I guess youtubers are trying hard to get iPhone x screen burned in now, the first one will get millions hit. If you want to break it, it will break, if you want to bend it, it will bend, with normal use, I am not worried. My iPhone 6 plus not bent at all after 3 years of normal use

get apple care+, get screen replaced before warranty expires. extend screen life and save money. easy

This is my first OLED device I've ever owned (unless you count the Touch Bar on the 2016 MacBook Pro), so having never experienced OLED, the only anecdotes I can go off of are the horror stories about people getting burn-in after a few days of use. But wouldn't my MBP Touch Bar be even more prone to burn-in since it's constantly displaying the same buttons on the edges? When you use a phone, it's usually while you're on the go.

My S8 has burn in. Never use it at max brightness most the time below half. I got it from the youtube app. I have a 45 min drive to work. Most the time listen to some type of podcast show and so on. No i don't watch videos when driving. Anyway i always was leaving the screen in portrait mode and on. Notice the other day I have burn in from where the video and rest of the page starts.

It sucks but it happens.

How? I have a first generation Apple Watch and it doesn't have this.

This is when viewing an all white picture and under normal use.

Reduce transparency on and wake screen on tap set to 15 secs.

I work from home and normally have had a particular news channel playing on my iPhone for many hours at a time. As news channels often do, there are relatively static logos and tickers on the screen most of the time. I will not be doing this same thing with my iPhone X.

For those that want to tell me to "just use it", I dare you to keep a static image on your iPhone X for ~6 hours a day, 5 days a week.

All in all, I prefer OLED over LCD.

nope... in about 8mons i'll be pre-ordering the next iPhone. I won't have the X long enough to experience any issues.

Wasn't this burn-in issue a problem with Plasma TV's before LCD?
True. Another reason why Samsung chose to use their QLED tech in their TV lineups instead of OLED.

They already did - they issued a statement saying burn-in is normal. Job done!
Hmmm so is it going to be covered by Apple’s limited warranty?

So if the Pixel shifts one to right then later back to the left but you have design elements that are multi pixels thick how would that prevent burn in. ie battery bar. Also, there is the issue of oled pixel degradation.
Battery bar isn’t static unless you figured out how to never lose a charge using the phone.

He problem is we dont yet know what will cause burn in and for how long you should or shouldnt use static background.
Some exact info would certainly help.
OLED isn’t a new technology and yes burn in is a known issue with it. The good thing is most manufacturers know how to reduce the risk except for one that starts with the letter G.

I’m deathly worried. I keep my iPhone powered off in a sock and in a secret drawer. If someone needs to reach me they can send a telegram.

Loving my iPhone though.

As somebody who owns multiple Apple watches and use them frequently, I have no burn in at all on any of them. I don't see too many Apple Watches that actually do suffer from Burn in, even though as your photos indicate, it's very possible.

I'm concerned, especially for a gen 1 product, but yet with the maturity of the technology, my hope is that apple was able to implement OLED in a such way to mitigate the effects. Time will only tell, but I am mindful of the burn in, so my brightness is lower then usual, I have the time out to turn off the display fairly quick, etc etc.

Wasn't this burn-in issue a problem with Plasma TV's before LCD?

I can only speak to my own experience with Plasma TVs but both that I’ve owned have had image retention but not burnin.

The first TV I had from 2005 until 2009. The other from 2008 until now. I play a lot of video games with HUDs that are static, used to play for 8 -12 hours straight when I didn’t have a family. On the old model, that would cause image retention but I would white out the screen with a sleep timer for 30min when going to bed. Cleared out the image retention.

On my current TV, it rarely shows image retention because it does the pixel orbiter like the iPhone X all the time. Moving the picture slightly by a pixel in another direction. Once in a while there is a slight image retention but watching any video will clear it out.

Neither TV ever had burn in. I have seen it on static screen monitors used for business dashboards that displayed the same image for days. I don’t see that as being normal use though, days of the same image.

I’m sad people gave up on plasma TVs due to misinformation about them. They have had the best picture of any TV I’ve ever owned. I’ll probably go with an OLED when my current one burns out if I can’t find a used plasma in good condition.

When I bought it they said the display brightness cuts in half after about 10 years but mine is still bright as hell when I turn on game mode. Hopefully I’ll get another 9+ years from it. I only sold my old one to upgrade in size.

Dang. This does not bode well for me then since I play Pokémon and use my phone for navigation. I wish I could’ve had an option for either oled or lcd.
You do have that option, you could have bought the iPhone 8. Burn-In is the nature of the beast, Plasma TVs had the issue but also had superior picture quality over LCD. One reason Apple stayed away from OLED for so long was Burn-In issues. But with people pushing more for them and the popularity of OLED TVs they caved.

The only people who get screen burn in are the idiots who leave their screen on never turn off and maximum brightness overnight.

I have a Samsung phone with non-Super AMOLED screen from 2009 and it doesn’t have burn in.
Pixel 2 owners would disagree with you.

So this isn’t a thing?
It’s my X and it’s bad

It's not a burn-in! Almost every X has it: you can search other threads on the forum. It varies from screen to screen. Mine has something similar, but it's not as pronounced and way smaller. It's only visible on that Clock app screen and not seen while watching normal content. I've had it since day one, so it can't be burn-in related for sure. It's some sort of the structure of these screens.

...but I am mindful of the burn in, so my brightness is lower then usual, I have the time out to turn off the display fairly quick, etc etc.
So you pay more to use the device in a less than optimal way than you did on the less expensive device. Makes sense...
