Also didn't get 3 seconds into the video "iPhone X is packed with risk" GTFO.

These people are insanely full of themselves.
Yep, that's what ticks me off with reviewers these days. They have no idea what they are talking about in order to make a real impact in people's choices. The fact that it was even brought up about old apps look bad on the phone is just a sign of someone who really should not be in this business. Can't blame the phone.. can't blame apple.. can only blame developers. But of course it's considered a major issue to the verge so hey lets all jump ship on the X. Agh!

Why are the reviewers always people who seem to have no idea how to use the phone? I don't consider that to be a good review. I prefer people who already know how its supposed to work, so they don't waste review commentary on things that are the result of them figuring out how it works....or worse...drawing conclusions and still not knowing how it works.

Most journalists usually don't know much about the subject matter they cover.

Hmmm....after looking at various ‘reviews’ Im getting nervous on FaceID

Don't be nervous. Buzzfeed had this to say about FaceID....

Buzzfeed News said:
"Simply put: Face ID is really ****ing impressive."
And everyone trusts Buzzfeed. They know I'm more of a Ross than a Chandler, and that Mulan is the Disney Princess that best represents me.

We want reviews from people like that, however I still believe the target market for these devices are always the general public. The discovery is something the General public tends to like (from what it seems).

The deep down features in the phone (3D Touch for instance) are more for us in the tech space, and sadly Apple doesn’t really give these devices to many that understand deep features of smartphones. Clearly there are some exceptions, such as The Loop, iMore, and the verge (corrected*), but the later provided a really basic / consumer review so far.

So you can turn the ugly white bar at the bottom off right ? What purpose does it serve other than for iPhone X beginners who don't realise there isn't a home button anymore ?

This isn't anything new. I could excuse some of them as trying too hard to appeal to your nontechie mainstream audience but many of the reviewers seem to be at that same level (these are useless for most part). The best reviews for me are the ones who know what they're doing and assume you do too, skip the nonsense like notches or no headset jack, and get more technical.

Apple feeding the youtubers might be the lowest point yet. Just when you thought things couldn't get any worse review wise.

Maybe because that's more representative of the populace at large?

The Verge's Nilay Patel said Face ID "mostly works great," but he noted authentication was inconsistent in certain lighting conditions.

Other than that, how was the play Mrs. Lincoln?
It will be interesting to see what ends up happening there once Nilay talks to Apple. One of the other reviewers had the phone at Disneyland on a clear sunny day and had no issues with Face ID. And many others have been using it as their daily driver and I haven't heard of bright sunlight being an issue. I suspect that he may have a bad unit.

Can bloggers please stop shooting outdoor photos and boasting about the quality. Outdoor photos with lots of sunlight has been good on every phone since 2007 and point and shoots long before that and is no longer representational of the quality of a camera today. If you can shoot in low light without focus issues or noise, then you have a good quality phone camera.

Hey look, I shot a photo outdoors on my phone that looks like every other photo shot on any phone in the last 10 years, but this one is somehow better because I paid $1000 for it!

At that point, differences are very subtle so I agree. I really don't upgrade because of camera differences. It's that screen. If the screen isn't that compelling enough (or have too many app issues) I'll probably return and go with 8 Plus.

This is a photo from the Forbes article, that was taken on Hampstead Heath in London at dusk.

They have had literally less than 24 hours to test out the device. The iphone X is unlike the iPhone 8 in that Face ID will likely require you to adjust your usage habits to some degree in order to get full use out of it. Such change will take time. Maybe days, even weeks.

That's the main issue with all these reviews released by youtubers all vying to be "first". Impressions are very superficial, with not enough time actually spent interacting with said device or even taking the time to just collect and formulate your thoughts.

Lol inventing issues that don't exist + plus mentioning you're not buying one.

Look, its OK that there is a great new iPhone that you're not buying. You don't have to invent issues with it to make yourself feel bettter.
He mentions a very valid point, going for a walk and using your phone with one hand are very common sights in my area, maybe not yours. It’s already a pain in the but if I need to get to the command center one handed, I am leaning toward skipping this generation as well. (Currently on a 7plus)

Interesting that OLED burn-in suddenly becomes this major concern. I don't remember much being said about that as a potential drawback with Samsung or other companies that were previously using OLED.

Except it's widely accepted that, if at all possible, you should really test out your apps on the actual phone before pushing them out. So I don't blame some developers for not being "ready".

Couple of points.
If you go to John Grubers Daring Fireball it's pretty obvious he is upset that HE didn't get an early iPhone X to review LOL
Secondly, does one HAVE to use Face ID to open the phone? If so that means there is no way my wife could use my phone in an emergency assuming my face isn't able to unlock the phone? Or for that matter even for regular use if she needed to borrow my iPhone?

Exactly. I don’t want to see pets, kids, and flowers in a field of green on a bright sunny day for the millionth time. I want to see the low light, evening pictures, pictures where there’s some movement. That’s where iPhone still has some problems, even in the 8 Plus. So I want to see it reviewed in the X.

I do think the X will take some time getting used to and definitely have some quirks. However, I am sure Apple is actively working on improving everything about the UI and execution of certain features. Planning on putting 11.2 on my X on Friday as I am sure they had some bugs.

You still have to use a passcode. The passcode is required after 5 failed unlock attemps, or when you cancel the FaceID prompt. You can just tell her the passcode.

I’m sure you can turn off Face ID like you can turn off TouchID. I assume if she knows your passcode she’ll be able to get in regardless.
