So today is my first day with the iPhone X. 256 GB space grey. I'm coming from an iPhone 6 Plus.

Yes, there are things I like, but this thread is specifically about complaints/things that people don't like about the iPhone X. I realize I've only had it for a brief time, and time will tell on these things, but so far, here are my issues with the iPhone X:

    • The notch. Hate it. It's ugly, it's in the way, and I wish it was gone. Like a wart.
    • Big, vertical camera bump. It's in the way more now that it's vertical. For instance, one handed holding, and sliding a finger from the back over to the sleep button. My finger moves over the bump (never used to). Right over one of the camera lenses... bad design. I understand they may have reasons for it (internal component design mandated it that way)... but it affects usability for me materially.
    • OLED display. Good and bad. The bad is that the viewing angles suck in comparison to Retina LCD: the blue tint reveals itself pretty quickly. I can live with this, but I don't like it. I also find that while the screen looks good, it really doesn't seem any sharper than the Retina LCD.
    • Tall, narrow design/screen. Not sure about this yet. Time will have to pass to see whether I like it or not. For instance, landscape blows. On the Web it cuts off each side to deal with the notch. Looks bad. Second, the keys on the keyboard are thinner and stretched out compared to the 6 Plus. I like the fatter keys on the 6 Plus. Also, the usable screen area is still something I'm trying to figure out, but seems less than my 6 Plus.
    • Rounded Screen corners. This is jarring in some respects. Content struggles to make sense in areas with such rounded corners. So scrolling lists, for example, isn't clean looking: some content is cut off until it's above the curve.
All of this above I knew going into the X. I will be using it and seeing how everything sets in. Yes, I know, I can return it in 14 days. So if I don't like it, I will return it.

Please post things you don't like/complaints and comments.

For me its all the unused space at the bottom of the keyboard when typing in messages....unless I am missing something I can turn off?

So what it sounds like @booksbooks is you don't want an iPhone X. Perhaps get a iPhone 8 series because they offer the same specifications in a package that is missing the features you don't like.

I don't like that my X is sitting at home, while I am still in my office.

Apple put it there so it would be more comfortable typing. It would be way to low if all the way at the bottom.

So you always love absolutely everything in every product you buy from Apple, or is it that you're not allowed to dislike anything? What if @booksbooks doesn't like iPhone 8's bezels? What should he/she buy then?

Some tend to find more wrong with a product versus appreciate everything it has to offer. Attitude and perception are everything when it comes to truly enjoy something you want. But I also not everything is perfect either.

It's incredible that any kind of criticism of Apple or its products on this site results in so many people posting the same old, "Nothing's perfect". "Take it back". "You obviously are a troll".

Really simple: this is a forum and this is a valid topic for discussion. Because I dislike things about the X doesn't mean I hate the entire device or that I don't like anything about it. As I stated in my original post, I said I do like things about it.

And this also isn't just about being a consumer. It's about assessing the decisions a company makes about design, features, etc.

As I keep using the X, it's coming off weird: it's like a sliced up Plus in its implementation.

I’d like to be able to pick what’s on my lock screen(flashlight, camera are on there now).

I’m not a fan of swiping diagonally just to see battery percentage.

Thanks for the heads up. This is a deal breaker for me as my phone sits on my desk all day and I don't pick it up while I use it.

So this is a normal thing? I was thinking it was strange that the screen was so much warmer when looking straight on vs at a slight angle.

I don't like the fact that my X is available for pickup on release day, and I'm away at work. Won't get my hands on it until Wednesday..

Good review, with some well qualified complaints. Thx.

But aren’t you constantly swiping up/down/across at the very bottom of the screen? I keep wondering/asking about this. If typing is uncomfortable I imagine this would be doubly so.

Yeah, do a Google search for Pixel 2 XL screen problems. I guess this is an OLED problem. I don’t really mind as the OLED in general looks great.

I was really put off by that extra space at the bottom of the keyboard. I don’t mind the notch at all, in fact I think it gives the phone a distinctive character. But the empty space at the bottom of the keyboard looks so amateurish. Hate to bring up this cliche, but Steve would not have wanted this. There’s no way.

Yeah. I think I saw in the keynote that they did extensive testing to make sure that desks couldn’t fool the system. But I guess it depends on how much you resemble your desk.

I think this has a lot to do with the faceID setup. Plus over time, I think it’ll get better.

Mine didn’t unlock at an angle then I redid faceID and it seemed to work better.

I don't like that my X, which was reserved at 3:11 am (Eastern) last Friday morning, is scheduled to be delivered within the same time frame that Apple is currently estimating they will ship orders placed today.

I’m playing with my wife’s X now and I will say, the notch isn’t as obnoxious as I expected it to be.

Notch isn’t a big deal to me. I kinda dig it.

My only complaint is I wish it was a tiny bit bigger, but I’m okay with the size. I’m coming from an iPhone 7+ and I never cared for the plus features. (Except tabs)

I’m planning on just getting either a dock or one of those qi charging stands for this exact reason.
