iPhone X in-store pick up - chances NOT getting phone

What happened to me last year with IUP for 2 phones - ordering to pick-up from store was the option I selected. I forget if that was the only option for me. You might think you don't have to wait because of your time window? Not true. You wait with 100 others who have the same time window. When I finally got in, they said my phone did not come in and they would call me when it arrived. It did arrive the following day. My second phone from a different store was there.
This time, with the app I was able to get in at 12:08 Pacific time. I used the app from each phone. I had the option for each phone either in-store pickup on Nov 3 or 2-3 weeks shipping Nov 17-24. I took the shipping option even though it was later. I didn't want to repeat what happened last year.
