Weird indeed. It seems like all/most of the usage is then from on screen usage. Do you use Facebook that much?

Nope, it gets checked 1-2 every 1-2 hrs for notifications. it seems as something is making iOS 11, think that its all SOT when in the main battery menu its says "background activity" and total @ 50%.

98.9% of the time its sitting unused in the background in the app switcher.

i had commented on various other threads about battery issues coming from an 8+. Ever since i deleted the app and used it via safari, my battery has been night and day. It's shocking really. My battery is way better and I never worry about it as i did for the first two weeks.

I understand the rationale of it. Tap and hold is not good because the holding time is uncertain and you need specific visual clue ie the (-) icon to know that the close app mode is enabled, unlike the old model where you always know you could do it.
[doublepost=1511399030][/doublepost]Stop the Facebook addiction and you’ll find the world to be so beautiful and quiet. Battery life on your phone is just a bonus. I used a year to quit posting on Facebook. Another year to stop reading it frequently. You can too.

We're not here to discuss moral reasons to stop using Facebook. We're discussing battery impact. Ever think that a lot of people utilize Facebook for their small businesses? Social media is a hell of a tool for small business owners.

Facebook must have the worst programmers on the planet. It's apps are always buggy and always drain the battery. Use a browser.

Maybe it's because Facebook is using your mic in the background and transcribing everything you say, to later advertise to you?

Always check the Privacy permissions in Settings and see if any app is granted more permissions than they needed.

For me, Location services for Facebook = "Never".

I use the Facebook app quite a lot and get about 10 usage on my 8+. I don’t think it’s as bad as people say imo.

Very interesting, I can only get 5-6 hours on my X with the latest facebook app update.

I used to (when I first got, the X on the 3rd) could easily get 9-10 hours from 100 to 18%.. after the latest app update total usage went down the toilet and cut in half.

100 to 18% in about 5-6 hours now this is, with facebook running in the background 98% of the time and only checking it 1-2 every 1-2 hours.

I’m on the latest version too. Maybe it’s something else that’s draining it. I never usually swipe it out of memory either, only if I remember to.

Facebook app is a battery hog. Period. Use Safari. Save it to the phone desktop...looks just like the app, but no battery hog.

It's been happening to me the past few Facebook versions. I noticed a it few weeks ago with one of their updates when my 7+ battery took a hit. The background activity showed MORE time than the usage. Location services has always been off. I believe that Facebook is taking advantage of some loopholes in iOS that allow apps to run in the background without needing explicit permission (i.e. Music). They acknowledge an issue a year or so ago when it's background usage hit mainstream tech sites. IIRC, they were using the background video processing to get around it.

I just make sure I close it now immediately after using.
