And this mentality is why hardly anyone is saving money these days. Everyone looks at the monthly payments, and not the total cost of ownership. Sad.

Stupid to suggest it’s for the rich. Everybody’s who have a job can afford one. It’s no different than having a few nights out a month spending it on booze

Hardly, you. Budget what you can afford and prioritise what you buy.

You buy what you want and budget for it. If you can afford it each month I fail to see the issue.

Of course they can if we are talking monthly contracts which more people will do that pay outright for phones

Unfortunately there are many people who, even with a job, cannot afford a monthly smartphone contract. There are people out there barely scraping by on their paychecks, often in minimum wage, with their obligations for shelter, food, kids, medical bills, and so on. One can have a job and still be at or below the poverty level (unfortunately). They may not even be able to pass a credit check to be able to finance/go on contract. Those of us who can afford a ~$1,000 smartphone outright, or even on contract payments, may not necessarily be rich, but we are fortunate.

After watching the video, to me he is just stating things that have been discussed here already, just in a way that will get more views, subscribers, likes, comments, etc.

His opinion is basically that for what the X offers at its current price tag, there are similar or better alternatives out there for cheaper, whether by a little or a lot. If you don’t care, it’s what you want, and have money to burn (you’re rich), then fine go buy the X. If you are invested in Apple’s ecosystem, simply loyal to Apple, and get the latest iPhone as soon as it comes out (Apple loyalist), okay, it’s understandable that you will go buy the X.

Nothing triggering in the video to me. He simply doesn’t think the X is worth the price tag. His video to voice as he wants. *shrugs*

Every flagship I see has flaws.

Note8 - Too tall. Hate curved displays. Don't like Samsung's skin. Glass rears.

Pixel 2 XL - Worst display. Can't be recognized w/ Mac. No microSD slot like the Koreans.

V30 - Probably a $400 price drop in four months. Worst resell value. Panel isn't the best either and outclassed by Samsung. Glass rears.

iPhone X - Most expensive. Isn't really the best at anything whether cameras or battery life. Glass rears.

The only phone that doesn't have a glass rear (or mostly) is the Pixel 2 XL. The problem is the display is dim and it's pretty bad. No wireless charging. The best review for Pixel 2 XL isn't from Mr. Mobile but JimsReviewRoom.

I know Michael Fisher currently dual wields a Pixel 2 XL and LG V30. I also carry two phones but my 2017 combo would be iPhone X and V30 to have both Telephoto and wide-angle.

I have an issue with tall phones. Since I use a holster case, any phone taller than 155 mm becomes a problem. X is the perfect size but iOS is terrible with the Dasher app menu for me to get paid every late night on Mondays. Not to mention how much worse SwiftKey is on iOS than on Android.

I already have a pair of LGs that I feel is better than the V30 thanks to matte rears, removable battery, and IR blaster. Only thing V30 has on both is better looks but that glass gets dirty and sticky quicker .

Snapdragon 835 isn't that big of a performance upgrade except in battery efficiency. I guess I can keep chugging away with smartphones from 2016! ;)

I like how Ste Smith also pointed out flaws when using the X like when he holds it or how easy it scratches. Strongest glass, my ***.

Zack time!

^ Be very, very careful. Buy a $1000 iPhone after having a dilemma on color only to cover it all up with a cheap case. Defeats the purpose but then you need to protect it from expensive repairs.

Makes me want to buy the matte black iPhone 7 instead even with all the EMF and high SAR it has.

All this talk about price is really sad. I’m sorry but the 7+ last year was $950, roughly the same cost of the Note 8. The media only complains about Apple products and how expensive they are over the competition. Yet the majority of media people that will sit and run stories about price are using an Apple device. Why spend $999 for an Apple phone when you can get a Samsung phone for less. Who do you think pays the media to say this, ever notice they don’t include the price of the competition’s device in these articles or broadcasts. Oh and never do they mention Apple still has cheaper options available as does the competition. It’s hidden advertising.

The thing that bugs me in today’s society is the entitlement this generation has. They feel they are owed the latest & greatest and don’t have to earn it. Anything that isn’t instant gratification or the latest model is garbage to them.

There is nothing wrong with using an affordable device that fits within your budget. You aren’t missing out on anything. Just because you don’t have the latest gimmick doesn’t mean it’s a garbage device.

That makes no sense when for most people part of the price of the phone is subsidized over a contract term and on top of that the total payments are broken down monthly. Some people are literally paying $8 a month for the X.

