I’m getting sick of their launches and jumping thru hoops to get this phone.

I went to a store here in Seattle and they had some in stock but said the only way I can get one is to order it for in store pickup and then I can buy it.

What kind of BS is this? It’s almost like they want to make things difficult to buy this phone.

Based off my experience, It's really not that difficult, it just sounds like you're not fully aware of the process in order to purchase the iPhone. You can order right from your iPhone if need be, which could have been completed in store.

I'm sorry to hear that. Im having issues myself with my order as well. I've waited for my X for a month and it's supposed to arrive November 27th, but has not once been updated on my account since the day I ordered it (November 4th) it just says "order created". I understand delays, but the store promised me I'd have it latest by the 27th, so obviously I'm annoyed.

While you were in the store you could have ordered on your iPhone and may have got an appointment for pickup in up coming hour....this works provided that you have an iPhone.....

Well I am aware but I’ve never had to order in store before unless it was a new launch. I don’t get why I just can’t pay for it and be done with it instead of having to deal with a pre authorization on my card and etc.

They said if it was an 8 plus it would be no issue.

I use to be able to just walk into Apple and buy a phone, but I'm planning on getting my X in Portland. If I order for pickup in Portland and "if" my flight cancels, can I call them to either send it to me or cancel the order? I presumed I will be charged sales tax if they send it to me to California?

I spoke with a manager who said it’s because of supply constraints and scalpersa and folks who come to Oregon for no sales tax.

Pretty much it’s a directive for the whole west coast he said

So to avoid the credit card authorizations I got last year with the MacBook Pro. I’ll just buy an Apple store gift card and order with that.

I didn’t realize how big the sales tax avoidance thing was here in Washington.

Why be annoyed? You have until the end of your delivery drivers promised time Monday. After that time you can be annoyed. Not before.

Because it’s not going to arrive on Monday, obviously. There has not been any status update on it, and I went to complain today and they said I should expect a week delay. So much for them promising me that if i paid before hand it’ll be guaranteed the 27th.

I second on this. A credit card authorization is a control to ensure any purchases are within the credit card limit and the users are authorized for using the credit card. Unless there are some unauthorized actions toward a credit card, the preauthorization should not be a big deal.

I think Apple did this due to an agreement with the carriers. I do not like it either but if you want the phone order it and wait a few minutes and pick it up! Well worth the trouble.

A carrier authorization is a great control to ensure only authentic customers of the carrier can buy the carrier phone. I hope sometimes in the future, Apple and the carriers especially Verizon work together to strengthen the control to purchase the carrier phone so only genuine carrier customers can get their carrier phone. I like the existing control. However, it is still weak.
T-Mobile and other carriers customers should have never got or be allowed to get Verizon (the no.1 carrier in the US) phone, at least until the sim free phone is released. Non Verizon customers deserve their carrier phone only, which it should be. At least, the non Verizon customers have to pay full price, which is very good.

Mine said ship between nov 17th- nov 27th and I was kinda worried yesterday and it ended up shipping yesterday so just be patient it wil probably ship out tomorrow, I found out that there ship dates are not deliver dates so as long as it ships out by tomorrow night you should get it in a couple of days.

What’s the big deal of having a credit card authorization?

Because it creates an issue with the balance. When I got my MacBook Pro with touch bar last year the pre authorizations and then the actual charge almost created a situation where my card was maxed out.

If something is 1799 for example then they should simply charge that plus tax and that’s it.

Last year when they did the pre authorization I had to call for a limit increase.

That’s why I am buying a gift card for the Apple store and ordering the phone that way so that I can ensure there is no authorization aka temporary double charges.

So it’s a big deal to me. We all can’t be money bags like you where having thousands of dollars tied up is no issue.

Fingers crossed.

No, the preauthorization is a smaller amount. Then you are charged for the phone. Eventually the preauthorization expires. If the total purchase is near your limit, you could find that the phone charge is denied due to the preauthoriation.

They charged your more on the pre authorization than the cost of goods+tax?

Yep they did a pre authorization which took away from my available credit and then captured the charge which caused me to go over limit.

Yep! That’s why going forward I will only buy Apple store gift cards for purchases and I was honestly just going to get an 8+ because Apple makes it so hard to have the device you actually want by applying silly conditions about how it has to be ordered for pickup even if there are 500 in the back room and your standing in store and have to wait an hour for pickup.

Haha. Hardly money bags. What I did was open up a credit card exclusively for online shopping or similar type transactions. That way it’s not interfering with my day to day.

It's still an unnecessary hassle. I mean I know we are on a Apple fan site of sorts but defending such things is kinda far fetched. Why does a customer have to order online for pick up when the same customer is going to the store and asking for a phone that is in stock?

Meh, improve your credit and get a better credit card? Credit cards offer a lot of benefits like Purchase protection and Extended warranty, using a giftcard is honestly as good as paying cash.

Not the one to usually say such things, but you shouldnt be buying an iPhone X if you think "we all can't be money bags".

I don’t know why you are having a hard time just go online and order it or order it from your carrier I already received mine it only took two weeks

100 bucks is 100 bucks for the 64GB or 115 bucks for the 256GB model. The law is Washington says you're supposed to pay the sales tax when you return to Washington. I've bought other hardware in Oregon without ths "preorder" procedure.

Sounds like if you wait for the supply to catch up with the demand you might be able to buy a tax free model in Oregon. Next time you're down in Portland, stop at Janzen Beach where all the major stores are. It's the first stop after the border and flooded with Washington shoppers trying to save a dime a dollar.
