15 minutes minutes after the launch of the iPhone 8, they are still in stock...
I can’t imagine the 27th of October for the iPhone X

Yup the fact that apple and verizon still have all colors and options shipping on 9/22 means the X will be a nightmare

Almost every year Apple releases some new phone or configuration that they just can't make enough of, and order times slip immediately. The X is undoubtedly going to be that this year, perhaps even more than the rare ones from previous years. I don't envy X buyers this year.

If production of the X is as slow as has been indicated, yeah it will probably have dates slipping very quickly.

I ordered an 8+ for my son and it went very smoothly. Easiest pre-order ever for me.

I am waiting on the X. None of us know what the supply will be in early November. But I have found that Apple usually over delivers. And I suspect they are going to want to get as many sold for the holiday season as possible. Keep the faith.

The last 3 times I have pre-ordered a new iPhone during the "crush" it always goes the same way.

12:00AM Hit the pre-order web site. (this is all AT&T)
12:30AM After a few frantic attempts, my shopping cart is ready. Press "Submit Order"
12:35AM Email stating my new iPhone is pre-orded and will ship in 2 weeks. Woohoo!
01:35AM Email stating my charge did not go through (Transaction Cancelled by Visa! Fraud exception - Visa seems to be saying: "why would someone who never makes large purchases suddenly spend $1000 at 1:00 in the morning? Impossible! Must be fraud.")
01:36AM Dial my Barclay Card Visa (you know the Apple Visa?) 1-800 number. They apologize and allow me to rerun my purchase.
02:00AM After being on phone with Visa for 20 minutes I finally get a second shopping cart ready to go. "Submit Order".
02:05AM Email stating my new iPhone is pre-orded and will ship in 4 weeks. (notice that? Because of my bi-annual decline I just lost 2 weeks!)

Go to bed.
7 days later.. Brand new iPhone on the porch.

Is there a better way?

I think apple need to clear stock inventory before pre order night , so people dont waste their time to deal with ....

at least they say 10% or 20 % in stock in every state , or every local store
so people can get ready to race

this dube wait 10 days ealier before launch day iphone 8/8+

I dont understand... is people not embarrassing
No, they are not. The question is .... when he acquires his device and goes home, what's next? There is no thrill to be had after the event or "Project" of acquiring the device. There is only the one tiny thing that happened .. he got it moments before a few others. That was the tiny reward for all that trouble. Is it pathetic? In every respect ... YES! I'm embarrassed to be in the same country with this guy. All of us should be.

12 million units is a lot, it will sell out but not faster than say iPhone 4 or iPhone 6. 90% of people aren't going to preorder, and most of those won't stay up until midnight Cupertino time just to order a phone. 12 million people don't read macrumors.

Yep, definitely calling my credit card company before hand to let them know what to expect on the 27th.
I had an issue with a credit card in the past and what happened was Apple would still hold the order for 24 hours so you can get the payment figured out. If you take longer than that then your phone gets reassigned to someone else.

So let say there is 1 iphone available in local store on launch day , will anyone thinking to go lining early 10-30 days before launch day ?????
