Why does everyone assume the demand for the X will be that strong? Maybe lots of folks are very happy with their 6, 6s or 7. Pretty much the same phones.

Just think ... your self
do you want buy X or 8

if you answer. X

then almost 6 billion people in the world think like you

I’m not in a huge hurry nor worried about ordering the X. Worst case scenario I just wait until the AirPower mat comes out next year. I’d like to get the X and mat all at once.

No one saying that they're not happy with their past iPhone models. But it's also no surprise the iPhone X will be the most in demand iPhone likely since the first generation iPhone at launch 10 years ago. It's that big of a launch coming November 3. It's not an assumption, it's a fact. If somebody doesn't preorder the iPhone X, it could be easily February 2018 Or beyond until they receive it.

15 minutes minutes after the launch of the iPhone 8, they are still in stock...
I can’t imagine the 27th of October for the iPhone X

I still can't believe it's another month until people can pre-order.

And then it'll be another several weeks until they start to ship?

Why not just allow people to pre-order now?

I for one am very happy with my iPhone 8 Plus for now. While I am very much interested in the X, I really feel that I need a hands on in store to decide whether its worth going through the hassle of getting and selling my 8 Plus. Luckily I live in Hong Kong, and the grey market here will be crazy for the X. I will attempt the preorder and if I get it on launch day I will keep one X for myself and sell the other one for a crazy profit. People here in Hong Kong love their shiny new iPhones!

I'm guessing that most people will opt to get it through their carrier with a 2 year plan.
I'd like to believe not many will try to order directly from Apple and pay $1630 with a click, so I'm kind of liking my changes here.

Because the x is the phone people have wanted for years...no more 4 year old design

^This

I've been wanting this to happen since the iPhone 4, I wanted them to move the home button to the side and remove the top and bottom bezel so it would be all screen.

An the iPhone X is the closest thing to that dream so i couldn't be happier. I cannot wait to get the phone.

They start to ship one week after preorders, just like other launches.

Go on Ebay that day and see the scalpers prices. There WILL be a few. Bet the prices wil be $1,800+.

This demand vs limited stock - type hype - is a great way to drive up "demand". Not saying its a technique, but it sure will work.

12 million units is a lot, it will sell out but not faster than say iPhone 4 or iPhone 6. 90% of people aren't going to preorder, and most of those won't stay up until midnight Cupertino time just to order a phone. 12 million people don't read macrumors.

it's a worldwide launch. it's not midnight for everyone. ;)

Not as many people care about this as you might think. I never really hear people in real life complain that the current design looks old or dated. I’ve never even heard anyone offline use the word “bezels”, let alone complain about them.

They do when you compare it to other current smart phones

Certainly when it comes to spending huge amount of money. It looks very outdated

In my experience, most people who already have iPhones don’t really compare them to other devices. When it’s time to get a new phone, they just get a new iPhone, because that’s what they know. They don’t think of it as looking dated. Even I, as someone who does research other phones, don’t think that the current design looks old or out of date. It’s just a matter of personal opinion and preference.

Indeed it is 8am here in the UK which is quite civilised and for me at least, convenient!

I wonder if it will be one per person?

I reckon two per person but I wish they would limit to one per person - at least in the first few weeks of release or until delivery times drop to within a week.

Remember they also have to allocate stock of the X to carriers too.

So folks who order directly from AT&T, SoftBank etc may have to wait longer.

No, they are not. The question is .... when he acquires his device and goes home, what's next? There is no thrill to be had after the event or "Project" of acquiring the device. There is only the one tiny thing that happened .. he got it moments before a few others. That was the tiny reward for all that trouble. Is it pathetic? In every respect ... YES! I'm embarrassed to be in the same country with this guy. All of us should be.

When the Buffalo Wild Wings opened up in my town, about two dozen people camped out the night before to take advantage of some "first 20 customers get a year of free wings" promotion. People with lots of time on their hands will do things like that. I never would (time is a very valuable commodity to me), but I don't care what other people do. It is amusing to see each year.

Don't underestimate the demand. They are releasing the X worldwide (including China) on the same day. Demand will WAY outstrip supply (and the capacity of their web servers and those of the carriers).

Most of us will be waiting 1-2 months to get their phones even if we are fully caffeinated and ready at 12:00:01 on preorder day. I've been through this too many times to expect otherwise.

Experience from prior preorders.

There have never been enough devices on launch day, and the X is like no other release before.

Apple does this on purpose. They never want to over saturate the market right away. They want the news coverage of, sold out everywhere, eBay prices!.....the list goes on. This generates more hype around the product and in the the end they end up selling more. Apple is pretty good at making phones, they are even better at marketing them.

Ya but remember each region has its own allotted amount so different countries don'f affect us here in the US. At least, that's how it usually is.

I'm not sure what will be more of a nightmare, the pre-orders... or the lines...
