lots of articles today saying Apple could for the first time make an iPhone end of life within a year

https://www.investors.com/news/tech...x-end-of-life-predicted-production-cuts-seen/

Lots of other sources too including some previously accurate sources. What do you think? I would be surprised if it came through

EDIT - Adding More Sources, because a lot of posters say its from non reputable sources:

Weak demand, yes.

Lower price, no.

The idea is to EOL iPhone X and replace it with a newer 5.8” OLED iPhone while keeping the $999 price. Apple doesn’t want to drop the price of the X by $100 and dilute the premium positioning.

No validity whatsoever in ending production in the summer. Also, "Wall Street" analysts can say anything they want and make any predictions they want, but it doesn't mean that it's true. The price point might be reflective of why the demand is not as strong, but that doesn't mean it will cease production.

It's still selling? I thought Apple gave up on iPhones completely. You know, because a few people on this forum didn't like the new one and also I read that Apple is doomed on the Internet.

How many more record-breaking quarters does Apple need for people to stop believing these click-bait, doomsday scenario articles?

This.

Current analyst estimates have Apple selling a “disappointing” 35 MILLION iPhone X’s.

That would produce “only” $43 BILLION dollars in revenue in a single quarter.

As a point of reference, Coca Cola does $43 BILLION in revenue in a whole year. Same for Volvo. What a failure the iPhone X must be.

Back in 2011, analysts thought Windows Phone would overtake Android by as early as 2013. Not exactly the same thing as iPhone X projections, but it just goes to show, sometimes analysts look at limited, short-term information and make big speculations. Then again, it's possible that iPhone X will be phased-out sooner than normal to be replaced with a similar device that is more refined (no notch) and cheaper and easier to manufacture.

35 Million iPhone X's sold already? I doubt that.

I predict 10-15 million sold. Let's see who is right in two weeks.

I also predict Apple won't stop producing them.

Most of these analysts aren’t throwing ideas out of nowhere.

TSMC reported yesterday they’re expecting lower shipments of upmarket smartphones this year. They’re not specific as to what brands, but analysts with supply chain info can put two and two together.

I hope they dont artificially castrate the battery on their plus size phones in 2018

Did not read.

Stopping production of X, sure, 'cause they will be making the XI.

But seriously, 8/8+ probably will be the devices that become the previous year's model at a discount vs. offering the X. And then above happens.

BS!

First time?! Unh-unh.

If that's what's being claimed then whomever it is doesn't know jack!

Apple introduced the iPhone 5 in September 2012 and DISCONTINUED IT in September 2013 when they launched the iPhone 5s.

First time?! Really? No. Not the first time.

Please!

The Apple iPhoneX was a BIG jump in both how it worked and what it cost, many people just said maybe this time i should keep my older phone or buy something besides this new iPhoneX.

If the sales are really falling off i am sure Apple will take some type of action.

Of course not. But I expect an iPhone X Plus or something along those lines that is priced higher than the current X. Maybe this year or next year.

I disagree. I think the X is what Apple said it is- their most advanced, most premium iPhone. It's a segment unto itself. No different than the 12" MacBook.

So I see Apple carrying on the 5-6-7-8 series with a new 9 and 9+ and eventually a 9S and 9S+ while they do nothing to the X at all except perhaps a subtle processor boost.

The earliest I see any change to the X, including the addition of a Plus sized version, would be September 2020.
