Yay, finally decided it was time to upgrade my 5. Got the new X today and immediately noticed it had a pretty nice scratch on the screen. Everywhere is sold out for 6+ weeks. Sigh, I have the worst luck sometimes.

Glad that is not a spacegray!

I never believed stories like this of Apple products coming with scratches, until it happened to me. Touch Bar MacBook Pro with a scratch deep enough to see through the protective wrapping.

The fact that stuff like this makes it past quality control is seriously concerning.

This is what happens when you force people to get something done right NOW. Quality suffers because all they care about is quantity...not quality.

I have the same thing with mine currently. It’s on the back glass and also a speck of dust under the camera lens. The Apple Store here in Adelaide Australia said it’s not enough to warrant a swap right now with one of there replacement units. They asked for photos, so I sent photos into the store and they haven’t gotten back to me. The biggest issue is.... prior to this I bought an iPhone 8 and 8 Plus to try them out and see which I like more and BOTH had the exact same scratches as my X and what your X is exhibiting. So I went back to the store to have them replaced multiple times and every single one had scratches in the glass except one 4.7” 8. But I then ended up returning that to get the X in the end anyway and I absolutely love the X, it’s an amazing phone but the quality control is absolutely shocking.

The majority of units likely won't have defects such as these on a display. If you think about it, the millions of iPhones Apple produces, how many of them are actually returned for a scratch on the screen or other issues. Likely the majority consumers keep their devices without having any issues at all. But naturally, there will be iPhones and other products that do make it past production With defects or damage.

I’m betting if you walk in to Apple and tell them what’s going on they’ll see you much sooner than two weeks from now. But it seems like you’re happy, or st least once with, just waiting. So that works too.

I noticed a tiny, tiny screen scratch on my iPhone X this morning. Trying to figure out if it's worth the hassle of returning. This shouldn't happen on a brand new device.

Do you guys think this out of the box dent (white spot) applies for a change? What would you do?

(Just beneath the lightning port, aligned with the top (photo) edge of the port)

Then it has a small smudge inside he glass (back) aligned with that small dent. Appeared as cleanable but it wasnt, not entirely.

Mine also came with a dent very similar to yours. Chatted with Apple and was told the only thing I could do was return it and rebuy a new one. Not interested in that headache so I’m just going to live with it. The way I see it, not like the phone is gonna stay in perfect condition during its entire life.

That's odd - did it have to do with available stock that they said that? Because when I bought my MBP in January it had one of those nasty scratches next to the speaker. I walked it back into the store and said I want to exchange it for one that doesn't have the scratch and got a new one. Took it back to my office and opened that one to set it up and immediately noticed an even worse one. Walked it back again, said I want another one and they brought out another one. We looked it over together with a fine tooth comb until I was satisfied it was scratch free.

I feel like they're usually very accommodating with stuff like that.
