Hi all,
I just register today since I finally find people with the same problem ;)
I have an Iphone 2G with the same problem as EmNat. (camera+deep sleep)
After read everything I can on this subject, make what some people proposed without any success (except delete the file com.apple.system......but then with the battery problem), make my own test (revert firm, install old/new one, etc...), I finally found that my problem come solely from the Cam and these 2 problems are linked.
Everything come from the boot time (no matter which firm you install). I read one day on a forum that my cam issue could be fixed by reboot my iphone + press on the cam behind. I was really dubious about this method but it worked! After a reboot+press cam, I was able to take photo...The thing is I didnt imagine that the deep sleep issue I had sometime could be linked to this.
but I just finally find today that at the moment I dont respect this procedure I will suffer of the deep sleep issue! sounds like at the moment I reboot without pressing the cam, something wont be correctly installed (corrupted) and the same problem as you (without the cam issue I know) will occuring.
So my iphone works perfectly now but without Cam feature, because at the moment I will use it, I will have a chance to crash my iphone then reboot with the deep sleep issue...I know I lost a cool feature (probably hardware) but at least the rest still work perfectly! who know, maybe one day, someone will find something to solve the problem!? :)

PS: sry for mistakes, english is not my unique and first language :p

I once again made the change in my iPhone but this time I added the original file as a .bak.

Once I did that I turned my iPhone completely off and then turned it back on.

Its been a day so far no problems, if any thing new occurs I'll be sure to write again.

Damn, everything was going fine than I try to turn on my iPhone and BAM!!!
stuck once again, I restarted my iPhone and I'm now thinking in WTF, I am going to do. I am currently looking for another answer.

Does anybody know what would happen if I eliminate Hibernation in total from the plist file?

Oh yeah, my camera works fine and has worked fine since I bought the iPhone used.
So I am pretty sure it has nothing to do with my cam...

Hi fastbob,
There are quite a few iPhones out there have the problems with camera & waking up.
I tried your camera fix (reboot iphone + press on the cam behind). The camera doesn't crash anymore but the error message came up:"There is not enough room to take additional picture. Please delete some existing photos". Strangely, there is only one photo in my iPhone.

Hi Emnat,
Strangely, I never had that message? no matter the firmware I use...

Usually, I was effectively able to take one or two photo after the ''fix'', no more....then one time, the crash, then deepsleep! Pretty much the same as your message.(but gently for you :)

Finally, maybe a memory issue rather than a Cam issue? (I'm not really a professional :p)

Yeah I hear you Manny1987. I also tried keeping the original file as .bak (I mean, the iPhone doesn't read/recognize .bak extensions, so I was suspicious from the start anyways), and my phone "died" after a record 36-hours! :(

By the way, I didn't have this problem with FW 1.02; only when I switched to FW 2.0 did I notice it. My iPhone is jailbroken/unlocked, but legit iPhone users are also having this problem, so it's not WinPwn. I don't have the camera problem either, so it is not HW; I'm curious why the camera module has anything to do with power management though...?

I hope Apple somehow recognizes this problem (how do we send our complaints?) and fixes it in FW 2.02.

Also, I'm waiting from Exalted719 to re-upload the supposedly fixed .plist file (to see if the old one was posted by accident).

Good To Know

Truth-fully its good to know that there is someone out there that can relate to the exact problem I am having, I think I will also wait but for now I am going to delete the plist file completely.

24hr battery life :( but what can I do about it???

Noticed Something Interesting

I just noticed something very interesting, after erasing the iPhone power bundle plist file, it has not gotten stuck and further more it lasts a bit longer than the 24hrs previous.

Obviously if you use your iphone more than just a phone it diminishes your battery life but only for a certain amount, I used my phone to watch about 40 min of a movie, called a few people, listened to music and it lasted about 29 hrs before I decided to charge it.

So that is a possible solution, back up your plist file and send the original in the iPhone to HELL with SSH.

Hey Guys..

I recently had to do a restore, and now my problem has dissappeared!
Before when i would restore, the problem would still be there.
but it apppears this time, its gone for good...

i have no idea why...

Exalted thats good news to you..
but you need to observe it for a few hours or days.. if the problems no longer occur may where doing something wrong in restoring..
but if the problem still persist maybe our problem is the auto-dim sensor..

pls update us anytime if you think your phone works fine and tell us how you restore your iphone.. did you download new firmware .. something like that..

Gladly appreciate it..

Possible Solution Pt.2

Hey Guys,

After about a week of fighting with my phone, I may have found a solution, it is simple and didn't occur to me until I helped a friend unlock and open ssh into his phone.

Simply put I backed up the whole power management folder and replaced mine with his. So far its been about 14 hours and my iphone hasn't turned off.

I am going to keep a close eye on it, if it works I will share the whole file with you.

I will write back in a day or two with an update on my discovery. :)

Sorry for digging up this old thread.

I'd just like to report that my iPhone has been problem free since that restore.
I am now even on 2.2.

