Jony Ive and his team spend a decade crafting the perfect industrial design, shaving off every millimetre, refining every curve, polishing every surface of glass and stainless steel...

...and then you go and buy a $19.97 piece of cheap plastic and cover it all up.

True. But they also designed an iPhone without any shock absorbing plastic. So it makes sense to use a case and pretty much everyone I know does so. And it especially makes sense for a phone as expensive as the iPhone X. I bought a cheap case before I even have gotten my iPhone X. This way it will go right into the case when I get the phone delivered. Since this design is less slippery than 6 and 6S, I may take it out of its case in its second year. But as soon as Apple Care expires, if I'm still using the phone, it will go back in a case.

Juli, you've done an incredible amount of work evaluating these cases and its very much appreciated.

I've been ready to buy the X but holding off because I'm not sold on any case so far. I've been using the Defender for my iPhones since my 4, but I see the new ones for the X no longer include the display shield. Do any of the cases include a shield? Or will I need to get a separate protector? If so, that seems to be a way for dirt to get to the phone because no protector can match an integrated shield.

Also, I didn't see any mention of which cases include belt clips. I can't carry my phone in my pocket, and I've always used a belt clip.

Finally, so many cases with gimmicks like magnets, lanyards, credit card compartments- I'm surprised that no one has come out with a case that has an integrated camera cover. Perhaps a little sliding door, or hinged flap. All the protection in the world for the phone body means nothing if that dual lens camera takes a hit.

Definitely a big fan of the OtterBox range of cases. I had the OtterBox Strada Case for my iPhone 7 and went for a change with my iPhone X and purchased the OtterBox Symmetry. It's nice and light, simple and so protective. Dropped a few times and still no damage "touch wood". Have purchased both my cases from www.tekitin.com . Very happy with everything and heaps to choose from. So my pick - OtterBox Symmetry!

Has anyone experienced odd iPhone X screen activity with their Spigen cases? I've had apps open on their own, weird screen activity when I close apps, etc. Not all of the time, just sometimes. I wonder if my Spigen case builds up some sort of static. I took the case of and so far so good.

Guys, I have to update you on my iPhone X "Lifeproof" case.

The rubber cover over the ringer switch has torn almost completely off. The right side of the rubber face bezel is coming apart in shreds. The plastic cover over the phone display has developed an air gap that causes an audible slapping noise every time I use the keyboard. I'm going to contact Amazon about getting a replacement, but I'm confident that the new one will be more of the same. The one bright spot, as I mentioned earlier, is the Encased belt holster/easel stand. It is grippy, solid, and holds the phone very positively.

The Lifeproof is a terrible case, and also one of the most expensive, I can't recommend it.
