The notch is there for a reason. Apple put all the sensors necessary into that space. They could've put it into a wider section taking up the whole width of the phone, thus creating some sort of top bezel. What they did was reduce it to the absolute minimum necessary space, and then *used the space to the sides for useful stuff, like the time, battery, cell signal etc.*

If Apple had simply added a bezel, all those other things would have had to move down and reduce the amount of space available for content on the main part of the screen. Also, people would've just b*tched about that bezel anyway.

Lets‘s just say, from an engeneering point of view it is bad design. As worse as it can get bad. An from marketing perspective it is the best design.
How is it the best design from a marketing point of view? Just because it’s different doesn’t mean people will gravitate towards it.

The hand model holding the phone needs to trim his nails.
The person whose nails you criticise is probably Chinese, in which case, it is common to have long fingernails, and for hundreds of years until today, some people (men and women) will allow one fingernail to become very long - and clean. It shows status of being above manual labour. Since when did you become the global nail length standard authority?

Is it really?! That's an assumption and opinion only.
It very much is objectively so. Does the notch improve user esperience? No it doesn‘t in the contrary UX and development is much worse.

So what do you gain from the notch? One thing: It makes the X recognizable. People love it cause everyone in the subway will easily see and know you can afford a 1k+ phone.

So again from design and engeneering perspective it makes zero sense. From marketing perspective it’s a genius move.

Wheter it looks nice is indeed subjective but an engeneer will not even care cause with the notch in the screen it’s like arguing which pile of **** smells better.

Why is everyone so obsessed with the notch? I've never seen it as a flaw... It's a nice design element, intended or not.
What certainly can't claim that argument is a protruding cam in the back. Phone can't even lie flat on the table.

Anyway... price of a knock of has absolutely nothing to say about cost of the original whatsoever. Chinese could build a 1:1 iPhone X copy for 50 bucks... except it would be extremely low quality.

That doesn't change the fact that the X is ridiculousely overpriced...

Strange. Others following Apple designs and implementation with ‘Face Access’? Amazing how Apple is ridiculed for the Notch and others follow later.
I didn't like the notch at first, but after thinking about it, it's not a bad idea, at least when in portrait mode, it makes sense to have it, so you can put the signal strength, battery level, etc in that area. However, when you go landscape mode, is where I have always thought it would be a little bit weird. I have not touched an X yet, but it would have been cool if apple designed the "Ears" to just show that info, rotating that info when the phone went in landscape mode and keeping that info in the Ears.

I was elected to the position just last year.

Your opinion does not factually make it a design flaw. Again, I don’t know your profession, but I can tell you that from an “engineering perspective” it makes perfect sense as a pragmatic solution to the problem of fitting an array of sensors and cameras into a device that was intended to have as much screen area as possible. The engineers did their job in finding a practical way of accomplishing that—a way you simply don’t think looks very pretty. Notwithstanding your subjective opinion, it takes nothing away from the user experience with the phone.

And your obsession with it makes me think you don’t actually use the device. You simply don’t notice it after a short time.

It causes a whole lot of issues, especially the way apple implemented it and wants to "embrace" the notch. like it cutting into the view when watching videos - either that or you sacrifice large part of screen real estate. This is just one example but that alone probably was enough for various departments to say no please don't. But marketing is strongest in apple these days.

What do you gain from the notch, besides being different and recognisable? Name me one thing please.
