For my money I say Captivate on AT&T. Mine beats my iPhone4 bad.

The buzz around the Galaxy S / Captivate is building as more people buy them and realize this is the new Samsung, far better than those of the past.
Samsung has raised it's game and it shows. Both my Droid X and Samsung Captivate are outstanding. It just comes down to preferences between them.

I base my decisions on the hacking community. :D

There's not much going on for the Captivate at the moment. It is rooted though.

I'm pretty sure the EVO has the same CPU and such as the Incredible, which I've heard nothing but good things about. If you're on Sprint then I'd say EVO, if you're on Verizon, I'd say Incredible. If you're on At&t, I'd say iPhone4. :D

I really liked Sense at first, but after a taste of my rooted phone running Cyanogen Mod... I don't think I can go back! :D

I agree with you. Sense is the best skin by far. It is not even in the same keague as the Sumsung skin, Motoblur, or the crappy one on Sony Ericsson.

Nevertheless, Cyanogen Mod is totally wicked. This along with Launcher Pro made Nexus One fly.

A civil android v iphone thread. What is this?

I couldn't use an iphone. I hate the single button and I find the ui incredibly dull. It actually looks like a phone designed for a 50-something polo-neck-wearing Bob Dylan fan. :p

Android isn't without its problems but i think it's the best option available right now.

Current issues with Android in my estimation:

The UI needs an overhaul; vanilla Android is very plain and it never hurts to have a little eye-candy.

I'd agree with the posts about Sense, but I think that too could use a refresh. The dock is extremely ugly imo and it takes up too much real estate. It's also severely lacking in functionality compared to something like Launcherpro.

I'm inclined to agree with the criticisms of the Android Market too. It's a mess, frankly, and I think it needs more supervision.

Small usability tweaks needed to make it more accessible for the average consumer. While I'm not a fan of the relative simplicity of iOS, android still has the potential to confuse users and I don't think that's acceptable.

My understanding is that most of these issues will be fixed in 3.0. Both the market and the UI will be getting a full overhaul, and third party modifications like Sense are going to be less tightly integrated with the OS, meaning a more uniform look and user experience across future devices.

I have similar feelings as you, but I still think the iPhone looks really nice. I'm just bored (it happens).

As for Android I would totally agree with you, but Android 2.2 looks slick as heck! I'm using CyanogenMod so it's vanilla Froyo (haha, pun not intentional) with ADW launcher and it's very nice. :D I have my music player widgets (Pandora, DoubleTwist), Speed Dials, Pure Calendar, the Power Bar widget, Tasks widget and then my SetCPU, Snap and TitaniumBackup widgets. Most look very nice. The last three are more functional and could use some beautificaton so I keep them on my last screen. ;)

I really liked and got used to the side to side swipe on the iPhone and since it's also how you get around home screens I set ADW to do that in my app drawer as well.

As for the market... I think the problem isn't that they need more supervision, they just need better ways to FIND quality apps. I tend to use my computer to find them and then I download them (like with App Brain or something). The best feature by far is the 24 hour refund period. Apple should totally do this! I've bought many more apps on my Android phone than I did on my iPhone because I'm never worried that I'll be ripped off. I can always try it out and then "return it".

Competition is always good for consumers. I hope Google takes some tips from Apple and Apple from Google. I want Apple to really try to make my next phone an iPhone again. :D
