Google screwed up. They should have waited an extra month and packed the Nexus S with a Tegra 2 (Dual A9 + Nvidia GPU) and a hdmi port.

Instead, they went with an old processor and gpu that's about to be defunct in a month or two. That was a really stupid move on their part.

Rather than launching one of the most powerful phones of 2011, they launched one of weakest.

Also, no SD slot, no support for AT&T's network, and no HD recording. What the hell google. It's like you have zero respect for your own brand name. If a company with your market capital makes a flagship device, the least you can do is make sure it's not laughably behind spec wise.

Not that long ago cell phones didn't do anything except send and receive voice calla.

Shhush grandpa. Not that long ago, cell phones and computers didn't even exist. Things change, deal with it. How did you manage to get internet in your retirement home anyways? :p

Maybe you should go back and read post #21

Yes yes, I read post 21, your explanation that this is a dev phone that they just happened to release to the public, but it's only purpose is to show off the differences with gingerbread. And that's why they crippled it by taking out the SD card (since gingerbread doesn't need an sd card).

However, you're forgetting that gingerbread is the first andriodos to support dual core processors. The least they could do is show off this support in their flagship gingerbread dev phone.

First of all, it wasnt MY explanation. However, it is a good explanation.

If they wanted to get it out to everyone, they wouldnt be just selling it at Best Buy for over 500 bucks, or $199 if you sign a two year deal w/ TMo which is at least better than the way they sold the Nexus 1. They only sold that on their website (Googles).

In anycase, its the reason im not interested in it. It is lacking some of the things i already have in my Vibrant but, it will get the OS updates first. That is the only draw for me, and its not enough.

I love having a SD Slot in mine to expand the storage but those here bashing it for that reason (it does come w/ 16 GB internal) is funny since the iPhone has NEVER had a SD slot.

There will be other phones out soon in 2011 and Honeycomb is also on its way out in 2011.

I will still go check out the Nexus S tomorrow at BB, but I know I will probably not expect much playing around with a Captivate already. You would think that now that iPhone 4 has been out for almost 6 months, the next Nexus phone would improve on a few things that the iPhone 4 can do. Instead, it has a couple dealbreakers and even better phones are already looming in the first few months of 2011. C'mon, Google! Wake up. I know Google took cues from Apple's website ads to market more for the hipsters and gain more critical mass appeal. But you could only wish they could have just waited for the Tegra 2 phones. Even the Nexus One vs Nexus S battery life is comparable and not any real improvement. Oh well. If the Nexus 6 is ever released by 2014, I hope we get Sean Young in the ads. Much better than the one for the Nexus S(amsung/2nd). I do hope Google continues to brand more Nexus phones in the future. Each Nexus device looks nice to me so far and we get the benefit of getting the nepotism treatment.

Nvidia is going to dominate Android devices in 2011. Moreso than Qualcomm did for Android in 2010. I am very curious to see it in action. Zune HD had some excellent battery life for a touchscreen player and was pretty smooth using an older Tegra chip. Very underappreciated device. It did have OLED which helped too. Sammy just ordered a huge batch from Nvidia. Surprising since Qualcomm has always been the supplier.

Nvidia 2 + Honeycomb or Ice Cream with a minimum 4 inch screen by the end of 2011 could be my next device. The Sony Ericsson Z1 (PS phone) is out of the picture for me after seeing that benchmark test. It needs a better design, thinner, bigger screen, better GPU and Nvidia.

Why is anyone surprised that the next Google phone is underwhelming compared to top models now?

After all, this is the same group that unleashed the Nexus One, with its unacceptably bad Pentile Matrix crap-screen and horrible touch insensitivity to the public when the Motorola Droid, released months earlier, was superior in almost every regard except for the processor and the camera.

At least with WP7, Microsoft has set high standards for the hardware.

Not only that but what I don't understand is why did they take out some features Galaxy S had?

No SD card
No HD video recording
Bluetooth 2.0 instead of 3.0

Actually from what I understand, Google won't be releasing one flagship Nexus phone a year. Instead "Nexus" will become a brand meaning of "Pure Google experience" i.e. no skins, so many manufacturers are going to be releasing phones with "Nexus" in their names, much like Windows Phone 7 names... HD7, Omnia 7...

I read that HTC will be releasing Nexus Two in 2011(supposedly they are waiting for Qualcomm), with dual core CPUs, 1GB ram and high res screen.

So don't expect Nexus S to be the only Nexus for 2011.

Some of you guys just talk out your rearends. The Nexus is more of a development phone. They stopped selling N1 months ago and the only ones who can buy it are developers. Unlike Apple, Google dont mind if you root your phone and tweak it.

WHY do these manufacturers make an otherwise fantastic phone that has almost everything and then do something incredibly stoopid like not have an SD card slot? I would have hopped right out and bought the Nexus S, but 16 gig internal won't hold all my music and have anything left over. Way to shoot themselves in the foot.

i don't think anyone here realizes that the Nexus series of phones are more catered to Developers than the mainstream consumer.

Why are there barely any ads/marketing on the Nexus S, aside from the BB promotions? None of the carriers/manufacturers are marketing it.

This is more of a reference device for developers than consumers.

Exactly, and people call Nexus One a flop when there is not a single TV, radio or print ad advertising its existance.

Nothing to do with whether or not the Nexus One was a flop...it was technically a mediocre phone with an atrocious display and a bad touch-screen --both of which the Droid/Milestone destroyed months prior to the Nexus One.

At least the Nexus S should have excellent touch performance if Samsung is using the same sensors as the Galaxy S. You iPhone folks sometimes might not appreciate brilliant touch until you've used a crappy smartphone like most Androids --though most newer HTC models, Motorola, and the Galaxy S have touch figured out.
