i bought the 29w charger with usb-c to lightning cable but it is charging very very slow. Slower than even the regular charger. About 100 minutes from zero to 50. Is there a setting I have to enable? Or is my charger defective?

I think fast charge Just isn’t that impressive on 8/8+/X like it is on high capacity battery iPads

Marginal improvements over using regular iPad charger

I thought apple was suppose to update fast charging capability...

Genuine Apple parts?

I heard the same thing, that Apple has to enable fast charging in the next iOS update. I guess it's time to go check Google.
[doublepost=1510127591][/doublepost]So, Apple Insider has this: http://appleinsider.com/articles/17...ing-speeds-with-fast-charge-wireless-and-more

Fast charging is enabled for wired charging, but not wireless, which comes later, but it charges the fastest only for the first 30 minutes with the 29 watt USB-C charger, probably to protect the battery from heat. using a higher wattage charger makes no difference. And it's only a little faster than the current 12W iPad charger with the standard USB lightning cable.

Still, 52% charge in 30 minutes is what they say to expect, and the next 48% takes another 1 hour to get full.

Wireless charging is currently just as slow as the included 5W adapter, both charging at a consistent rate of about 10 percent every 15 minutes. In total, it took 2.5 hours to achieve a full charge on both 5W and wireless methods. This should come as no surprise, as iPhone 8 only accepts 5 watts of power when charging wirelessly. Apple plans to boost wireless charging speeds with a future software update, bringing power transfer rates up to 7.5W, the peak output of Belkin and Mophie chargers sold in the company's stores.

So, Apple insider got to 52% in 30 minutes with a 29w cube, and 9to5Mac similarly got a little over 50% charge from 0 to 50% in just 30 minutes. Your phone is definitely charging slower than it should at 50% in 100 minutes. Not sure if it's the cube or the phone. But fast charge should not need a settings change.

Do you have a 12w cube to test your iPhone X charging rate and see if gets to 50% in 45 minutes, as noted by 9to5mac? Then we'd know it isn't the phone.

As for the wireless I mentioned above, which doesn't have fast charge turned on yet, I'm also charging slower than expected for Qi. I got the Samsung fast-charge Qi charging pad this afternoon, and tried it tonight with my iPhone X. I started at 70% charge. It climbed to 80% in the first half hour, and to 94% at the end of 1 hour, and hit 100% after 1hr 23min. According to Appleinsider that 30% should have only taken 45 minutes.

I'm going to test the 12 watt cube tomorrow, now that my phone is already at 100% I can't test it tonight. I ordered a 3rd party 30W USB-C PD cube and an apple USB-C to lightning cable to test fast charge this weekend.

Did you just get your phone and are running a restore of a huge icloud backup with Apple Music while charging? Then it's clear but otherwise there is somethiong wrong.
My X needs 30 min for ~50% and 1 hour for 80% using the Apple 29W USB-C + Apple USB-C/lightning cable.

I tried to charge my iPhone X with the 87W charger for my MacBook Pro 15" as is supposed to be beneficial according to Apples support document. But as other people here, I noticed no dramatic charging speed difference. Took 50 minutes from 56% to go to 100%.

I use the 29W adapter for my iPad Pro and it chargers very fast

Was hoping to enjoy the same with iPhone X. Sad it will not be that big of a deal.

I have a question regarding wireless charging.

If we use a Samsung Fast wireless charger and and Samsung Fast charger, will the iPhone X charger faster wirelessly compared to regular wireless chargers?

Wireless charging sucks on my X. I can't have the screen on with brightness over 50%, or it will slowly discharge instead of charging. This is with a fast wireless charger and a 2.4A adapter. I'm hoping it's something Apple can improve through software.

Mine is charging very slow no matter what charger I use. 0-90 in over 3 hours even with both 12w and 29w. I'm thinking maybe I have a defective device.

You're making sure you're using an official MFI certified lightning wire right? Cause I know a few people that were using cheap knockoff wires bought at a gas station and their phones would take forever to charge with those.
If yes then I'd get it checked out at the Apple store.

All my wires were purchased from the Apple store.

when apple enable fast wireless charging.

So I’m getting scientific

Smaller Shorter top offs, seem to make no significant difference compared to iPad charger.

I’m at 0% and set my timer for an hour.

29w and 2m USB-c to lightning,

Will report back how much it tops off.

Maybe for something like this, it will make a good difference.

49% at 30 min, 79% at 1 hr

Right on the mark with the advertised speeds.

What is it like with an iPAd charger? i can try that down the road

Edit- improvements from that graph don’t seem THAT substantial but there 29w vs 12w
