iPhone X iphone X sales not living up to expectations

I’ll never pay a $thousand + for a phone. Not going to happen. The value is simply not there. My last PC that I built was $1000. I even think $600 is high for a phone. I laughed when a decade ago they wanted $500 for the first iphone. Did not buy one until I could get one for about $200 via contract. Imo, Apple is in dangerous territory,

Can someone please fill me in on why people say that Android's notifications are superior?

Are you guys referring to notifications on the lock screen or status bar?

I don't get that argument. I have used Androids for years as work phones when I was still in Cellular sales and always had an iPhone for personal use. The last Android I had before I left sales was the Pixel XL, and to be honest, at least on the lock screen, I like iOS's notifications better. I like how everything is uniform and it does what I want it to do. I don't see Android being any worse or better than iOS. Actually I don't think Android's lock screen notifications look as uniform as iOS if I had to pick something.

There are hundreds of posts out there explaining why android has a much superior notification system. It’s just better and there is no argument to it.

I disagree a flop would be the 5C. I knew this phone being the X would not be the top seller because of the price which is fine because that’s why products have different price points and features.

With that said I do think the era of the thousand dollar smartphone is here to stay. Even the Pixel 2 XL was approaching 900.00 and best believe when Google starts crafting its own chipsets they will have a device that is in the same price point.

As long as there are options for each price point I don’t see an issue here. The only issue i see is folks don’t want to pay for something in a higher price point and to them I say that’s more of a personal problem and not the companies problem.

Sure Huawei and Motorola sell phones but they are at the point where they are happy to just make a profit versus companies like Samsung, Apple and soon to be google where margins are important.

I miss the X a lot, but since I got the 8+ as a gift? I don't have a need for the X anymore and could save significant $ in the process. The innards being the same really helps as well. Just hope Apple doesn't fragment iOS 12 too much since the shifts onto the X were a decent difference with the app launcher, control center, and other gestures.

I liked it too. It reminded me of the old Apple logo as far as the different colors.

In the past I may have piled on and said Android's is flat out superior. Maybe that's not a fair statement from me. @MaskedCarrot has a valid inquiry. Generally, I have observed the notifications to be simpler on iOS, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. If you don't get notifications for everything all the time, the iOS notifications is pretty streamlined and neat. Android has more flexibility and organization, but that may not affect people who are not spammed with notifications. Fair argument, and it's indicative of the overall styles of both OS's, one is elegant in it's simplicity, the other has ultimate flexibility and throws every feature at you. The always visible notification alert is just good no matter what (I think that can be said objectively). While we're at it, it would be nice to take advantage of the OLED efficiency and have an always on portion of the screen too, but that's another topic.

This is true in my case. I turn notifications off for almost everything, so my notifications are extremely simple and neat. However, I can understand the need for folks to have a better-organized notification system when receiving a lot of them throughout the day.

iOS needs ability to group notifications by App and able to collapse the tab of that particular application. I dont know how to explain it but we had that ability of sorts till iOS 10 and then they removed it and why they removed is beyond my understanding.

Contrary to popular belief, the 5C wasn't a flop at all. The 5C took the spot that the 5 would have taken, when the 5S came out. So it was the $550 phone. By most accounts, the 5C sold at a better percentage against the flagship vs. any previous 2nd-tier iPhone. Plus, it was cheaper to manufacture for Apple vs. the 5.

I remember reading articles indicating that the 5C was outselling all other smart phones at the time, except for the iPhone 5S and one of the lower end Galaxy phones. It was outselling the flagship Sammys and everything else.

If this was a flop, then Apple was flopping all the way to the bank (Irish bank, of course )

Interesting - I didn't know that!

I wish they'd bring back the colors & plastic to something lower end again.
I actually prefer the plastic and really enjoy the fun colors.

I'm tired of everything being chrome/shiny/metal and the cold boring array of monolithic colors all the iPhones have.
It's just tired to me at this point and has so little personality.

I know you can get some from cases, but it'd be nice if the phone itself was something more than a black or white slab of glass and aluminum.

I think almost everyone would appreciate it. It has been there in iOS since a long time and then last year they removed it for some weird reason and now the entire notification system is a shift for people who receive a lot of messages and such.

I have had an iPhone every year since the 3g s came out and I would be sad if they continue to push the price so high that everyday people couldn't afford the next upgrade or force them to a monthly contract.. The 5C wasn’t a flop. It had a slow start but then they were everywhere. I did like the colours. I liked the white and the pink. My X looks a bit like a 5C now that I have it in the white silicone case lol

But at the same time, the cost of flagship smartphones go up yearly. $600 used to get you the best on the market at full price. Now, you need $799 minimum to get the cheapest flagship big screen iOS device (64gb 8+ in 2017). Google's cheapest Pixel 2 is $649 at normal rates. The OnePlus 5T is $499 now. The Note 8 started at $930 in the US.

Apple isn't the type of company to make major annual upgrades. If people expect the X to be revamped yearly? It will be a similar body design and few upgraded internals for the next few years. Even upgrading every two years might not yield that much of an upgrade. Since I have the 8+, I wouldn't upgrade my phone until like iPhone 2019 or 2020.

Considering the price, I think the iPhone X is a success. I think the pricing model will turn out to be a great marketing move by Apple, in the long run (...don't say it ). Next year, prices for the X will probably drop by $100-200 and sales will be out of the roof. Rinse and repeat in 2019 when line-up will be X, XS and X2 (or whatever).

This is a long term strategy. The iPhone X has finally managed to create a new "buzz" for the iPhone, unfortunately, part of that was due to it's high price. As it becomes more affordable, it will be the new go-to device for most people.

The X is not testing any waters. Apple is allowed to release a premium iPhone for the luxury consumer segment.

Everyday people, as you put it, have the SE, the 7, and the 8 along with the Plus models to meet their financial needs. The X is allowed to be the Rolex or BMW of the iPhone market. Apple is not alienating anyone. They are expanding their lineup to address different segments of the market and doing it brilliantly.

They have to. They are all alone out there against a competing OS with 100 models and pricepoints to choose from.

The X is a worthy flagship. The 8 is a worthy core. The 7 and SE are worthy entry level offerings. Apple has set the lineup properly.

I agree. And I have already said it before in other threads, the iPhone X is not for everyone not just because of the price point being a factor, likely because of what it has to offer in terms of newer technology. But I think that's why Apple offers the iPhone 6s/7 and a secondary iPhone 8 being announced under the iPhone X this year.

All of these iPhones offer the same operating platform and primarily execute the same functionality, it's just the iPhone X is demonstrating the future with Face ID in a new form factor gesture controls. The user just needs to justify what they can afford, not what they want.
