There is almost no situation where they should be the same unless you have your phone functioning doing something the entire time like playing radio or podcast, otherwise there should be some difference between the two figures almost all the time.

What got me going on this was the times when I would close all the apps but it still kept doing it, otherwise closing apps usually resolves it.

This is one of the reasons I think this is simply a bug with iOS reporting the wrong standby time.

Oh, no each time it has happened to me I have noticed that it was wearing down the battery. It wouldnt be the wrong standby time it would be the wrong usage time, but yeah it is using battery when it happens to me.

Ah yes, I meant usage, not standby (obvious in hindsight). I haven't noticed a ton of drain, though, I just like to regularly check it, so that's interesting.

I while back I stated here the Reddit app caused the issue for me. If that app would be open in the background, the issue would occur. So if I closed it completely (swipe up, hold, close), the problem would be solved. When I open Reddit again, the problem would come back.

So I switched to Apollo, a Reddit client which you will maybe know if you use Reddit. Since then, the problem never occurred again!

I am NOT sure if this app causes the issue for everyone who uses Reddit, bit it did for me. So my guess is that an app causes the problem.

Try it by completely closing your apps one by one when you notice the problem occurs (so the usage time increases when not using the phone). Check it after closing an app by putting your phone on stand-by and waiting a few minutes. Then do this until you find the app that is the cause.

I again ensure this works, but it did for me...

Hi everyone,

I've just noticed the same issue just like other users and I am surprised how many people have the same issue yet the weird thing is it is still not being solved properly for months.. I resetted the network settings, and hardresetted the phone. I've also deleted a couple of suspicious apps that may be working on the background however these apps had already been installed a long time before the issue I'm having...

A couple of days ago I fell asleep while I was listening an online radio so when I woke up, the phone was burning like hell due to rogue, excessive usage of the application. Then I noticed that the health of the battery decreased to 99%.. Afterwards I thought it might be a good idea to re-calibrate the battery since it had been for a long time I had not done it. Interestingly, the recalibration caused another percent to pass away from my battery's health, so it's 98% at the moment.

I noticed the simultaneous battery usage and standby after the above things. Let's see if the network resetting thing works out!

Cheers from Turkey

So I have continuosly checked if the problem exists after applying the solutions above I mentioned previously.. So far so good, I have not experienced the problem again after resetting the network settings..
