I'd be very surprised if Apple showcases the next iPhone X with slightly different design. i.e. just reducing those thick side bezels at least. Since I don't think anything about the notch will happen just yet.

From what I've seen in the leaks it just looks identical. It's disappointing that it takes Apple so long and about every 2-3 or even 4 years to put out a slightly different design.

It seems there's some rule that they're not allowed to put out slightly improved designs every year like Samsung does. There always needs to be a "S" version of the previous phone design with Apple.

Change for change sake. If you’ve got a winning design that was widely praised, there’s no need to change it.

I’m not sure why some have the expectation that iPhone should change every single year in form factor. That’s not how the evolution of phones work. If you look at smart phones in general, they generally all look the same, just have some slightly different variations about them with reduced bezels, width/height, etc. The next _major_ form factor for the iPhone will likely be at least three years away.

No one is expecting a design change this year, they just launched the iPhone X in 2017 and that was a complete redesign;

stainless steel and glass versus aluminum
Notch/Face ID vs home button/touch id
Edge to edge oled display vs lcd and bezels.

What were you expecting?

I wouldn’t use Samsung as a pedestal they have had the same design since the s6 in 2015 and have been using them twice a year every year since.

Personally I can’t wait for the iPhone X plus been waiting a year for it.

I am betting that other than exterior color and size, the iPhones will be very similar. No need in doing a lot of change when it is perfect!

You call the current iPhone X design perfect?

I'm really bothered by the large bezels, especially on the side. It looks like a case was put on. And the stainless steel looks outdated. Like a diner restaurant exterior design.

I guess I was expecting a refinement, slimmer bezels, especially on the side as mentioned. And maybe different material as the stainless steel not only looks outdated in my opinion but also easily scratches.

“Large bezels and stainless that reflects a diner restaurant”? Lots of hyperbole. Of all the iPhone threads I visit, I don’t think I have ever read anyone complain the way you have about it. I think the current design is a massive step in the right direction in terms of where the iPhone was with larger bezels with past iPhones and aluminum in exchange for the glass and stainless bands.

The stainless scratching with the bands is a non-issue, you can easily polish those out if you want, let’s remember is also a Phone that is used daily, which will inevitably scratch. Also, they do make the space gray version which has a PVD coating which does help prevent against scratches as well.

Personally I don’t like true edge to edge displays. And I love the stainless steel band. What’s dated to you is classic and timeless to me.

Tim Cook said in the iPhone X reveal that it is the design for the next ten years. So only minor tweaks will be done ie colour of bands, colour of back, smaller notch when technology allows.

It’s the same with apples laptops. They hardly change.

Really? 10 years same design? WTF

You can’t call the design dated if it new, lol.

It’s a new design last time anyone used stainless steel with in a smartphone it was Apple back with the 4 and 4s....but that is a dated design, and the iPhone X looks nothing like the iPhone 4 or 4s, even the stainless steel finish is different.

You were expecting a design refresh after one year. Thats not really realistic.

Bezels are 4 mm. Don’t know why you call them large.

What exactly is it you want? Once the notch is eliminated the phone will basically be a slab with an all-screen front. As will the competing Android flagships. Do you want a faux leather back in a gaudy purple colour, just for the sake of overhaul?

Technology isn’t moving that fast anymore. Mobile devices are maturing in terms of design.

Smaller notch
5G cellular
4GB RAM
128GB Storage
Camera improvement

Is there a 4 year ROI on a new design and OLED manufacturing?

Your expecting the 2018 iPhones to launch with 5g?

Can’t see anyone launching any 5g handsets in 2018.

Are you crazy - Apple has done an all-new iPhone design every year since the iPhone 6. The iPhone 6S was an all-new design because they used 7000 series aluminum. iPhone 7 was an all-new design because of that one jet black finish and a radically redesigned lens cover. And let's not forget the iPhone 8, an all-new ground up design using a glass back to enable wireless charging. This is Apple we're talking about buddy, they have high standards, thanks to the almighty Jony Ive - they can't even dream about putting out anything that isn't an all-new design.

Not saying it might not have slimmer bezels, just saying the overall look of the phone will not change. What bothers one person is not an issue to another. I am glad I am not bothered by things like this.

Bothered is one thing but there are plenty of people willing to spend a grand on what he finds boring and dated.

I don't have an iPhone X so I can't comment on the stainless steel but to me the bezels help frame the display. Other manufacturers kind of hide their bezels by having multiple ridges along the sides. Could they be a tad slimmer on the iPhone X? Sure, but they also help with unwanted touches from the sides. When not using a case I constantly hit the bottom corners of the display with my palm on my Oneplus 3 which has slimmer bezels.

I don't think we will see much difference until they can get rid of the notch. To me by far the biggest issue on the X is the glass back. It's slippery and not the most durable material. All for the sake of wireless charging and being "premium". When I get the next gen X I fully intended to slap a D-Brand skin on it as soon as I can get one just to have some grip.

Jony Ive will keep shrinking and removing physical things that move until he's left with just a thin slab of glass. That's his idea of a perfect iPhone.

The iPhone X design was about as perfect as it gets for a phone. There's literally nothing I can think of that I'd change (although a cheaper price would be nice!). Apple will use the iPhone X as the template for the next several generations of iPhone as it's the right thing to do.

Which is exactly why I didn't buy the iPhone 6S, 7 or 8. (Have an iPhone 6)

The iPhone X is easily the best iPhone yet! I love mine, Face ID works perfectly, it feels like a premium device, the OLED screen is great for watching content, the speakers are great even at high volumes and the camera is also great, I love taking portrait photos with it.

The iPhone X will evolve over time but there really isn’t any need for a new design for a few years yet. The notch will eventually disappear and as someone else pointed out it will become a slab of glass, that’s exactly what Johnny Ive wanted. Short of adding new colours and bigger versions like the Plus size, I can’t see what else you would want.

Absolutely - by then Apple would have mustered the courage to entirely remove all electronics from the device. So it will be just that - a thin slab of glass. *audience goes nuts*

Samsung don’t change their design either

They have had the same design for past 2-3 years...

Apple likely won’t change theirs for another 3 years
