Why do some keep acting like the 7 and 8 are cheap?
$550 starting price vs $700 starting vs $1000 starting. “Cheap”? No. Meaningfully cheaper than the X? Yes.

Eh..it depends on your perspective I guess.

In 2004, I had a $600 video camera, a $400 digital still camera, a $50 calculator, a $200 iPod, a $100 flip phone, and a $1000 laptop etc... Now I have replaced all of those things with a $1000 phone that also can do things that all those devices could never do
But doesn’t a $350 iPhone SE also replace all of the devices you listed?

It seems to me that when asking whether the X is “expensive,” the answer should be with respect to other available, capable smartphones in 2017, not with respect to 2004 technology.

If we can afford the societal cost of providing “trigger warnings” - then we should be able to handle the existence of an expensive iPhone.

Taking into consideration that most americans have less than $10k in their savings...

The SE is a damn good device for the price point. Too small for my taste personally

Give me a 8 shaped iphone 5s with the plus camera then take my money.

I don't think it's for the "Rich". Everyone keeps brushing off that the Note 8 is only $40 cheaper. Apple makes cheaper phones for those who have budget constraints or don't feel the phone is worth it. Plus if you get it on a carrier paying over 2 years it's not really expensive, pretty much a $1k loan with no interest.

aahh, so paying $1,000 upfront is expensive, but paying $1,000 over 2 years all of a sudden makes the phone not really expensive! got it. Maybe I can afford to purchase that Boing 747-8 for my own use after all. Just pay it off over many years and it will be not too expensive

Serious question. What advantage does the X bring to you that your 7 didn't have? Internet access? Check. Apps? Check. Texting/calling? Check.

Is the fancy camera something you need? Or the lack of home button? The animojis? Better battery? Smaller screen? Face ID because you don't have fingers? Sure the X has the cool factor and that could be an advantage albeit pretty superficial.

The advantages to me are the OLED screen, 120hz touch input, performance improvements, Face ID, no home button / gesture based UI (my favorite part of the X), and the camera improvements. All of these combined make for a much better experience. The gestures specifically are the biggest improvement for me since 2007, besides maybe retina screens.

Fair enough. Was just curious :).
