So my mom just changed her old phone into Samsung galaxy S7 today and im very curious to compare the camera with my iphone X , and i tried to take pic from both phones during day time and zoom in to see the detail and sharpness from the pic. And guess what the iphone X pics result is very bad and grainy when I zoomed in compare to galaxy s7( which is 2 years old phone ) , when i zoom in the pic on galaxy , the skin is so smooth and light as you can see in the pic below. At this point im very disappointed with iphone x camera or maybe this is just a software problem ??? I dont know , what do you guys think ? Please help... (note : all the iphone X pic is in the left and galaxy S7 in the right)

if you live near an apple store or bestbuy just compare your iphone X with the display unit and while your there compare with the new s9 and let us know.i did it and can confirm my X is even better than the s9 but i did not zoom the pics so....base your pics the x is actually better because on the s7 is oversaturated and not accurate at all your mom looks like she have hepa lol

It looks like all the X images were zoomed and were not using all the sensor.

My X images have been outstanding.

I took the picture without any zoom for both iphone x and s7 , I zoomed in after I took the pic to compare the face detail from both devices , and for me the iphone x look terrible..

I agree with this. Something is not with with the testing method ..or the phone or the testing is identical.

Was zoom used on both phones to take the pictures?

The X images have the look of the extreme end of the zoom lens. That will give you lower quality images and any cropping will exacerbate the issue.

Can you provide some more details on the testing method?

All of these images are under 1MB. This is not indicative of images out of the camera.

WTS, I have seen the watercolor/smearing effect with the iPhone 7/7+ but much less so with the 8/8+/X.

The new iPhones take stunning pictures and IMO there is no way images out if the phone (not majorly cropped & compressed) are better on an old Samsung. If you can, share some full, non-cropped images from both cameras.

With double-tap zoom (for consistent comparisons) you can literally see the sand on his eyebrows as we came from the beach.

When i took the picture, i didnt zoom
    heres what i did :
    1. I took the picture from X and s7 without any zoom (normal pic), same lighting and position
    2. I cropped both pics with same sizes as you can see in the image

Ill send the pic from both phone later today

Also, the Samsung pictures, IMO, also lack details but seem to be more of the smoothing noise
Both images look to have significant noise reduction but different methods. If this is consistent with non-cropped images I would consider taking phone to Apple. However, zoomed/cropped images out of any phone camera will look bad. Instead of cropping. Load the images on the same device (an iPad) and double-tap once to compare at similar zoom. I would not crop to compare.

Excellent image with great skin tones and sharp as a tack. My X is doing similar.

Looks like he had a "boo-boo" recently requiring stitches.

Yes. Brothers fighting over being on the shower mat on a tile floor. Resulted in ambulance being called due to the gash and all the blood I saw when I came into the bathroom. I have an image of the gash but it is pretty gnarly. He’s doing great. It was a clean & open gash.

Yep, been there before. When you see that much blood, the 911 call comes quickly. After a few years you realize these kid a tuff and can take a beating and still keep going. Great image!

Here the full image mon cropped and without any zoom :
so here the real pics from X and s7 , you try to extreme zoom in both pics and you will see the X is fail in detail and weird skin tone(grainy) compare to s7 , i dont know if it just my eyes or the camera itself

Heres the first two pictures, i cant upload it here the files is too big , so here’s the link https://drive.google.com/open?id=1sV7cH4Grk1TCwzF_zq3Je87g2wRnZ8qM

The issue is there and it looks like a lighter version of the noise reduction issue that the 7 Plus has. The 7 Plus was so bad with the skin tones of my kids I returned it.

WTS, this is a tough shot for the camera. Lots of backlight and dynamic range. It almost looks like the X tapped out on this one. I likely wouldn’t worry about it being an overall issue with the phone. The X image has better color, contrast & detail... except for the face smudging. With these backlit shots it may be worth trying some flash. YMMV as it’s a small camera/flash on a phone.

It does suck as this is a great shot at a great location and an image you would like to have. It does show we can’t fully trust our phones with these opportunities completely.

I don’t think so. Try taking some Portrait images with the light behind you.
