The iPhone X seems like a F-up to me, the whole new 8/X range should have had the same full screen design with just a feature set difference.

The 8 should have been an upgraded 7 in the new form factor, and the X should have had all the new goodies like Wireless charging, Face ID etc only.

But where would Touch ID go on the iPhone 8 if that didn't get Face ID?

Hopefully it looks closer to black. I had hoped Apple was done with the ugly Space Gray after the 7 and was going back to black.

I think the silver X looks very classy and given the fact both phones have black fronts, they look virtually the same from the front (especially when they are in a case).

As for the 8 - I'll need to see them in the flesh but they look a bit 'cheap' to me - the 'gloss' look. It is almost like Apple have gone back to 2014 colors.

IMHO space grey does not look as nice as Jet black or matt black on the 7/7Plus. I guess the glass gives a kind of jet black look. Don't get me wrong, I like space grey (I have a space grey MBP) but for a phone, hmm - going backwards...
It isn't the same. Just because the name is the same doesn't mean the color is.

What color are you guys getting? I'm going with the white and black since we haven't seen that since the 3GS.
The 5c had a black front panel with a white shell too

Think keeping these to two simple classic options is fitting for a phone celebrating the anniversary of the line and breathing new life into it at the same time.

Dear Apple,

I’ve been buying exclusively Apple products for the last 16 years. So many MacBooks, iPhones, Apple Watches, iPads, Apple TVs... I was on the fence about getting the iPhone X. It’s gorgeous... but way out of reach price wise... $1300+ CAD for a phone is insane.
Then buy an 8, or a reasonably priced 7. Nobody is guaranteed an affordable top of the line flagship phone.

Though I won't be buying it due to the price!

No touch ID = No buy. Goodluck with the junky face ID.

You trust your finger, with an error rating of 1 in 50,000 and that can be used when asleep, versus your face with eye contact, which only you control and has an error rating of 1 in a million...?

Ok.

I think the thing that shocked me the most, was I was really expecting Blush Gold to be a color. And now that they're only two iPhone colors, that's going to make a lot more limited at launch for two choices only. I think having multiple colors at least spreads it out more where others have options.

And if your opinion were correct, I'm sure Apple would've adopted this easier solution.

I had my mind set on the supposedly “Black” clones, but after looking at silver or space grey, I’m thinking of silver as it remind me of my old pal 4S.

Although, I’m conflicted over saving 200$ and getting 8+ than spending it and getting X.

Anyone think if sales dip we might get something bundled in later? Maybe Music sub, AirPods or even apple care would do?
Was thinking the same thing about the black phone. Silver is looking pretty sleek, pulling from that nostalgia of the 4.
As for something bundled together, I’d like to say yes but I doubt it. They don’t need to, the phone is already going to be the highest selling ever. Don’t need to give anything away for free if they don’t have to. Just hope the shipping times for the X aren’t crazy, especially since I’m on the Apple upgrade program.

For the life of me... I never understood Apple's reason for removing the original black color. The first few iPhones were only available in black. This is one of the most popular classic color. I don't understand the hype in "Space Grey" at all....

Anybody provide an opinion on this?

My guess is there were some late-in-the-game changes to help with iPhone X production. Dropping the gold color was one. Pushing back the launch date was another.

The tell is the iOS 11 GM. If Apple planned all along to release the iPhone X a month and a half from now, they would have left the hw-files out of the release. Put the software specific code in 11.0.1 which usually comes out a month or so after launch.

Ok.

That 1 in a million happened live on stage. Not a good first impression at all.

And what I feel everyone is concerned about the face ID compared to Touch ID is that you no longer have to make physical contact with the phone to unlock it. So folks are worried that it's even easier than grabbing your hand or finger when asleep opposed to grabbing your phone point it at you and run off with it. My niece and nephew do that to me all the time. Just grab my phone when I'm using it out my hand and run away with it.

Didn’t happen on stage. Just like a phone with TouchID, you have to use the Passcode first, and then Touch ID on subsequent unlocks. Exact same thing happened here, nothing new.

Your niece and nephew do that all the time? Jeez, mine would be lucky to leave my presence alive trying that on my iPhone just once! Well okay, I exaggerate, but I'd be having a word or two with them and their parents.

Now random muggers would be a concern. But the face ID honestly didn't look that fast and easy to me. The mugger would have to hold the phone up and still a moment and meanwhile I sure as hell wouldn't be holding still. I'd probably disable Face ID using that triple tap trick that was reported here at least while I know I'll be out on foot out in the open for awhile.

not sure i like this color... would have prefered a deep black. guess i'm gonna go for the white one.

Those FINGERPRINTS

Silver for me.

(...if I so happen to actually get one for the 1548 EUR it costs with AppleCare and 256GB )

The new shade of gold for the 8 is gorgeous. Imagine that with this phone.
Yup. No reason it won't come mid-cycle, a good way to bump demand when it traditionally tails off.

And a shout out lol to those who thought this year's gold would be the Zune brown.
