest physical SIM in early 2021.
Yeah, I just googled it and discovered that you need a R15 SIM card to take full advantage of T-Mobile’s 5G network. Maybe T-Mobile can send me a free one if I call them so I don’t have to pay ten bucks at the store?

It was free for me since I essentially traded in my old SIM card for a new one.

I used to use eSIM on AT&T, but it was always a bit flaky. The most memorable bug: SMS character count always said 0/0 unless you had a physical SIM in the device as well. There is an open (and surprisingly, acknowledged) bug report with Apple. But as far as I know, it has been well over a year since I first reported it with iOS 14 and remains unfixed.

It surprised me that Apple shipped their iPhone 13 models with eSIM, given how unreliable and buggy eSIM has proven to be.
Sometimes it feels like America is a first world country, stuck in time 10 years behind every other country.

The kind of issues and problems people mention usually comprise of a new technology and an ancient technology having compatibility issues.

Apple has yet to fully fix the 5G connection while having dual sims working. My wife and I have the exact same model iPhones (iPhone 12 Pro, not the max, 512gb) and while she only has a single physical sim, I have both physical and esim. While traveling together, she had 5G ultra and Fast shown her having 250mb connection, while I only had LTE, I reset network, restarted, etc. and upon calling T-Mobile, they stated it’s an KNOWN Apple related issue and is supposed to get “fixed” via software. Yet a full fix has yet to be issued! While I did finally got 5G Ultra connection, it was literally for a few minutes and back to LTE! Under Tim Cook, Apple is slowly going to crap, as Steve wouldn’t have stood for half baked releases or claims, not that Steve was perfect, he took pride in striving for perfection.

Yeah, I had a chat with a T-Mobile rep last night and they’re shipping me an R15 SIM card for free. I should have it in 5-7 days. He recommended that I use an eSim but I mentioned the problems eSim users are having with iMessage and FaceTime.

Some iPhone users on T-Mobile's cellular service are reportedly experiencing an eSIM bug that causes iMessage and FaceTime to deactivate for their phone number, with no way to reactivate it.

Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman brought the issue to light by tweeting about his own experience with the issue. Gurman said the only solution that worked for him was getting a physical SIM card.

In a follow-up tweet, Gurman said another solution that had worked for some was to remove the eSim account from the iPhone and then set it up again. "But that's complex for most people and shouldn't need to ever be done," he added.

Gurman said the T-Mobile store representative who helped him quickly activate a physical SIM for his iPhone revealed that other customers had visited the store with the same eSIM issue after Apple had been unable to resolve it, suggesting it could be an increasingly widespread problem.

"This issue for sure has existed on iOS 15.4, iOS 15.5, and iOS 15.6 beta 1," Gurman continued in another tweet. "Potentially earlier too, but that's all I can confirm right now."

The Twitter thread has since received replies from other T-Mobile customers chiming in with similar experiences, with some reporting that Apple is aware of the issue but the company has not been able to resolve it. We'll update this post if we learn more about the eSIM issue, which appears to be limited to T-Mobile customers at this time.

Update: T-Mobile said they are working with Apple to try to resolve the issue, according to a follow-up tweet from Gurman.

Thank god someone is finally acknowledge this issue. I’ve had an open support ticket with Apple since January about this and it’s been a complete mystery to them and to T-Mobile.

Resetting the eSIM had no effect for me. Waiting on a real SIM to be delivered soon.

I don’t know why Marc thinks reactivating your esim is that hard. You grab another phone, remove the plan, call in and within 3-5 minutes the call is done and this error goes away

Apple isn’t doing this SaaS thing too well. I’m using a physical SIM card, use my transit agency’s app, instead of Apple Maps, and my car’s app instead of Apple Maps.

Apple makes a good product but it just works is so far from the truth now. How many times has Apple Music gone down without any rhyme or reason?

Any updates on if this has been resolved through either Apple, TMUS, or a combination of both? I’m successfully using T-Mo eSIM on 15.4.1 since before this story came out but haven’t upgraded to 15.5 out of an abundance of caution.

Please advise

FIXED T-Mobile with eSIM is not working.

Let's not overdo it here. I'm an early adopter of tech, so my profile or risk appetite might be slightly different than most on here. Yes, I'm on T-Mobile with an iPhone 12 and moved to an eSIM as I do a lot of business in Australia and wanted to use a physical SIM from an AU regional telephony supplier. I experienced the same thing, where texting my wife turned green. I soon realized that I needed to go back into my iMessage settings and re-check my phone number to re-enable iMessage for my phone number (my apple ID email was the only thing checked).

Additionally, suppose you are also trying to use the "dual functionality of (e)SIM variations" across multiple telephony suppliers where T-Mobile is the primary provider. In that case, you will need to have it unlocked by 1) paying off the remainder of your balance, 2) asking for a 30-day international coverage using another supplier or, 3) no issues if your phone is already unlocked.