Fair point, I wasn't factoring in people on min wage jobs.

As others have mentioned, the flagship Android phones aren't marginally less expensive than the X, but there don't seem to be many articles decrying the cost of the Note 8, etc. Even if the X is financially out of reach for some people, I'm glad that Apple and others are continuing to develop cutting edge technology that will some day make its way to lower income people. In autos, airbags, power window and locks, and a host of other features used to be only for the rich, too. I remember hearing people scoff at new cars with power windows as being "indulgences". Color television and air conditioning used to be for "the rich". It's never ending.

I found this interesting: http://www.zdnet.com/article/you-can-buy-a-new-iphone-for-less-than-the-original-palmpilot/

That argument doesn't work because a $150 SE also does all of those things.

The argument works perfectly, show me where I can spend $150 on all 3 with the same specs as the SE, screen size and everything.

If you want all three with higher specs, it's more expensive, unless I missed where the SE has these specs:

  • 12MP wide-angle and telephoto cameras
  • Wide-angle: ƒ/1.8 aperture
  • Telephoto: ƒ/2.4 aperture
[doublepost=1510158973][/doublepost]

I should have clarified.....EQUAL SPECS.

They all have red flags for me. Some have microSD slot, some don't. Some have headphone jack, some don't. It's like trying to build something with LEGO parts that don't fit. All flawed phones. That's why 2017 phones weren't as exciting for me like 2013, 2014, and 2016. One of the least exciting years since 2015. It's like watching Arrogate get dusted twice in Del Mar.

If the smaller Pixel 2 had a microSD slot so I can transfer files on my Mac via SD adapter, same screen/bezel ratio as its bigger brother, and came with a panda color, that would be my next phone. I would just have to live with its poor display. But alas! Can't be recognized on Mac. No microSD slot. Removed headphone jack. Poor display.

^ It's now picking which flaws you can live with. Just skip this year. Maybe LG or Apple will come back to their senses and go back to non-glass rears within a year or two. Maybe LG brings back removable battery? Wishful thinking.

Then again, they all love money and hoodwink us with planned obsolescence. Zack showed you just how much Apple loves money. This isn't like the iPhone 4/4s days. Once it is cracked, you're just going to have to live with it or spend another $529 for repairs. Get a case.

I'll roll with the oldies. Next revolution won't come in smartphones. It will be a miracle pill that can kill all diseases and make us live well beyond a 100+ years. The rest are just electronic "toys" to keep us occupied in life. The next technological breakthrough is not going to be the 100th or 1000th iPhone.

What world do you live in where everyone who has a job can afford a $1000 USD smartphone?

To elaborate, as many as 3/4 Americans live paycheck to paycheck. If missing one paycheck puts you in serious financial distress, you CANNOT afford an iPhone X. You can almost certainly buy one, but there's a difference between being able to buy something (especially on a payment plan) and being able to afford it. Unfortunately lots of people buy more than they can afford and spend their entire lives in debt.

This is the only iPhone worth its price.

$149.99 iPhone SE @ Best Buy

Cheaper than the iPhone 6 and it's more powerful than it.

Arguably looks better than the X even if it has a huge forehead and chin. At least your thumb can reach all four corners of the screen.

Doesn't need a case as it won't smudge or crack so easily. So the dilemma of picking a color and then covering it up with a case wouldn't be such a waste of time because it isn't as fragile.

Lightweight and easier to hold one-handed.

Easier and far cheaper to repair.

Last to offer a real physical home button and headphone jack.

Made buying an iPhone 6s pointless for me.

Only iPhone that ever far exceeded its price. Like Apple decided to rain down manna on us for once.

The MacBook Air of iPhones. Great design, cheap, fast, reliable, long battery life, and still has all the ports.

The rest is for showing off and throwing away money because some can. The iPhone Xcess.

The Apple iPhone Special Edition: Truly special. Best iPhone ever made inside/out. Only iPhone ever worth its price.

I ordered the X and I’m FAR from rich haha

Wouldn’t call myself an Apple loyalist either honestly.

I’ve owned Samsung, LG, Motorola devices as well. I go through these cycles when I go to different manufacturers. I’m currently on my Apple cycle.

I like Mr. Mobiles reviews because I feel he’s one of the more unbiased reviewers.

The SE is a damn good device for the price point. Too small for my taste personally
