Bruh, no one said Apple invented that or 2 lenses for a camera. Apple made it work properly and backed it up with software tools that ultimately led the industry.

Apple also didn’t invent the first smartphone, but they lead the smartphone revolution through their implantation of the hardware. Same thing with 2 lenses.
There are quite a few people here that said Apple came up with dual cameras on phones. I personally prefer LG implementation. Unfortunately I seem to be in the minority :(.

That's because other than for photos, LG phones are terrible. First of all, they run Android. They are slow, buggy, and worthless phones in general.

I owned an LG V30...piece of crap.

Not the latest versions of Android. They’ve surpassed iOS too in stability, speed, user abilit and as always in features and of course openness. That last thing Apple should do as well instead of trying to trap their customers. When choosing Apple it should be a choice not a trap.

The third-lens could simply be for "Full-Res" Depth Data Capture ! ... i.e., companion Depth Data for the RGB image sensors, for crafting Portrait Mode photos & videos.

But 2019 ??? ... WTF Apple ???

Depth is done with a dot projector, not a camera.

You make it sound like the open Android platform has no downside.

1) Security
2) Updates
3) Support

Just to name a few. Apple's strategy of a closed system clearly has its downsides, but many pay MORE for it because if its upsides.

Oh I wasn't referring to the phone itself lol. I just like their second lens implementation.

That iOS is more secure then Android doesn’t hold up anymore. It’s the same with MacOS vs Windows 10. They’re myths from the past.
Same for updates.
As for support... maybe when you live in the USA but here in the Netherlands it’s half baked. It takes months to get your device back when something is wrong with the hardware.

No, LG software is still crap on Android. They’re as bad as Samsung used to be.

Security is not a myth. Google sells your data and uses it for their purpose. Google makes Android...can't be trusted. They don't even make this a secret.

Apple at least gives the outward appearance they care about data privacy.

Updates...it's not in the past. Look at how many Android phones of total run the latest OS. Know why? Because the flagship phones from Samsung and other manufacturers don't get the latest OS. I had Android for years, up until last year. I was running a 3 year old OS because there was no update available on the Samsung Note.

Support isn't even a comparison, but I'm not in the Netherlands. Maybe it's an issue there, but it would be for Android too. Apple's support is the best in business, not sure how you can argue it. They support hardware on 4 year old phones.

To be fair iOS is becoming more complicated and more capable. (with some teething pains) On the other hand, have you looked at the Android P preview? It is as if they set out to copy iOS look (with a hint of Touchwiz). Ugh.

The ISP on the Pixel 2 is actually mediocre. It’s all software.
Mediocre in comparison to what? Other phones? Not really.

Also packed inside the Snapdragon 835 is an updated ISP. The Spectra 180 is a dual 14-bit ISP that supports up to a 32MP single camera or two 16MP cameras, which is an increasingly important feature for flagship phones. The ISP gains enhanced support for hybrid autofocus systems, which select the best AF method based on lighting conditions. It also supports dual photodiode phase-detect autofocus (2PDAF), which splits each pixel (typically a larger 1.4µm pixel) into two photodiodes: one for image capture and one for phase detection. By using every pixel for phase detection, AF performance is significantly improved, focusing up to twice as fast as PDAF in low-light conditions.

The Spectra 180 ISP also gains a fixed-function block to perform hardware accelerated zig-zag HDR (zzHDR), an HDR imaging technique that diagonally interleaves lines of pixels with long and short exposures in a zig-zag pattern. zzHDR can be used to show a live preview of the HDR image, record HDR video, or capture HDR photos without any shutter lag, but sacrifices some image resolution.

Pixel Visual Core is a dedicated piece of silicon that generally helps improved performance and efficiency in certain specific tasks. Which all makes sense as it's a dedicated chip.
The Pixel Visual Core by itself doesn't have superior features or additional features in comparison to Qualcomm's integrated Spectra 180 ISP.

That’s because a higher megapixel doesn’t necessarily mean a better camera. A Nikon D40 with 8 MP will shoot better photos than that phone.

Yes higher megapixel doesn’t mean a better camera but Huawei's 40MP is impressive hardware wise. It's like 3 times bigger that Apple's main camera sensor which makes a big deal especially for example in low light.
Unfortunately Huawei's jpeg processing style is not that great but thta's not the end of the world.

Apple didn't do anything special. When they launched iphone 7 plus Portrait mode was in beta or it didn't work.
Their actual dual lens technology didn't led the industry, their marketing did.

That's very ignorant thing to say.
I doubt you owned a V30.

Another ignorant claim. Google doesn't sell anybody's data they simply use user data to place ads. The company that buys ad space from google doesn't have access to any personal user data.
And yes the claim about security is mostly based on myths. How is your iphone more secure than my Android One phone which I bought last year in december?

What does trying to copy iOS look mean?

I chuckle at the way Macrumors turned this into an ad for the Huawei P20 Pro and all the fan-boys predicting and speculating about exactly what is already here with this model.

Well Huawei is the first company to launch something interesting regarding smartphone camera hardware in the last 2 or 3 years. Well Huawei and Samsung with their dual aperture.
What's coming next is other companies trying to match them.