No issues whatsoever.

My iPhone is also problem free (camera + waking) since the camera crashing problem was fixed two weeks ago.
I used the fix which was mentioned in the fastbob's post. This time I applied lots of pressure on the camera's len and it worked. I think the camera had loose connection. :)

No Luck

I have tried all the fixes here, And i mean all of them.
To no avail. I have an iPhone 2G running jailbroken 2.2.1
Have just tried to replace the bundle with a known working one from a 3G iphone.
Fingers crossed, however i believe it unlikely.
I have restored 8 times and no change.
I have left it completely blank and no change.
I'm so sure it isn't the hardware though.

More than a week without crashes!

I also have the same problem, but downgraded to 2.2, as it appears to happen less frequently with this firmware (as opposed to 2.2.1 which caused lots of crashes). I thought I found the solution a few days ago, since my iPhone didn't crash for more than a week. Unfortunately it happened again. What I did was to replace the whole folder PowerManagement.bundle with the one of an iPhone that doesn't have this problem (but actually on 2.2.1). So it didn't crash for a long time (after an initial crash!?), but crashed again yesterday. I'll see if replacing the bundle helps for a second time.

Has anybody found a solution yet?
I have gone through this problem since a long time, and in other threads:

Any help would really be appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

The problem can be fixed as below:

1. OpenSSH/WinSCP into Iphone then go to:
\System\Library\SystemConfiguration\PowerManagement.bundle

2. Find the file:
com.apple.SystemPowerProfileDefaults.plist
Then rename it to:
com.apple.SystemPowerProfileDefaults.plist2

3. Reboot your phone

Thank you! This fixed my unlocked 3G iphone with 3.01 firmware. It started with the camera crashing, so I upgraded to the 3.01, then I noticed the "deep sleep" and I'd have to reboot since my phone wouldn't wake up. The method above worked for me...although my camera still crashes.

Wow. This is an old thread but not a fixed problem. I have experienced this as well. Very annoying. Sometimes it's so bad the phone will restart when it comes out of sleep mode.

Good for you

Let us know how is your battery life. When I use the workaround you mention my battery last 6/8 hours with 3.0.1 on 2G iphone with push turned off...

The battery life is definitely alot worse. Normally after I get to work I'm still 90%+ in the morning...but today I was already at 67% by 9am. Luckily, I'm able to usb charge at work, so I'd rather have this problem than the "deep sleep" where you have to reboot.

I'll keep googling...maybe someone knows how to fix this.

iPhone 2G on Firmware 3.0

Hi everybody,

I just wanted to let you all know that I haven't had any crash since upgrading to fw 3.0. (I didn't know there was already 3.0.1...). My battery seems fine too, but I'll let you know if I've got any issue.

Thanks for your help.

Problem not solved

I know this thread goes way back, but I didn't start having the problem until updating to 3.1.

I took my iPhone to a "Genius" at the Apple store who recommended doing a restore when I sync through iTunes. I followed this advice, including backing up before the restore. (I was a little irritated to find that once I reloaded all my apps, music, etc. that all the preferences and stored data for my apps was gone! I thought I could deal with that as long as it solved the wake-up problem.)

But several days later, my iPhone didn't wake up. Problem persists. And, just like the first time, when I force restart it, the battery level has dropped significantly.

I curious to know if this problem is still affecting anyone else and if you've found any cures.

Hey everyone.

sorry for keeping this old thread alive.
just wanted to report that my 3G has also been going into "deep sleep" once every few days for the past couple of months. It happened with the original apple 3.1 firmware, and it still happens with the jailbroken 3.1 fw that i have now.

I didn't try calling my number while the phone is in "deep sleep". I'll give that a try next time it happens, just to make sure i don't miss any calls.

Since a lot of you have reported poor battery life after deleting the power profile plist file, I'm not gonna do it. battery life has decreased a bit anyway since i jailbroke the thing.

I'll check back on this thread in case anyone finds a solution to this issue.

cheers!

Manny Thankks

I have just made a new account just to thank EmNat soo much for finding a solution for the off bug and i would like to say this works 100% because iv tried it on my iPhone 2g runing firmware 3.1.2. anyways thanks again EmNat iv spent endless and sleepless nights  searching all over the internet until i found the solution thanks to you.:)

Still not working, please help

I'm still having this problem on my iPhone 2G fw 3.1.3. Any other solution?
Please help if you know how to fix this.

Thanks

UPDATE: Actually renaming the file to plist2 does help, but then the battery doesn't last half a day, so it's not a working solution.

Insomnia helps

I recently installed Insomnia, which actually stopped this "coma" or "deep sleep" problem, but drains my battery a lot. It is a bit like renaming the file com.apple.SystemPowerProfileDefaults.plist, as the phone never goes to full sleep, which therefore suggests that it is a software problem, not hardware, and that it should be possible to fix.

HELP!

Thanks

I think the best way it's go to Android when iDroid project will make firmware with a battery normal work.
I wait for working iDroid.
