The reception on my Verizon iPhone X is noticeable weaker than my iPhone 6s Plus and far, far weaker than the Note 8 I had for awhile. It's fine in most cases though but struggles deep inside big buildings without a window nearby.

Pretty sad to see that the reception has degraded in the X model. I understand if previous models had excellent call quality, that losing 1 bar on average is not a big deal, but it appears the quality of calls is also being effected to some, as their voice goes out occasionally, or faint as some have mentioned, with lower bars.
Considering this is Apple's current flagship phone, and that the phone didn't shrink in size (it got bigger), I can only see this as them cheaping out on overall quality design. Big mishap, and in my personal opinion, goes in the book of reasons to potentially stop buying apple products in the future, alongside throttling and a few others things.

I have bought an iphone x (model 1901) here in brazil and i´m also facing the signal issues. doing some tests i noticed that the issues are when are always when the connect with the band 7. is it possible to force the phone to use the 28 band?
Is reception on the iphone X still poor, or was there an update that fixed it?
I'm asking because I'm thinking of switching to AT&T and getting it. If it's still poor I guess I'll just stick to my 7+ with T-mobile that sucks inside buildings!

Did you not read the 5 pages of comments here? Plenty of people have said the iPhone X is worse than their previous phones for signal strength, so obviously it's not "never poor" as you claim. Yes location and towers matter, but so does the phone itself.
I just texted my nephew. On Sprint with his X he said he has some issues indoors (restaurants, gyms, stores).
I really don't want to switch everything over from T-Mo to AT&T to get the X just to get the same frustrating experience indoors as I currently have with T-Mo.
I wouldn't mind trying an S9, but we're a little invested in the Apple ecosystem.

just so u know not every ipx is a dud.

But your phone worked right ? You could make calls ? Listen to music ? Send texts ? Use it as a PHONE? Yeah. My Snapdragon S8+ worked just fine.

I have AT&T and still experiencing signal issues I did not have with previous iPhone models. It doesn't seem like it's a carrier issue. Well, those are my thoughts.

I am on ATT and use a sim free X.
I do notice it indicates about one bar less than my 7+ or 8+ but I do not think I have had a single dropped call.

i switched back and forth between the Intel and the Qualcomm version all same issue. I believe there is something wrong with the antenna design of this $1000 phone!!!

I have one or more bars less than I had previously (with my 6S Plus) but, like you, no dropped calls. With me it's the signal loss that prevents me from making/receiving calls. Not sure if what I said makes sense though.
I switched from the intel 7+ on AT&T to an unlocked X from bestbuy to test the intel vs Qualcomm thing in a low signal area. I work in the fringe area or a few local towers and my intel 7+ would constantly be dropping 1 or 2 bar 4g calls unless I parked in a spot where the signal was better. With the unlocked X I’m consistently in 1 or 2 bars of LTE service and except for a few spots, I can now drive around and not lose the call. At all. As for the data speed, well, it’s pretty similar. Inside my house I’ve got 1 bar less than the intel 7+ would’ve gotten.
My unofficial test results were enough for me to be satisfied with the switch.

This seems to be a recurring issue everywhere.. even people with replacement phones are having the same problem. (Apple discussion threads) could it be a software bug? Has Apple said anything about a potential issue?
A software update cannot resolve the hardware issue. It is the intel chip that is causing all these trouble, when you switch to A1865 all problems will be gone, period.
I had same reception issue with A1901 and GPS accuracy.
problem in AT&T and T-mobile iPhones is that they use Intel modems which are garbage
The really bad news is that All iphones will have intel modems this year according to the rumors since Qualcomm and Apple are in a lawsuit and Apple wants to teach Qualcomm a lesson
If the rumors true I hope that Intel has solved the speed problem with the new modem

I'm on AT&T and yes the iPhone X signal strength is weaker, in the same locations, as my previous model.
I have the Sprint version and the reception is weaker than my previous iPhone 7+. Not enough to make me not use it but it is noticeable. Also noticed weaker Wifi performance as well.

I have these exact same problems with my phone and it has the A1865. I have never wanted to smash a phone so badly in my whole life. It is soooooooo frustrating to have a $1500 paperweight.
I have 1 bar in most places I had 3 bars with my Galaxy S8. Even the iPhone 5s I used for a few days had 2-3. I never had either drop to 3G, but my X has twice now (I’ve only had it for a few days). I know bars aren’t exactly an accurate way of measuring signal strength.

I’ve speed tested my data, and I am getting the speed I’m supposed to, but my service is capped at 3mbps, so that’s not a very reliable test.

When we were in the apple store yesterday I noticed I only had 4G and not LTE. That had never happened in the past. I wanted to place an order via my phone using discover rewards (for the 5% cash back bonus) and I had to go outside to get signal to process the order! I though it was just at$t having issues but maybe it's the phones!?
It's no doubt these phones. Apple is getting hammered right now with complaints! I wouldn't be shocked if there wasn't a recall
