I’d stay away from the folio designs like Pad & Quill. In my experience they eventually leave permanent marks on the screen.

Nice Milanese loop, Juli. Sets off the dark nail polish nicely.

I never used a case until the "slippery wet fish" designs of the iPhone 6, 7, 8 and X. The only one I would ever consider is the Apple leather case. On my third. It's grippy enough to hold but slippery enough to slide into a pocket. Protection is much greater than people think. I literally (accidentally) batted an iPhone 6 to a hard tiled floor trying to catch it; not a scratch on the phone. It has a slightly raised lip to keep the glass off the ground and it adds negligible thickness all around.

I have a friend that swears she struggles with the pull down actions due to the lip being too high on the case. I’ve seen the cases with nothing in those areas but that’s not an option. Anyone find a case with protection and not such a high lip? I haven’t had an issue and the only thing we could figure is her hitchhiker thumb hits the top more easily most people. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I got the Zover leather folio case. Real leather, lovely quality though it does add a little bulk. What’s really useful about this case is that it’s really two cases in one. The iPhones X is clipped into a leather backed case that is magnetic, the leather folio is also magnetic and so hold together really firmly and always align perfectly. Means that around the house or when I want to take photos I remove the leather wallet folio for comfort. But when out and about I carry I the folio to give added protection and place to keep some cash etc. What’s also great is that the case clips onto my existing magnetic car holder, and bonus it also sticks to the fridge or other ferrous surfaces! All aspects of the case are made from high quality materials, the inner case works perfectly with Qi chargers, and the folio holds shut or open on magnets. Best case I’ve ever owned!

These are all so hideous... I've been going naked with this phone so far and I love it. It doesn't scratch and if I ever drop it, well, that's what I got Apple Care for.

I second this. I do the same thing. No case, got Apple Care Plus

I never used a third party case. Always opt for Apple cases their Fit and finish is great also love that soft texture used inside.

The Otterbox Symmetry cases are the absolute best. I haven't tried one on a X (I also wonder about the practicality of the lip with the new home gesture), but on every other iPhone I've had the past couple years they have been great. The black looks especially nice on a matte black or jet black 7 / 7 Plus. I love that they are hardshell on the outside and rubbery on the inside but still one piece. You get used to the added thickness quickly and it's easy to pop out the phone whenever you want to. I would use the Apple leather cases, but they leave the bottom exposed (except on the SE leather case). I hope Otterbox never stops making this case though.

I don’t know how you’ve been going naked. I have been using an Apple Leather case since day 1 but the screen started to scratch to hell by day 4. I have never had it in the same pocket with any other items nor have I dropped it. This is now my first iPhone with a screen protector given how bad it was already showing scratches.

Has anyone seen a drop test from one of the minimal cases? That is pretty much all I've ever used and I've dropped my phones many times over the years. Only once did the screen break a little. I was using the Spigen Thin Fit and it just caught the perfect spot for a little screen damage. Personally I think the big cases are overkill. But I'd like to see some video tests.

Every one of these cases except for one works with Qi wireless chargers, it's mentioned up at the top. It's not mentioned for every review because almost all cases work with wireless charging. There aren't many cases that cover the speaker holes -- you'll need to look at one of the more protective cases from somewhere like OtterBox or LifeProof for that. Most cases have cutouts for speaker + Lightning port.

This was actually my final case review roundup, but if I happen to do another, I'll keep Rhinoshield in mind.

Any bumper cases out there that you've tried? I'm considering bumper case plus Apple Care.

EDIT: Sorry didn't see the links to the other reviews. I assume there is a bumper or two in there; I will check that out.

Spigen wins.

Spigen always wins, at least in the long run. I'm waiting on their Thin Fit 360 style case that is actually a case, rather than some useless sliver of plastic that offers less than zero protection.
[doublepost=1511185664][/doublepost]When can we expect drop testing and ingress testing (for the water resistant cases)?

Aaron all but danced for joy with how much he likes the Rhinoshield Mod series:

I have 2 of the LP Next Cases on our iPhone X phones...had them for about 2 weeks, and like them so far - have had zero issues with the buttons. I do wish the cases were waterproof - as were the previous ones we used (on all of our other family phones). We live on a river and get our phones wet often...now we keep them (new x phones) in dry bags. If Life proof comes out with a waterproof case for the X will buy them. We've used Life proof cases for many years and on the few occasions we had issues the company was extremely accommodating.

oh **** did they changed this recently ? i’m definitely getting apple care
As far as I'm aware the AppleCare repair costs have remained the same, with the latest change being a lower pricing for screen repairs made late 2016. The reason the costs for iPhone X have made news is because the non-AppleCare repair costs are much higher than previous models.

Jony Ive and his team spend a decade crafting the perfect industrial design, shaving off every millimetre, refining every curve, polishing every surface of glass and stainless steel...

...and then you go and buy a $19.97 piece of cheap plastic and cover it all up.

I got a couple of the Trianium Duranium series cases and they seem great. I can even wirelessly charge w/o taking any part of the case off. Price was right on AMZ (~$19) and after I registered them they sent me a coupon for a free dual-port wall 39W quick charger. Seems like a great deal.

That's because we don't want to scratch the decade of crafting of the perfect industrial design, the millimeters that have been shaved off, the refined curves, and all the polished surfaces of glass and steal.

So, you never get to enjoy it. Do you wrap your new car in bubble wrap?
