I really like the Tech21 cases, they’re not too bulky but protect well. They generally have a gel layer around the edge.

The Nomad rugged is really bulky. I received mine today and it’s so thick that I can’t toggle the silence switch without a lot of effort to squeeze my finger past the case. Fortunately I can return it and order my old standby with the Apple leather case.

Any of the case makers rolled out a case that is:
  • shockproof
  • with additional battery AND
  • a 3.5mm headphone jack...
yet? That's THE one I most want to buy.

Mophie usually covers shockproof + battery. Big fan of UNU cases but, so far, they haven't shown anything for the 8 or X.

I suspect SOMEBODY is going to put a headphone jack in at least some models. I'd love to see the combo of all 3 together in one good case.

I like spigen cases & have used those on my previous phones.

This is the first time I'm using an apple silicon case & I actually like that as well. (Was concerned about the open bottom, but it's not that bad, just had to get used to it)

These are the 2 options I'll chose going forward.

Were you able to wirelessly charge the phone with cards in the twelve south relaxed leather case?

Yes. But Apple does not recommend using wireless charging with cards that have a magnetic strip because it can impact the functionality of the cards. Apple says remove them before wirelessly charging. This is an issue with cases that have rear-facing card slots like the RelaxedLeather. I haven't tested this enough to know how badly it's going to affect cards.

I’m a big case person. I have tired almost every brand, caudabe, speck, Spigen, case mate, incipeo, elago, Tozo, incase, Tech 21. I always go back to the Apple silicone case. As stated, it fits extremely well has a great feel and is very protective while adding minimal bulk. Highly recommend.

Love the Caudabe sheath. I had it for the 7 plus. Now have it on my x. They were running a 35 percent off sale which brought cost down to under 20 dollars. This one seems nicer than the sheath I had for the 7 plus. Minimal bulk is added with this case. I use this in combination with a Zagg glass + screen protector.

For those who uses the Apple silicone case, does lint and dirt stick to it?

Yes it does. That’s the reason I’ve always gone back to the Apple leather cases... they definitely have less grip then the silicone but way less lint and way easier to slide into pockets... and hold up better long term in my opinion.

Any chance you guys can do a battery case set of reviews? I think I need more juice for this bad boy

I second. Although I think with Qi charging, most of the major players will focus on wireless solutions. Mophie - just to name one - doesn't seem to have committed in making a good old fashioned battery case for the X.

I can look into it, but so far I haven't seen many battery cases for iPhone X.

I’m using the Saddle Brown Apple Leather case. More money than a $20 Amazon case (which are great cases), but it’s well worth it IMO.

- Leather feels great in your hand
- Saddle Brown ages beautifully
- Perfect Fit
- Doesn’t add muchbulk but should be adequate for most drops

Highly recommended!

Curious if you (or anyone else) feel like the Apple silicone case for the X is grippy again? The iPhone 6 version seemed nice and grippy (and was the best case I’ve ever used), but when I bought a new one for my 6S, it was noticeably slicker and I actually ended up returning it.... The X case seemed more grippy again when I tried it on display at an Apple Store, but it’s hard to get a good feel for it mounted like it is.....

I would appreciate if you include Spigen in your next review. That’s what I use for my 7 plus, and I’d like to hear your thought on their iPhone X cases.

You beat me to it. I just took delivery today from Amazon of a new Spigen for my iPhone X

3 years ago, when I bought my iPhone 6Plus, I bought a Spigen.
That case has not only kept my phone in perfect condition but has remained in perfect condition itself which is more than I can say for any other iPhone case I've owned (disintegrated within a year, all of them)

The case I got today looks superb and I expect it to work and last as well as my last one.

I’m another Spigen fan. Used them for the 6 Plus, 6S Plus, 7 Plus and now X. The Thin Fit case is fantastic. Gives minimalist coverage and good protection. Keeps the camera bump from being one. And for the X, it works just fine for wireless charging.

I'm surprised that the wireless charging capabilities were not factored in the reviews. Do any of these allow wireless charging while in the case? Thanks!
Yes it does, I used Nomad rugged case.

I got Apple silicone case 2 years ago with my 6s+ really like it but it collected dusts on the surface can’t stand it. Very dusty feel no matter what.

Great review, thank you. Been bummed that it seems Speck has basically abandoned their Candyshell cases (been using them since the 4) - nothing for the 8 or X (nor the 7 I believe) and am now off looking elsewhere for my future needs.

I'm pretty sure the Candyshell cases have just been rebranded as Presidio. They're literally the exact same thing as the Candyshells were.

Yeah, I've loved the Sheath for my last phone and now the X. You're right, the one for the X seems nicer than the one for 7 Plus. I think it's partly the added texture and maybe that carbon fiber look. It's a really nice case. I'm still in the honeymoon phase with their new Lucid Clear case, which I also love. Although since it doesn't seem as durable as the Sheath, I'll probably go back to the Sheath eventually.

I actually just returned my black Apple Silicone Case because I felt that it made my X feel less grippy than not having a case at all. I had the Product(RED) Silicone for my iPhone 7 Plus and it certainly had a more tactile feel to it. Not sure if something has changed.

I'd definitely call the iPhone X Silicone case grippy. It's one of the grippiest cases I have on hand right now, and I've got a lot sitting around my office. I do, however, have an iPhone 6s Silicone case here too, and it is not quite as grippy as that case was. That one is so grippy it's almost sticky.

Happy to oblige. I got in touch with Spigen and have some cases heading my way. They'll be in one of my later roundups, but I'll definitely be including them.

Will be going with the Apple Leather, not keen on screen protectors, how are people dealing without? Is the screen scratching easily? I see Apple offer in store Belkin screen applicators, any good? Cheers for any thoughts...
