I'd rather have an iPhone without the notch, with front-facing camera, with Face ID, and bezeless. Hide every sensor under the screen.

This is just the first generation I believe a few years down the line we could easily see that happen but to be honest after having an iPhone X for almost 3 weeks the knot is almost unnoticeable to day-to-day use

Agree, best phone yet. My work phone is an SE and it really feels dated when I'm using it.
I was thinking about it for a few months but took the plunge and no regrets :D

I've only had my iPhone X a week and I have to say Face ID is great, and fast. I upgraded from an iPhone 6 and don't miss touch ID at all. First thing out of the box I had to do was turn off raise to wake, it drove me crazy. Other than that my only real complaint is the added weight. This phone is so much heavier than my 6, the OLED display is so beautiful that it totally sold me that I need the X. Battery life not any different yet I can tell from my 6. I hung onto my 6 as long as I did because there was no basic change until the X, this was the right upgrade for me. Prior to my 6 I loved my old 4S. This from an old retired dude. Now to play with the improved cameras and decide if I need to sell my trusty Olympus digital cameras.

Agreed, I was skeptical at first, but I have grown to love my iPhone X. Now, if only they could fix everything wrong (incl. some very awkward gestures) in iOS 11 in the next release, I will be a happy camper.

I agree the X is the best atm and at least for me, but don't discount the 8/8+ too lightly, they're both great devices too.

Do you plan to upgrade in the future?? And how is your iPhone 6S Plus holding up??
Upgrade? First they gotta fix the notch. No matter how people spin and claim they “did not notice the notch” I won’t buy it. Get it out of the way or I will upgrade to iPhone 8 Plus instead if my 6s plus is about to die.
A trillion dollar company cannot put sensor under the screen and remove the notch? Sigh....

Well.... I guess, I need to truly give it a shot and see how it goes, for 14 days.

For me, among iPhones the 8+ is still the most appealing as it ticks more of the boxes that I value the most highly. The competition outside iOS is really hotting up big time as well now, the days where the iphone was automatically the best are behind us...

I love my iPhone 6s Plus because of one reason: headphone jack.
iPhone X is a great device but the notch is ugly. It also obstructs the view. Accepting something does not mean it is good.
Face ID is still not good enough, even though I can already see its superiority over Touch ID.
Glass back is prone to shatter or crack. But the feeling is unique and comfortable than aluminium.

You've never owned one.

I LOVE the notch! Well, kinda. I'd rather have it then a bar on top. Don't get why ''some'' companies have to make fun of it. There just isn't a better solution yet, until there is I'm all for the notch! Gestures are perfect, I find myself sliding up every time I use my mum's iP 8. Oled - amazing, Materials - real nice feel to them, Camera - almost perfect and probably my favourite thing, the curved edges of the screen, probably the most underrated feature after Face ID. My eyes almost start hurting every time I have to use the ''sharp'' lcd screens of the previous iPhones or most bezel-less phones. all those make it the ''perfect'' phone for me but thats personal. :)

I don’t really think it’s that cut and dry. The S9 looks like a beauty. I’m an apple man and own an X and have had mostly iPhones but owning android handsets and being active in the rom community in between those times there is much to love on both sides. In the end they both are basically the same just a different take on execution and it just comes down to personal preferences

Aside from the personal preferences of what somebody prefers, I would say the software experience plays a large role in that as well. With the iPhone 6/6S/7/8, physically, those phones are primarily all the same, but it’s iOS that keeps me devoted and the security measures behind it.

Looks like Android one is beginning to close that gap more now though, probably never going to quite reach iOS levels of locked down security, but should be good enough for most people. I’d not have considered an android phone even a year ago, but now some of the options are becoming increasingly tempting...

I recently just was issued a Galaxy S8 for a work phone. I was completely impressed with the hardware and how it felt in the hand. And even though it’s much different in terms of iOS with android, I actually found myself becoming used to it quite quickly. The One thing I did not care for with android is all the pre-installed applications that I do not find useful. The only other thing I did not like about the S8 was the fingerprint scanner on the back of the phone, but otherwise it’s a very nice device.

I love the X and FaceID. I came from a Plus phone and will defo go to a Plus version of the X. Just can't go to the 8 Plus because of the lack of the new gestures and FaceID.

I love iPhone's and don't want to leave. iPhone X and iPhone 4S are my dream phones. I love using both, I recently visited my home country and grabbed a brand new sealed 4S. I successfully downgraded it iOS 6 (one of best iOS versions)

The iPhone X has a more future proof design but I’d say an 8+ will stand the test of time slightly better. A battery that only needs recharging every two days takes a lot of stress off of the battery as it will not need 370 charges a year, but more like 180-200. It also has a more mature finger scanning technology and the good old LCD screen.
We don’t know if the iPhone X display will suffer from burn in after a couple of years, or if the face unlock will become a gimmick. Might be a long shot, but do we even know if the 2:1 aspect ratio will stick? 16:9 is a standard since long ago.

However we do know that iPhone LCD displays are rock solid and that Touch ID is both dependable and fast. If you’re shopping for a phone to have in 3-6 years I’d say go for the 8+ not the X. There are still many question marks about the X.

Doesn’t mean notch is not bad. It obstructs the view, at least for me, which is all that matters. AirPods is great right? I still return it after a week because sound quality is awful.

You love the notch and I hate the notch. Life will continue nevertheless.

That's completely your choice, but the direction the iPhones are headed in really does very little for me, and the constant upward price pressure, while it's occurring across the industry, seems to be most acute with Apple. Really, for what I use a smartphone for, I have no need to spend £1,149, I'd rather spend £700 twice over the same period. More expensive overall, but you're getting a fresh device every year rather than clinging to one for 2 years. I haven't really been into the idea of Android so far, but the One project, and Nokia's return via HMD has been a bit of a sea change - there are now devices I could really see myself getting. Samsung's Galaxy phones to me were just alternatives to iPhones, for the most part just as over priced and over specced for my use, but the Nokia 8 Sirocco looks the part for a much more competitive price. I guess I'd probably end up getting a secondary SE to keep my toe in the iOS pond, but I don't think I'll realistically be looking at an iPhone flagship ever again.

It's 2018 and bluetooth headphones are available in abundance, and some good quality ones are very cheap. They are also available in all different styles... The only reason anyone should still be using the audio jack is if they are an audiophile that requires excellent quality audio.... and not someone who is listening to MP3's or streaming music because that wouldnt make a difference. I am talking real audiophiles who have lossless quality music on their devices.

This is just a lot of silliness. There's no questions about the X. FaceID and the OLED screen work NOW. If you're worried about screen burn-in just remember not to leave your X's screen turned on for more than 17 hours. You should be okay.

The 8 series were hopelessly obsolete before they even announced them. The forgotten iPhones indeed.

One can easily wait for 2018 iPhone to get pretty much the features of the X for less (and with faster SoC as well).
Remember the first iPhone? A 2G smartphone for $499 WITH contract. It's a price for early adopters. Months later Apple slashed its price, and then the 3G came for $199 with contract.
Similar thing with the $1k X. It's the bleeding edge for the early adopters. Obviously you will pay more.

Those in the US (or countries with the IUP) should be grateful. I would jump on the iPhone Upgrade Program if it's available where I am since it's just common sense. In many countries, not only iPhone prices are significantly higher than US prices, there are no leasing program, let alone the one as good as Apple's IUP.
