Anyone noticed increased battery drain with the latest FB app update (150.0)?

I’m at 3hrs of usage and 12 hours of standby and I’m at 63%.

Low power mode is on, brightness is turned all the way down. (With zoom activated).

Cellular Off, WiFi on Bluetooth off.

Normal browsing in safari, Facebook in background.

I’m getting around 5-6 hrs of usage total before it hits 18% of battery life left.

Does this seem normal? If I remember right when I got this X on the 3rd it used to last around 9-10 hrs?

No usage changes.

Also, WiFi maintains full bars don’t know why it showed low signal when I took the screen cap.

Thanks

facebook has always been a battery hog. you have cellular and wifi off?

Cellular off, WiFi on, Bluetooth off, low power mode on.

Brightness turned all the way down, True Tone off and auto brightness off.

Facebook running in background

Facebook usage sits at 50% in battery app ever since the latest update 4 days ago.

Phone usage went from 9-10 hrs of usage to 5-6 hrs before it hits 18%.

how's facebook running when cellular and wifi are off? what's it connected to? turn off background refresh.

WiFi is on, all others are off.

Background refresh is disabled with low power mode enabled.

No worries
[doublepost=1511393552][/doublepost]1hr later battery is sitting at 47%, Facebook still running in background (app switcher) not being used.

usage still siting at 50% background.

Tap on Facebook to see the actual on screen and background usage times for it.

You can always close it from the app switcher to make sure it's not running in the background.

It was reported on these pages that Facebook is one of the apps you must force quit because it continues to run in the app switcher. I think it was noted in the article where Apple talks specifically about not needing to force quit apps, but I’m not sure.

Facebook has always been a battery pig, and will only get worse as zuckerberg continues his quest to try and take over the world. It’s a horrible app.

It also helps to go into settings and turn off autoplay in video and photos. That way they don't play automatically when you are scrolling

Yes, I can

I’m just putting it out there to maybe see if others were having the same draining issues. Maybe there is a underlying bug with the latest FB app update causing it and it could be fixed.

Similar to the YouTube app bug, that’s still not fixed yet? So YT is deleted.

Already disabled, I’m probably one of the most conservative iPhone X users out there lol.

Every battery “draining” feature is turned off.

Bluetooth is off, cellular is off, True Tone off, tap to wake off, hello Siri off, low power mode is always on, lowest screen brightness.

Background refresh disabled, push notifications disabled.

I even go as far as to putting a pure black screen wallpaper on and enabling zoom so brightness can be pulled down even further than default slider allows.

I still can only maintain a 5-6 total usage with the latest version of Facebook open in the background.

So my 100 to 18% overall usage has been basically cut in half. From 9-10 hrs to 5-6 hrs.

So something has to up with the base app, something that they did on the latest update is killing this battery on this X.

This is not a complaint post, I’m just trying to see if it’s just my phone or others are having the same or similar issues as me.

That’s why the swipe up to force close apps is so important and Apple screwed this up on the iPhone X. Why tap and hold? Fail.

Facebook app is the hell of a battery hog no matter on what device.

It's still a swipe up, just takes a short hold before (most likely to avoid accidental inadvertent closing of the first app as one goes into the app switcher).

If you look at my screen cap of battery usage in the OP Facebook still tops everything and it’s running in the background at 50%.

Combined I use safari and Instagram more and they still don’t equal up to the battery usage the FB app is consuming while only running in the background with very little on screen usage.

As far as charging goes (if y’all are wondering).

I’m using approved fast charging.

Apple USB C to lightning cable

Apple USB C 61W MacBook charger

I understand the rationale of it. Tap and hold is not good because the holding time is uncertain and you need specific visual clue ie the (-) icon to know that the close app mode is enabled, unlike the old model where you always know you could do it.
[doublepost=1511399030][/doublepost]Stop the Facebook addiction and you’ll find the world to be so beautiful and quiet. Battery life on your phone is just a bonus. I used a year to quit posting on Facebook. Another year to stop reading it frequently. You can too.

its only checked about 1-2 times every hour, mainly for business purposes.

98.9% of the time its siting unused in the background in the app switcher.

Yes, I know I can close it out, but that's not my point lol.

Something is causing the latest version of the app to drain substantial amount of battery in the background while unused.

The first version for the X did not drain battery in the background like this latest version does.

Tap on Facebook or any other app (or the clock icon) on the battery usage page.

I can say it's not the first time for Facebook. All the background usage must be doing something. Location/voice Tracking? Marketing study? Data mining? You'll never know. (Just think about all the Facebook users with an Android phone...with more permissions than they ever needed) So I make sure that the Facebook app is closed after use every time.

(I'm so fed up with Facebook. In the US, it displayed biased election ads and articles as you may know, and in my city, it also selectively displayed only one side of the political spectrum and turned many people radical.)

Both Facebook and YouTube are causing major battery drain for my wife’s iPhone 7 and my old iPhone 7 on iOS 11.x. I don’t think this is specific to iPhone X, but iOS 11 in general.

Google acknowledged YouTube battery draining on iOS11/iPhone X and says they are working on a fix.

So right now, YT app is deleted and i'm using safari based YouTube.

As far as FB draining on the latest version, it seems as i'm the only one that have encountered it.

That was the purpose of this thread to gather info and see if others are having the same problems as well.

I understand the FB app is a battery hog across the board, iOS and Android but it shouldn't be this bad.

Especially when mostly only running in the background.
