agree, from what i’ve read replacing the phone might not fix it. i’d be happy if apple just admitted that. but if course they never will since there would be a class action lawsuit in 30 seconds...

I had problems with the gps on my X as well. I use GIS apps for work and was often seeing long waits before the phone would acquire an acceptable level of accuracy. Did some testing and it was far worse than an iPhone 7. Also notice the weird behavior in navigation apps where it would think I was going down an off ramp, for example. I dont live near an Apple store, so basically I’ve just lived with it. I really hope the 11pro is better.

yep exactly the same, especially the offramp thing. tested against 7, 6 and Xs which all work fine, or at least lock a lot faster and stay locked.

per apple's email system they have repaired the phone and sent it back to the store. no indication of what was done, if anything. guess i'll find out more when i pick up the phone.

ok, end of saga, maybe.

went to pick up the phone and found that along with the motherboard, apple also replaced the speaker, the face ID module, the screen, the camera (not sure which) and the battery. the genius could only speculate that they may have damaged the screen taking it apart, since she characterized this parts list as somewhat common. all of the parts have "physical damage" as the "reason" code. none of the exterior components were damaged when i handed the phone to apple. don't know why they would replace the battery except as a gesture of goodwill.

i tested the phone with the GPSTracker app and can preliminarily say the GPS behavior is better. while still not as good as the Xs, the location fix does not wander too far and i don't see the "lagging" behavior i saw before. on my test loop in the car, the old X averaged 18m accuracy while the repaired X averages 11m. of course i can't control for the positions of the GPS constellation so it's hard to know if the results really track the phone. i'll just have to keep using it with Maps/Google maps and see if it still thinks im getting off the freeway, etc.

Thanks for the update! Even though it seems like (somehow) I'm the only one around here bothered by this issue. I'm really interested to see if things keep going well for you over the next few days. If so, I might just look into trying a refurb X. Hope you finally have a functioning phone :)
