Well all my friends have Samsung phones so its not a big issue lol. As a matter of fact I don't know anyone with an iPhone besides some people at work. I live in Australia, iPhones are not as popular here. Even if that was important to me I would not make the switch to iOS for it, Android has many features i'm not willing to give up. Perhaps Samsung / Android phones may start applying proper Colour management in the future., who knows.

Stop projecting your market share guesses as fact. A quick google shows Apple has a much higher market share than Samsung in Australia.

Im holding both the note 8, and the x in my hands right now. The note 8 looks better to me. Perhaps it is the true tone, i.will revisit tomorrow in the daylight.

Im not sure what you are trying to achieve here. I don't know anyone with an iPhone, we all use Android. End of story. Don't know what else to tell you. Where did I mention market share of Samsung vs Apple anyway? I just said iPhones are not as popular here and that is correct, Android market share is around 52 percent here.

Even then its all irrelevant anyway, i'm not changing to iOS for colour management, in fact i'm not moving to iOS fullstop but that is a different subject.

There is a big difference on mu 15" 2016 MacBook Pro and my X. They are similar in colors on both the laptop and my phone. Can see the logo in the top one.

Galaxy Note is King and I'm sure they didn't compare any of the Note 8's display modes....i seen my girlfriends iphone x and it looks dull. It has nothing on my Note 8 display. Also, ask Mr.Mobile what he thinks and he agrees with this assertion.

Much better article for comparison....

That’s because Samsung’s are over saturated. The pixel xl looks dull be is very accurate. People have been programmed to like touch mode. I get my TVs calibrated to be accurate

The article was completely bias. It didn't look at display modes for color accuracy for the Note 8. Viewing angles is to the eye of the beholder. There are more color shifts in the iphone X than the S8 or Note 8. You are better waiting for displaymate reviews. Leaving out information about resolution, ppi, display modes, customization for a cooler or warmer display etc. in the galaxy series really shows that the article was completely bias. In person, anyone who sees both displays knows the s8 and note 8 is impressive compared to the iphone X's display which is really a S6 panel with some Apple customizations. Hey, my girlfriend who sleeps next to me every night has the iphone X and even she said it cannot compete with the Note 8's screen. Happy iPhone Day....

What does sleeping next to you every night have anything to do with it?

I compared my Note 8 display to my neighbor's iPhone X. The Note 8 has the better display. It just shows everything more sharp and crispy. That and the fact that is brighter. And I would say it's a noticeable difference even at first glance.

The iPhone X is an amazing display though, and makes my iPhone 7+ display look like poop. But it just doesn't beat out my Note 8 display.

The current generation of Samsung panels are really amazing, ive owned my S8+ since launch and it still blows me away when I put a decent wallpaper on it.

Huh? In your last post you said. “All my friends has a Samsung..I live in Australia, iPhones are not as popular here”. You said nothing about android and we were discussing Samsung and Apple specifically.

Only thing I was discussing is colour management and how I'm not fussed about it working differently on Android/Samsung. My point has always been that its a non issue for me as all the people I know have Android and more specifically Samsung phones. Really just stop trying to make this an Android vs iOS discussion, im not interested whatsoever. Enjoy whatever phone you have ☺️

I never brought up anything about moving from android to iOS. You were curious about colour management and I gave you a thorough explanation. I didn’t even bring up market share.

look exactly the same on my S8 in adaptive mode.

FWIW, they appear identical on my Pixel 2, and 2015 MacBook Pro 15". Funny thing is, The Pixel 2 is running Oreo 8.1 (beta) and I was using Chrome. When I use Firefox on the Pixel 2, I see the logo, but the shades of red are identical between the two images. Run into this before with the Pixel 2, so I am skeptical of my phones 95% P3 color gamut, because those other sites images also don't render properly.

I think google is moving Android towards a similar model to iOS but it is not seamless at all, and there have been many complaints

http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/10/25/oreos-color-profiles-work-pixel-2-2-xl/

Yeah their Pixel 2 isn't really showing me wide color gamut on any of the test image sites too.

I used my X all night and was consistently impressed by how the OLED screen made dark colors look. BUT... whats with the brightness levels? Even with TruTone off then it just seemed too dim.

I fired up my 7Plus this morning and did a side by side and was surprised how dim the X is in comparison.

Oversaturated in Adaptive mode....place it in basic mode to see that natural color you apparently are looking for. A display with 4 modes......you should say Wow.....with totally different color gamuts, accuracy, white point, etc......So no confusion on my part. A better display can be placed in more modes, can be customized, can have better resolution, better ppi etc. So maybe you think just natural colors is a better display. You should really read that Note 8 displaymate review for true insight.

http://www.displaymate.com/Galaxy_Note8_ShootOut_100.htm

OLED for iphone users is like the second coming of you know who and they have no knowledge of it. I have experienced OLED screens for 10 years, if you haven't...you should not speak.

We don’t really care who has or has not had OLED for 10 years TBH. OLED is not the end all be all of displays. A display DOES NOT have to be OLED to be good. That’s why OLED has so many issues (ask Google). Does IPS have the issues of OLED? No it does not. Idc if you’ve been using an OLED since 1982 it doesn’t mean a screen has to be OLED TO BE good.

Also no I don’t an OLED display on an iPhone is like the second coming of ANYTHING... matter of fact I honestly wish Apple had kept the iPhone X IPS with an edge to edge display instead of GOING OLED!!!

Is OLED crap?? No of course not it’s great technology, but don’t come thinking OLED and IPS doesn’t have shortcomings because they both DO.

Whole point I’m making is IDC that you’ve been using OLED since 2008 (hmm.). Because OLED isn’t the end all be all of displays... they have issues too ..

Of course OLED is not end all be all, there will be new tech in the future that is better.

OLED has it's benefits like thinner to allow more component/battery room, lower power use, more vivid colors, contrast/blacks are true black etc.

There is no right answer here really; it's personal preference really.

its all speculation at the moment. However going off all the off axis colour shift complaints, lower PPI and lower brightness i'm going to bet its not the same generation as the S8. It seems likely its an S6 panel with a modified sub pixel arrangement and Apples colour calibration.

The answer is actually neither. It is a display that was produced by Samsung, to be exactly what Apple asked for. The resolution was chosen by Apple and is very in line with what their resolution bumps have been in the past (they want to leave room for another bump in the future). The color profile fits what Apple has been doing the last few years, which is bumping up their saturation/contrast, in this case 130% of SRGB. Samsung does take a different approach with their own, up to 200% sRGB as explained earlier in the thread, however for some, this may actually push beyond the appealing look of "full" colors, and therefore may seem over-saturated, based on opinion. Samsung provides options for these preferences, and lots of reviews fail to compare various modes, therefore subsequent feedback tends to bring on even more fractured opinions due to the partial information.

And by the way, at this point display superiority is now becoming preference towards color profiles. Expect this trend to continue accelerating over the next couple years.

Btw I call BS on the assertion that typical usage brightness is higher on the X's display, as they mention nothing about specifically turning off "Auto-Brightness" on the iPhone, which is found under general settings-accessibility-display accommodations, and if you don't turn off this hidden setting, adjusting the manual slider to the max will indeed benefit from the "boosted" auto-brightness feature.

Maybe I'm reaching, but no one will really know :)

Either way, the X has a great display, for sure.

Yes and I conceded that Samsung is not doing proper Colour Management and gave my reasons why it not a huge deal for me, lets just leave it at that :)
