iPhone 5 can still be easily handled by one hand. It is a 16:9 ratio screen hence still practical. In fact, I would love an iPhone 5 with wider screen.

You absolutely nail it 🙂 contrary to the OP comment, the iPhone x size and design is perfect. It is a beautifully designed. Kudos to Apple.

I wouldn't say ugly because the front looks decent but the back is where I would tap to test how easily it smudges. Both color options did so. I was shocked because the gold 8 Plus and space gray 8 are not like it almost like they both have oleophobic.
I feel it is laying the foundation stuff for the next three successors. The only thing I really enjoyed is how fluid the gesture animations are. The thing is, swiping on the bottom to go back to the homescreen can easily be added on a software update for older iPhones.
I was surprised how my right thumb could not reach the top so easily. I tested on my Pixel and thought it would be easy. It isn't. Trying to reach the app on the highest left is harder and I never turn on reachability. Nova Prime has gesture shortcuts where you can just swipe up on an app icon.
I wanted to get it just as an honor to iPhone for 10 years but it's like after watching The Phantom Menace and The Force Awakens. To me, Android wouldn't be great today if iOS wasn't so amazing its first five years (2017-2012). But "The X" which Best Buy employees all called it is great at being Xpensive but not really being the best at anything.
Pixel 2 XL has a better camera and battery life but X is more Xpensive.
Note8 has arguably a better camera too, better design, better display, more features, Samsung Pay is clearly superior to Apple or Android Pay, but X is more Xpensive.
Worse battery life, lower resolution, less sharper, (PenTile), same SoC, RAM, and nearly same rear camera as 8 Plus but X is more Xpensive.
Very good battery life but not the best. Pixel 2 XL, Note8, and 8 Plus beat it.

What exactly is the X the best in right now? I think it's Apple best iPhone ever made but being that doesn't validate the price and the gap between it and 8 Plus is as small of a gap as yearning for Face ID and Animoji. Not a big enough gap of $200.
Check the video below. I really was 110% sure with silver but like the kid below, he is now changing his mind for space gray. I'm honestly not wowed by either color but sg seems to look a little better for me in person.
Not trying to knock the X. It's probably going to win best smartphone of the year and sell over 100M but it really is iPhone Xpensive while NOT being #1 in any important category except price.
X's best feature with gesture controls is software-based. Apple could easily add that for older iPhones by 11.3.

You're still putting money in Samsung's pockets for that X's display and flash storage. And still using Google services like Search and YouTube with ads every single day. The more iPhone X are sold, the better for Samsung and Google too. 😉

I don’t mind buying Samsung products but not note 8. Way too big, it’s inconvenient for me to use plus size from any company now, have used 2 iPhone plus sizes.

At first, I thought it was just me when I kept missing keys.
I don’t think it’s too tall, but I wish it was wider. The double hieght status bar under the keyboard makes no sense to me.

In the context of the UI, the extra space there makes sense.
It’s the swipe area to go between apps, it’s the new Home button swipe etc.
Agree, it could do with being more functional and I’d really like a number key row above the letters too, but I get why Apple did what they did.

Not that it matters, as most MR members never shut off their phones, but it takes two buttons to power off. The power button activates Siri if you press and hold it.
Power off is the power button and the volume down button.
Hah, I think you're probably (mostly) on your own here. This is arguably the most beautiful iPhone they've made so far (maybe the 4 is nicer). I wasn't expecting to love this phone as much as I do. I needed to upgrade, as it had been a few years, but I really really really like this phone.
I do wonder why they changed the aspect ratio on the X? Why not just take a plus model screen and eliminate the bezels and make it oled?

I like the X. I think it is a great looking phone. But being used to the 6s+ I notice the slightly thinner screen for sure.
And yes, I have a X. I am typing on a silver 256gig X now for all those claiming that those that question the phone just didn’t get one on release day.

I haven’t seen a X in person but I had a 4 for work back in the day. That was a beautiful phone. I think easily it was the nicest looking design in all of the models that I’m aware of.
How is the usability with the x phone? Does the notch get in the way of daily use with apps?
i think calling it ugly is a stretch, but then again notch is not the way i would have like to see it go! i realise this wouldn't be the most popular opinion, but i'd gladly lose the selfie camera and have a rear touchID just to have a totally bezel-less slab.
otoh i do still feel that even the 5 was too tall compared to the 4s. i've never felt that the additional length the 5 had compared to the 4 made a positive difference to usability. never upgraded to a 6-style. still on an SE here as it's the smallest one going.
hope they continue to make a smaller form factor. can't see myself ever wanting a phone in the X or 8 form factors, unless my eyesight fails haha.
the X looks attractive, but with its size and the lack of headphone port, as well as the idea of faceID which concerns me from a privacy standpoint, i'll wait and see what else they come up with in the next few cycles. hope the SE lasts a long time 🙂 for my use case, as a quick place to check emails and a glorified ipod, i really don't want anything larger.

Usability is good. There's a few things here or there that I think Apple has fallen behind on when it comes to UX, but the concerns I had about this phone prior to receiving it are non existent now. The notch doesn't get in the way.
I thought the 4 was beautiful and such a pleasure to hold and use. The X, in my opinion, is even better. I have it in Silver and it is such a beautiful, premium looking (and feeling) phone. It had a lovely color shift.
I am coming from a 5s so the X overall is a big change but it is truly a pleasurable one. Honestly, the notch is a non issue for me. It sort of fades away. Not that I never see it, but it sort of blends away visually for me.
It also has function, in marking the swipe areas. I like that the clock and such are tucked up in the corners. I think it is much nicer than if they had just expanded it as a bezel (physical or digital) across the top. And yes, it is identifiable as a iPhone even in a case.
I never worried about the notch in the first place but I may even be veering over to being pro-notch. 😛

Exactly. The whole point I'm arguing here is that it is too tall. Not only make it looks like a dumb TV remote, but it makes one hand operation extremely hard. To reach to the top or bottom "dead zone", it is more difficult than iPhone 7 Plus (depending on where you hold it).

Reviewers have to say something good otherwise next time they don't get shiny new phone from Apple for review. For your information I ordered 3 and picked up yesterday from Apple Store. I'm so happy that there are lot people like it. That makes it easy to sell on eBay.
I think I'm saying the opposite? I had such difficulty one-handing the Plus; having to shift the phone up and down my palm to either get to the top or bottom (home button), and then typing was a mess with the thumb (side to side). Apple acknowledged the typing issue and made the Keyboard Shift function in the iOS update. With the X, however, that's all been alleviated--at least for me and others here. The keyboard is shifted up so that you don't have to slide the phone to switch between the keyboard at the bottom and other things at the top (and theres no need for a home button). Side-to-side typing with one hand (thumb) is much easier without having to squish the keyboard to one side. Removing the excess real estate off the Plus is a delight to my pockets as well.
I was trying to use iPhone X for one week most of the time with one hand. I'm getting figure fatige.
