No not radical new design.

Slimmer bezels, maybe smaller notch if possible. But yes especially slimmer bezels. Still looks like there's a case on it.

Samsung hasn't done radical new designs every year but they always improved it a bit even if slightly. Apple just keeps exactly the same chassis for 2-3 or 4 years.

Except they didn’t.

6s - thicker aluminium

7 - amended antenna bands and introduced new finishes as well as removing the headphone jack

8 - switch to glass design to allow wireless charging.

It is likely the notch will lessen in size over successive refreshes, but the fundamental design concept will remain the same.

And the iPhone X was an all new design last year.

The notch and the camera bump doesn't bother me. The only thing I'm hoping for is more durability on the stainless steel portion of the phone.

Technically, they won’t be able anymore durability to the surgical stainless steel, which they did so by adding the PVD coating on stainless steel gray. That’s the nature of stainless (Which I’m assuming is the same steel as 316L Apple Watch), is that it does scratch very easily. Its the drawback to that specific metal in general.

Apple can use 904L stainless steel, similar to the way Rolex does for better scratch and corrosion resistance.

Dang, I was hoping for some kind of coating that I’m unaware exists but does and would add to the durability lol. I’d be ok if they added the same durability coating they put on the space black Apple Watch on the space grey model. Isn’t it stronger than the PVD?

What do you think the upcharge on that would be? Lol

The materials cost would increase by less than $1. The iPhone X only has 58g of stainless steel content.

American sourced 904L costs about $19/kg. 316L costs $7/kg.

You are correct, The DLC (Diamond like) coating on space black Apple Watch is a much harder treatment coating over The Physical vapor coating on the space gray iPhone stainless casing. The DLC coating on the space black Apple Watch is almost impervious to scratches or any type of damage, where as the PVD can still scratch, but it adds a slight layer of protection to the stainless.

Tim Cook said in the iPhone X reveal that it is the design for the next ten years. So only minor tweaks will be done ie colour of bands, colour of back, smaller notch when technology allows.

It’s the same with apples laptops. They hardly change.
I never seen that in the keynote.
