Can anyone confirm that with the Apple 29W charger & Apple USB-C to Lightning cable that their iPhone X makes the battery charging "Dong" sound twice?

I only charged my phone a couple of times with this setup and did not think that double dong sound was right.

Nope I tried with my fast charger and 12w charger. They make the same noise when connected.

I don’t know how much the iPad charger w/ cable costs but you can pick up 2 lightning cables capable of fast charging for $10 and a ugreen 29w adapter with pd for $16. Total = $26 for a fast charging setup. Forget apple’s rip off $75 setup for fast charging.

Sorry but you are wrong. You can't get fast charge with a third party USB-C to Lightning cable. You need an official Apple product because Apple has not licensed any other manufacturers yet.

That’s fine whatever you think but I tested it and I get 51% charge from 0% in 30 mins. Good enough for me, that’s what Apple is claiming with their set up, correct?

Very suspicious.
I just clicked on your link to the Amazon site for that cable, you can see the review posted by Travel Dork with photo evidence, he claims the voltmeter showing the Apple cable charging at 14W while the VIPFAN cable only charging at 8W.

Yeah I did see that on there. Not sure how it’s suspicious. I’ll have to get a meter and test it. I have an Apple cable coming next week. Well have to see. Like I said as far as I am concerned I saw this 50% in 30 mins with my own eyes, believe what you want. I’m sure the Apple cable will do the exact same. I’ll test it.

The metrans cable has a few safety specs that they state on the amazon page. I tested this cable and the quality is surprisingly good. As far as the charging speeds, it actually matches the Apple cable at 50% battery in 30 mins! I did my test from 0% using the ugreen 29w adapter that I posted above. My phone didn’t melt or blow up, also didn’t get too warm, just normal charging temps. I would say this might be one of the first cables comparable to the genuine Apple usb c to lightning cable. Looking to get an Apple cable to compare them. I’d say if your interested, pick up a metrans cable and let me know what you think and how it compares.

I’ll have to take your word for it, it’s not available on Amazon UK and Amazon US don’t ship it to the UK either.
Pity, I’d have liked to have run it through it’s paces.

Same setup here. Gives me the double charging sounds .I’ve been wondering about this also. Figured second was for fast charge activated.

Ok the results are in! I just thought I should l update this thread. I received the genuine Apple usb c to lightning cable and used the same ugreen 29w brick to do my tests.

As stated before I drained my iPhone X all the way till it died in both tests and set a timer for 30 mins and pulled it off the charger. Both the metrans cable and the genuine Apple cable both charged to 50% battery in 30 mins. As far as which one to get, you can get the Apple cable for about $17 on eBay, sometimes bit less. The metrans cable runs about $13-$15. With that said you Midas well go for the Apple cable since Apple suggests it and it’s only a couple bucks more. However I almost feel like the metrans cable is better quality then the standard Apple cable.

Finally glad to have a 3rd party usb c to lightning cable that is capable of fast charge and also claims to have quite a few safety features in place. Can’t go wrong with either.

same for 61w, not that this is a surprise. i was just wondering if this is is for other usb-chargers also.

First of all, don’t worry about damage, they’re designed to be fast charged.
As for speed the best bang for buck is probably the 12w for most people.

You’ll get a 10-20 minute speed advantage with the 29w adapter but if you don’t already have one, is it really worth the extra expense? And that’s from someone with the 5W, 12W, 29W and 87W adapters.

Honestly I’m just using wireless all of the time now (7.5W.) I charge my phone overnight when I’m sleeping and it gets plonked onto another wireless charger when I’m at my desk if the battery is needing a top-up.

But if you often find yourself in need of a faster charge, go with the 12W if you have it.
If you have the money burning a hole in your pocket, get the 29W. It’s a decent bit faster, especially going from 0-50%.
The 12W iPAD charger has a USB A right? and will work with the lightning cable in the iPhone X box ?

I bought myself a 29w power supply and a USB-C to lightening cable just because I was curious and my X is capable. Mind you I have wireless chargers fast and standard coming out of my ears - work, Home (everywhere) and even my iotti car holder fast charges wirelessly in two cars. But hey, another toy to play with, so I bought a setup.

Nothing earth shattering. I basically take it with me while traveling. That’s the only use. I would say it charges like a genuine Apple cable and power supply. Maybe it shaves a little time off? If you want to check it out, get a setup off amazon and save a few bucks.

Yeah i’m now convinced that i dont need fast charging here’s why i used iPhone 5s for last 3 years which has short battery then after getting iPhone X i instantly went to beta which drains a lot of battery but now on iOS 11.3 beta 6 in left with 35 to 25 percent battery

I’m using betas too from the get go and the X has the best performing battery life of any iPhone I have owned. I never need to charge this thing it seems.

I Just purchased my iPhone X and was wondering what kind of experiences people have had with the USB C 29 watt charger vs the standard 5 watt and the Ipad 12 Watt chargers time wise, I am not really in a hurry to charge the phone but once in a while, I am more concerned that it may damage the battery longterm. Let me know what experiences you have had with both the 12W and the 25 W, I know from reading the 5 is a crawl as is the wireless even at 7.5. Just how much of a charge you get in say 60 min and then after 90 min

Thanks

Ipad Pro
Ipad Mini

The 29W charger with a usb-c to lightning cable will definitely be faster, but probably not worth it for most people. The 12W one or an 18W one like this guy: https://www.amazon.com/ZMI-Charging-Adapter-Foldable-Prong-Motorola/dp/B06XRLQHSY will work fine for everyday use.

Also, check out this article for more info on fast charging the iPhone X: https://www.zmiusa.com/blogs/blog/fast-charging-the-iphone-x-8-and-8-plus-1

Question.. I just got an iPhone X and I have a fast charging wireless pad but it just came with the pad and the cable but not the brick.. Will the fast wireless charging not work right with just the standard iPhone brick? I'm kind of confused.

On another note, it would be nice if the phone let you know when it was indeed fast charging.

It kind of does. The phone "chimes" or vibrates twice instead of the usual one time. Usually within a second or two.

Yes, that's supposed to indicate fast charging mode is on. Keep in mind, it's only when using a usb-c to lightning cable and usb-c wall charger.

As long as the charger is 7.5w or better. I think the Apple chargers are only 5w. It will say it on it.
[doublepost=1524526594][/doublepost]Update to my post above #37. I bought a 30w power supply and USB cable from Amazon. I did not know about the ding twice until recently. I realize now that my Amazon cable was not providing a "fast charge". I bought one from Apple this time and paired with my amazon power supply, it dings twice and fast charges.
