There's so much more missed oppurtunity by apple to make the device better.... Don't get me wrong i enjoy it alot but here is a list of stuff alot of people want:
  1. Bring up the status bar information so it fits better next to the notch, if needed make the font of it smaller.
  2. Add an option to unlock the phone without swiping up.
  3. Add control center to the multitasking screen instead of stretching your thumb every time.
  4. Force close apps by swiping up instead of holding one down first. One can simply swipe from bottom to get back.
  5. Get back battery percentage in the status bar.
  6. Make safari landscape mode wider on the iPhone X.
  7. Customize lock screen force touch buttons.
  8. Hide the "home" bar.
  9. Dark mode is even more important for the X due to OLED burn-ins.
This empty wasted keyboard space is just another one to add to the list.

Agree with almost all of those except white text on black background is far worse for OLED image retention.

This post makes no sense whatsoever. Just because some people don’t like the design of something, doesn’t make it a Beta product.

First generation products have been proven worthwhile under Tim reign if anything rather than hose customers

RMB , applewatch , SE (repackaged 5
Trend, this phone has been out 2 years almost and people still revere it) 2016 redesign MacBook Pro, iPhone 6 if you get phones based on new design (had four iterations of same things), 12.9 iPad having 1.5 year lifespan and still paving the way (even without p3 and ProMotion/TT), Apple TV 4 (tvOS First gen, same thing minus 4K and 2 year lifespan) come to mind. And iPhone 7 plus with dual cam and speakers and 3gb a "new" old design of the 6

Tho always up for debate and can be nitpicked.

Well, when you open the SwiftKey app you can actually experience what it would feel like typing on a keyboard that sits lower and more near to the bottom of the phone:

And I can tell you, this is not nice to type on. I remember reading somewhere that Apple put the keyboard that high so it would be around the same position as on all other iPhones which have the bezel and home button below it. It looks stupid in screenshots, but in real life you don't want it any lower than it is. Just pressing the space bar in the above example is painful.

Obviously they could add some other functionality there to fill up the empty gap (as it looks pretty ugly), but the position on screen is right.

It’s actually the way it should be as the bar at the bottom of the screen could be engaged on accident when typing near it. I am willing to bet this was a well thought out design.

Other quibbles...
  • No clock indicator to show that you have an alarm set
  • Face ID doesn't work well when lying on a desk
  • No indicator that wifi/data is being used (spinning cog)
  • Cannot set battery to show % - you have to swipe down the control panel to see it
Do yo7 have Require Attention for Face ID turned on in settings? I turned it off so phone would be easier to unlock from weird angles. Yeah Touch ID was better when the phone is lying flat, but Face ID is better for me in nearly every other situation so I can live with that.

First question. Do we know more could be done with this space that wouldn’t cause other issues? It’s easy to do mockups that look good but has anyone been able to test out their mock-up on the phone?
You can’t really test a mockup of a system-wide feature like this. It’s iOS so we can’t modify it to see; only make sandboxed apps to test.

I think of the X’s screen in the same way as 3D Touch. iOS 9 didn’t really take great advantage of it, but when iOS 10 was announced 3D Touch was everywhere. It’s the same deal, in iOS 12 the screen will be better utilized, and a lot of stuff will be more optimized for that form factor.

Apple is really slipping in the quality control department recently...
What? lets see your UI design. I'm sure it works perfectly. Have you ever tried to use the control center by swiping up when the keyboard is up on your iphone? It usually just ends up activating keys on the keyboard instead of pulling up the control center. The same gesture on the iPhone X that is used for going back to the home screen malfunctioning in this way would have been way more noticeable and way more incontinent. My guess is the "empty space" is there by design so that the swipe up gesture can work as expected when the keyboard is up.

I would have to imagine that change is coming. They changed a lot in the UI, so ripping the bandaid off on other things to optimize for the new screen may have been too much in their eyes, at first.

When the Note 8 was new, similar things were said about that device, as did some issues exist in the original iOS version that shipped on the iPhone 6+.

Honestly, I don't even think they need to add any extra buttons down at the bottom (not saying they shouldn't). I think if they made the globe/alternate keyboard symbol a lot smaller and move the keyboard down some so you can see more of the content in the upper half, that would be a big win. That bar at the bottom is sooooo much bigger than it needs to be.

Myabe time macrumors speaks about the iphone X bluegate ?
Or did you get smoked by apple's PR stunt like bees in their nest ?

I sort of like that blank space because I prefer the emoji / keyboard toggle button down there instead of next to the space bar. It means I hit it accidentally less than I used to.

I would love to see frequently used emojis down there, or to customize the space etc.

First the "Buckteeth", (or Widow's peak) on the hardware, and now the "Lantern Jaw" in the keyboard software!

Did Apple not Beta-test this junk?
